When the anti-United pundits (you know the ones) try to write him off, it’s always for the same reason, height.

They need to do their homework. He has everything. Could still flop of course but he has all the tools there, and it won’t be down to height

I fecking hate recency bias (like someone asking whether Mbappe is the best-ever French player ffs),

But I can't help thinking that he's one of the most instantly-likable players we've ever had.

Can't imagine a single United fan that's not in awe of him.
Oh sweet child. Don’t be so foolish. Just have a read through some recent pages on this thread and you’ll see there are some who still doubt him.

Didnt know him like other at Ajax, but said weeks ago, he is the best signing we have made post Ferguson and should be made captain next season.

A lot of people wrote Argentina off after the first couple of games, but they have possibly the two best centre backs in the trounament for me, Romero is also fantastic, that should be there partnership and they also have Enzo Fernandez and Alvaraez breakign through (never been impressed by Latauro Martinez).

He appears to have built an instant rapport with several players not just us fans, that tackle and his fist pump is probably my favourite moment so far in this world cup, such a good player, liek others, love him and havent been able to say that about one of our players for a long time, shame Caesemeiro is 30 as he also looks a top signing

most defenders would stay with their man and ball watch.

Martinez smells the danger and makes the decision so quickly. amazing play

Superb again. I would go 3-5-2 just to put him in the starting lineup. Do it Scaloni madafukka

I didn't know him either and I'll be the first to admit I thought his height might be an issue in the PL, against certain teams that still might be problematic.

He reminds me of Bryan Robson, he has the same passion and the never say die attitude of "you ain't fecking getting past me sunshine" and for that reason alone he will be a firm favourite.

Such a player. If only Ream sensed the danger in the US game for the first goal.

Incredible tackle. Saved Argentina and Otamendi from embarrassment. Love the guy. Puts everything on the line whether he's starting or not.

I mean even David Moyes knows a good defender when he sees one. But this manager, Lionel Scallops or whatever doesn't seem to realize it.
Scaloni has always been a bit of a dimwit right from his Deportivo days it was evident.

You just love to watch him defend. Awareness, anticipation, intelligence, aggression and intensity. One of the players that can help people appreciate the defensive aspect of the game more. He saved Scaloni's skin with that tackle.

Not only did he make the monster block, but I’m pretty sure he was out jumping Harry Souttar(?) on defensive corners, who’s about a foot taller than him

Another very good cameo. Also loved how he at the end tjere first twatted that Soutar giant in the air, before already being on the goal line when Tagliafico rolled over to let Kuon through. He’s just so very quick in his proaction.

One of the most important player for Argentina. Nevermind the goal saving tackle, the moment he came on, you can see Argentina as a team played a lot better and had more control.

So I'm just gonna ask the question anyway...is he better at CB or DM? Is there a future at DM for him?

My heroe. If he can have half the career here minus the injuries , we are lucky.

I went for the more obvious one as a defender and Argentinian. Reminds me of Heinze who I thought was really good here too

Souness is the worst pundit for knocking Lisandro because of his height. He should remember Colin Todd who was also just 5' 9" and played for England. He was a great CB who played for Derby County and England in the 70s.

I think we might have just gone and signed one of the best central defenders in world football. And we’ve done it early before he springboards into something amazing.

Too much gets made of the captaincy, but he’s going to be in the picture for this in the future.

I couldn’t make out if it was Martinez out jumping the Aussie giant twice in the last minute- or was it Otamendi? Epic headers!

I did not expect him to be that good when he came in personally. I trusted though ETH's plan for him.

Turns out him being smaller doesnt necessarily mean he will get bullied by bigger players. If anything he's always the quickest to spot danger so height advantages doesnt really mean anything since he reaches the ball first. Its like when you are playing Roblox PvP against kids, sure you have more knowledge and tactics but the kids have faster reaction time (< 100 ms) and can easily run circles around you. At that point you being older means feck all.
