OkRonaldo is my GOAT.
OkRonaldo is my GOAT.
Yeah clearly. Kind of proves Messi 100% right about Bartomeau really, he's just saving face, knows he's on the way out, and doesn't care about the club.Barto doesn't want to be the president who sold Messi.
It's an ego thing.
He was elected democratically to his post. I guess its kind of like someone in government calling Boris a knob. It's not too difficult to see why he wanted to leave. But the crazy part is calling out Bartomeu in public like that. In what world can an employee talk shite about his boss publicly and still keep his job?
In October of last year, he did an interview saying that in recent years they had always had a winning project, and that in the last two years it had been their fault (of the players) and not the project.
And in February of this year he said that he had never thought of leaving Barcelona, and that if the club wanted to, he would continue.
Reasonable, things that are said to the press, but contradictions after all. He didn't seem so unhappy those days.
I think it was just someone running for the Barcelona president election. Still a clown himself.Wasn’t it a Barcelona executive who recently said that Manchester United has become a joke of a football club? Around 2 or 3 months ago?

And so so so much better at his jobIn a world where said employee is far more important to the enterprise than the boss.
You're a good poster @Daysleeper
Do you think Messi now retires at Barca? Assuing Laporta wins and Xavi/Puyol get involved with the team management, can they not do the right things once again? Or is it too far gone at this point?
You are missing the point. A man who is serious to leave (especially for a contract that allows him to walk) gets his legal team into action much earlier to go through his contract and stuff and decide when to put in the official transfer request. And the legal team advises as to how to deal with things if the board is hostile. I mean that's what they are paid for. I don't think if the legal team had looked into the Jun 10, they would have just assumed that it meant end of Covid season. They would've at least sought an official clarification.
And on top of that Messi thought so low of Bartemou (by end of last season itself), that it makes sense he put everything on paper rather than Bartemou "told me so at the coffee machine".
Besides what is this under wraps thing. An official transfer request is ideally supposed to be a conversation between the player's representatives and the board. It is not his job to worry about how confidential documents are handled by the club.

As in every Club, it's the manager that mostly do the signings. Is it different in Barca, that the President identified these signings? or does Messi want the CLub to consult with him, which players to sign beforehand?
I'm still not convinced he'll leave. This is the guy who's announced his retirement from international football at least a couple of times, only to backtrack once things behind the scenes are settled to his liking.
Koeman saying Messi doesn't have privileges means little. If I was the best footballer in the world, I'd back myself to be able to make a better contribution the team's chances with myself in it than whatever Ronald Koeman could muster up without me.
Threatening to leave puts the current president's and board's chances of being relected next year in serious jeopardy. Besides, he can still leave next year if the board by some miracle manage to get relected. Hell, maybe Koeman would be gone by then.
He's won league titles and Copa Del Reys in the last 2 years, it's not really enough to count as trudging through the football wilderness. So yeah, it's 5 since he won the Champions League but that's an incredibly difficult achievement. He shouldn't expect to win it easily. Just look at PSG and City, for all their millions. And those are 2 of the clubs he's been linked with to give him a better chance of European glory.
I get him not being happy at Barca anymore and that's reason in itself but suggesting they're not really competitive is pure bollox when you look at almost every other club.
Does setien keep his job if he wins the league or copa del rey? They have repeatedly suffered absolutely horrendous exits in CL especially for last 3 years. Watching them has been like watching a messi+10 team , if he doesn't turn up, no one else does either. I read a stat a while ago that said Own goals was the 2nd highest scorer for barca after messi in CL for last 2-3 years.Ah, the last 4-5 years, where he's "only" won La Liga in 14-15, 15-16, 17-18 and 18-19, copa del rey in 14-15, 15-16, 16-17 and 17-18.
Proper fecking wasted the prime of his career hasn't he.

Then why would he join them? To win domestic titles? He's got more than enough of them. Apparently he told Guardiola he wants anotger two Balon D'Ors and it's quite obvious which kind of titles are required for that.
I don’t know if this video has been shared anywhere already but I’m in hysterics Incredible stuff.
You called it for all the wrong reasons. Messi retiring from Argentina (without Missing any games) in the heat of the moment is far different than this. He’s been wanting to leave all season long and told the board multiple times. To say you weren’t convinced he’ll leave like Messi was bluffing is a bit facetious. He genuinely was leaving, I mean legally putting in the fax was as serious as it gets. He just couldn’t take it to court on top of Barca completely refusing to negotiate. This has nothing to do with an emotional response, he’s had a lot of time to think about it. He himself felt pretty convinced he was going to be able to leave. Just that the insane board refused to negotiate in good faith
Messi has such a ridiculously weak mentality.
Yes, that's why he's had such a poor career. This thread is a hilarious read.Messi has such a ridiculously weak mentality.
The Catalan Ben Shapiro.this was a brilliant find! When he went off on Matteo I died of laughter hahaha
Whose his best friend?I think the 8-2 result plus the decision to transfer list his best friend were the main catalysts in his decision.
Not really. You said he’s staying but none of your stated reasons are the reason.I called it.
His stance in the interview that he wants to step aside for youth at barca and New ideas etc doesn't add up when he wants to go for free. If he wanted to leave barca on a good note then he should at least get them 200 million not use some clause on contract and jump for free.
He has gone down few levels imo, he will suffer loss of love from Barca fans imo
Not really. You said he staying but non of your stated reasons.
You’re making it out like it’s his choice to stay or he has had a change of heart. He has no choice in the matter. Not so billy big bollox after all
Whose his best friend?
Reports going round saying that Messi told Pep that he was the only manager of a project that ‘could help his ambition of winning Balon Dor two more times’.Did he? I only heard he wanted to win another UCL, never heard anything about ballon dors.
He was elected democratically to his post. I guess its kind of like someone in government calling Boris a knob.

Man I wish I'm Messi sometimes! In a world where the employee knows the employee is right. Barto is facing corruption charges right now.
Man I wish I'm Messi sometimes!
Looks like he will have to push hard to get a move, with Barcelona (and La Liga) digging in their heels.
Wonder if we'll see a public statement where he says what is obviously the truth: He doesn't want to play for Barcelona anymore because they're run by clowns, aren't competitive to win the CL and probably won't be for several years.
They can hold him to his contract if they really want to, he can do a Bale and just turn up for training so they have to pay him for doing nothing then leave for free at the end of the season. Question is if Barcelona are prepared to let him rot for a year and lose £150m in wages and transfer fee or not ? Or if Messi cracks if that is the only option on the table ?
Clearly the whole league suffers without Messi star power and the premier league will benefit, harder to get a good price for the La Liga TV rights, especially in present circumstances. That must be why we've got them already refusing to accept he can leave for free.
Wow, I don’t get why people post stuff like this. For the hundredth time he never wanted to leave on a free. He talked to them all year about leaving. City would’ve made a bid of around 100-150M. The board refused to sell for anything less then 700M. Messi was in the right.
Expected outcome. Messi likes attention and he likes to flex his muscle. Barca think they are more than a club and he thinks he’s more than them.
Tough spot for Barca because Messi is obviously not great for the club in the sense that he calls a lot of shots he’s not qualified to call and on the pitch isn’t a leader and off it has come across as a weasel but he’s obviously an incredible player. Perhaps both club and player are holding each other back at this point but you don’t let a player of Messi’s caliber go so they ride it out sort of like Kobe’s last few year’s at the Lakers.
Watch Barca not compete for years in UCL and Madrid sweep up a bunch of Liga titles but hey Messi got paid and got some attention.
