Sabitzer is not really a midfielder. He is a second striker or at least he used to be.

I think Shaw did very well at centre back in absence of Martinez. I thought Ten Hag would have deployed Lisandro in midfield during Casemiro’s first red card ban but it didn’t happen, it seems it still won’t happen.

We should also look at Casemiro, is he the right man for next season? He misses 7 games due to suspension…

Come on man. Both of Casemiro's red cards were harsh and wouldn't have been given on a different day by a different ref. As Ten Hag recently pointed out, he never got a red card in over 500 games for Madrid. Let's not pretend that he's a liability.

Yes, that seems like a great idea, let's look at replacing our most important player because he happens to have been sent off twice. The second one being very unfortunate, given how it transpired..

Casemiro never had a red card for Real Madrid, so it's clearly not a discipline issue for him. And even if it was having the best cdm in the world for 30 games is better than having him for none.

The first one was inexcusable really, but the second one was very unfortunate. He also won't need to be making so many tackles once our midfield improves and we can control possession better.

Barca fans say the refs favor Real but I guess they shouldn’t speak too much do they … he he
Anyway both were indeed very harsh but they happened and they are a big reason we are struggling now.

Casemiro's red cards are indeed a big reason why we're struggling now, but let's not throw around daft statements like 'is he the right man for next season?' Of course he is the right man.

Licha found him with the long ball a few times. It was working, and one of our more likelier ways of getting a goal.
You didn’t say the long balls got him the better of Burns. Im not downgrading his performance but Burns stopped him from being a major influence in the game, they spent most of the game battling each other instead of him majorly influencing the game.

Seeing you already mention he got subbed, maybe Ten Hag thought rightly or wrongly he could have done better.

Man Utd 1:0 Brentford
Waking up with the Brentford bettor in his pocket. Brilliant once again.

Some key defensive saves but not his usual outstanding self in possession. I can only remember 1 really good pass fizzed into Shaw

Not getting enough praise tonight.

Nullified the in form Toney. Totally cut off the long out ball they like to play to him via Raya and was relentless when Toney was trying to bring the ball under control which unsettled him.

Superb front foot defending and +90% pass accuracy as standard.

He’s a special player

I saw a bit of the match today and he was won easily by their winger. It's one of those plays where you can see he's tired.

I guess all the WC and travelling is costing him. Also he's in his first season in PL football after all.

On paper the match against Toney is where he would be "totally exposed" if there was any truth to what was said when he first signed, that hes simply too small to play CB in the premier league. In reality he was barely bothered, mostly on top at the back and we were in complete control. If this is what it looks like when he's against the players who will "expose" him, then he actually doesnt have any weaknesses.

Ironically those long punts were the furthest we got into their half. We couldn’t string a pass together in midfield
Comparing the two performances and how it impacted the midfield was my thinking when I said he lost his head. The midfield wasn’t working against Newcastle, instead of coaxing them back into the game. He kept bypassing them and they were never going to recover.
Today he did his job and trusted others to do theirs.

His passing through the lines is so good, love the way he just keeps it low and fires it to feet.

Was class once again.

That was nonsense talk or narrative non United supporting pundits will fabricate. We saw it with Blind when they’ll mention him being dominated and we stopped believing our own eyes.
He will get dominated in a game just like any CB but it won’t be for the reasons they sold us. Defenders get outwitted and that will either be physically or positionally.

A bit meaning none I take it ?

Yeh you'd be better off watching the whole game. Martinez played very well.

He's not good when he's isolated with a quick attacker but he rarely let's himself get into that situation

I couldn't because I was working. I never doubt Licha. I just pointed out that at the end of the game he seemed tired, which is normal of course, for the reasons I mentioned.

To me he's the most consistent performer in the league, let alone United.

Your post was much more vague than that in fairness, but yeh agreed. He's been consistently outstanding.

My favourite player. I get a confidence boost when I see his name on the team sheet. Almost like Roy Keane.
He’s arguably our best midfielder even though he plays at centre back.
If we can sign one or two more at his level we’d be flying.

Part of the reason why I’ve argued previously that Arsenal signing him as left back would have been a mistake. He’s much better at centre half.
