If we give him money, we should also get a couple of years extension on his deal, no?
It’s been a general problem with United to pay high salaries which make players impossible to sell. In this very case it could very well be however that he’s on a low salary and deserves a raise. A bit United though to increase salary for a player who is long term injured. If you aren’t extending his deal (which means a sign on bonus) then this is the logical way to keep him sweet. A couple of millions a year would be trivial when we discuss a renewal in a few years time.
Underpaying one of your best players (who is of a very good age profile) would be more damaging long term for squad building/harmony than just forking out some extra cash. It’s Maguire on 190k, De Gea on 375k and Sancho on however much he’s on that is a drain on our finances, not an extra 30-40k/week on Licha.
???? I love the guy but surely not, i thought we were over this stupidity
Equally most gullible and naive fanbase who would believe anything even if it's coming from garbage sources to shit on Club .The most insecure club on the planet. We throw money at players as if it's confetti
Yeah. And the article is definitely trueThe most insecure club on the planet. We throw money at players as if it's confetti
If his reported £120k wage is true and is going to be upped to £170k then I wouldn't have a problem with it. It's still half of what Varane earns and is still below Maguires wage. He's had an amazing season, but do we really need to throw money like that?
I’m bricked up
Akin to my earlier post about a salary increase, why are we doing this after 1 season?
Because he deserves it?
It will also make it easier to sign players this summer without being screwed out of an insane up front salary. We’ll review your salary in a year. Just like we did with Martinez.

Don't get this at all. A 5-year contract is a 5-year contract!
It's been one season. Yes, he's done very well, but no better than any other player we spent £50m on. I fully expect his contract represents his value based on that transfer fee.
If Real Madrid were genuinely sniffing around, then by all means persuade him to stay with a pay rise. However, who seriously is likely to come in with a transfer bid this summer? Not even his agent could try persuade us that this was true.
Let the player reward his employer with a positive second season and we'll talk about a new contract next summer. An increased wage now would be millions down the drain. Who's to say that he doesn't get another big injury next season and we've just extended the contract of the new Phil Jones?
‘No better than any other player we spent £50 million on…’ Really? Christ, he’s probably been better than several of them while spread out on a hospital bed!Don't get this at all. A 5-year contract is a 5-year contract!

He wasnt being paid as one of our best players because he came in from the Netherlands and may not have adapted as well as he did. Now we want to make sure he feels valued and wants to stay. Would you rather we just sell him this summer or next because another team wants him more than us?
WHO?! Seriously, who is going to to come in for him this summer, especially considering he his injured until pre-season? No one!
What if multiple teams come in for him next summer after a decent season... He'll have another 3 years left on his contract. If he throws his toys out the pram about wanting a move (which will show his true colours), we demand a highly inflated fee of at least £80m and make a profit for once. If a fee can't be agreed, then clearly those clubs (Real Madrid, PSG) don't want him enough and we restore power. He can either sulk in the reserves (unlikely) or accept our then improved contract offer and continue okaying.
Regardless of whether the Glazers continue (**shudder**) or new owners come in, the wage structure at the club needs to be reset. Just because a new signing has a good season as a key player does not mean they should instantly be looking at the salary ladder. We're Manchester United. Despite our current turmoil, there are still only a limited few clubs who could attract our players away with fame and fortune. We offer that in their first contract, so a much bigger wage is all that will appear more attractive. In addition, Real Madrid and PSG both seem to be on paths to rebuild with youth and have financial restrictions of their own, so let's see one of them double Martinez's contract.
He's under contract. Honour the bloody contract (at least for 2-3 seasons).
Did you predict City would sign Akanji?
You have no idea who is interested. But teams were last summer, including us, and he just had a good season in a stronger league so most likely stronger clubs are now interested
100% agree with your post.WHO?! Seriously, who is going to to come in for him this summer, especially considering he his injured until pre-season? No one!

I don't see the relevance of your point. Akanji (a Dortmund player) was always available to the bigger sharks in the transfer market like City. United are linked with virtually every player who may be open to a transfer in the summer. Our interest was never proven. Are you suggesting City may bid for Martinez?
Regardless, once we acquire that player, they are more or less 'banked' until we decide to let them go via transfer or on a free. How many players of worth since Ronaldo can you remember forcing a move away through?
I'm suggesting what I suggested. You have no idea if teams are interested in Lisandro and wont be able to predict every CB that teams go for. The club are a lot more likely to know about interest, and tying him down suggests there was enough to warrant it.
