By the way, I wonder if this will affect his Barca legendary state as he asked and wanted to leave, the same way people here keep saying Rooney's legendary state was affected by the fact he asked to leave twice?
Yeah clearly. Kind of proves Messi 100% right about Bartomeau really, he's just saving face, knows he's on the way out, and doesn't care about the club.
It's not too difficult to see why he wanted to leave. But the crazy part is calling out Bartomeu in public like that. In what world can an employee talk shite about his boss publicly and still keep his job?

Thanks buddy! That’s a great question. I know Messi wanted Xavi to take over when Setien was let go, and I imagine Xavi will be here sooner than later. New elections are in March, so I imagine Laporta will have a couple months to convince Messi of the sporting project moving forward. It’ll be tough though because if Barca look like they’re nowhere close to being even CL semi-finalists I could see him wanting to do a year or two at City. He just looks so miserable right now. I hope Koeman can do something, we needed a no nonsense manager. We also have such a tough opening group of fixtures to start the season that I could see tempers flaring if Barca come out of the gates slow.
I hope Messi stays, but if he only has 2-3 years left I don’t know if he’ll stick around for a rebuild. Just not enough time. In his interview today he even said its time for the team to move on from him, his time was over, so the youth can play. Pretty telling, but maybe he’ll feel better in a few months if the season becomes a pleasant surprise.

You inform the head of the organisation, and make sure it creates the least impact on everyone around. In the context of a football club, the best way to do this is after the season is over. It's not an ideal world where sending a transfer request would stay between Messi and the board. It would derail the end of season and he would be blamed for putting the club in crisis when they were chasing 2 trophies. The 8-2 would have been all about him having betrayed the team.
On the lawyers point, if you see the video he still feels the contract can he interpreted as end of season. He can go to court against Barca to enforce his rights. But, he does not want to be in court against Barca as that was never his intention. He will play another year and then leave on a free.

messi has no say on the signings contrary to popular belief. He didn’t care for bringing over griezmann, coutinho or dembele. The only time he pressured the board was to try and bring back neymar.

for Barca standards they’ve know had 3 straight seasons in CL with some of the most humiliating losses inn European history. The issue isn’t just losing. It’s like Messi said himself, it’s about being competitive. And it’s always a one man show where Barca has multiple CL seasons where Own Goal was the second leading scorer. He’s absolutely right.
Does setien keep his job if he wins the league or copa del rey? They have repeatedly suffered absolutely horrendous exits in CL especially for last 3 years. Watching them has been like watching a messi+10 team , if he doesn't turn up, no one else does either. I read a stat a while ago that said Own goals was the 2nd highest scorer for barca after messi in CL for last 2-3 years.

You called it for all the wrong reasons. Messi retiring from Argentina (without Missing any games) in the heat of the moment is far different than this. He’s been wanting to leave all season long and told the board multiple times. To say you weren’t convinced he’ll leave like Messi was bluffing is a bit facetious. He genuinely was leaving, I mean legally putting in the fax was as serious as it gets. He just couldn’t take it to court on top of Barca completely refusing to negotiate. This has nothing to do with an emotional response, he’s had a lot of time to think about it. He himself felt pretty convinced he was going to be able to leave. Just that the insane board refused to negotiate in good faith

His stance in the interview that he wants to step aside for youth at barca and New ideas etc doesn't add up when he wants to go for free. If he wanted to leave barca on a good note then he should at least get them 200 million not use some clause on contract and jump for free.

Wow, I don’t get why people post stuff like this. For the hundredth time he never wanted to leave on a free. He talked to them all year about leaving. City would’ve made a bid of around 100-150M. The board refused to sell for anything less then 700M. Messi was in the right.

Expected outcome. Messi likes attention and he likes to flex his muscle. Barca think they are more than a club and he thinks he’s more than them.
Tough spot for Barca because Messi is obviously not great for the club in the sense that he calls a lot of shots he’s not qualified to call and on the pitch isn’t a leader and off it has come across as a weasel but he’s obviously an incredible player. Perhaps both club and player are holding each other back at this point but you don’t let a player of Messi’s caliber go so they ride it out sort of like Kobe’s last few year’s at the Lakers.
Watch Barca not compete for years in UCL and Madrid sweep up a bunch of Liga titles but hey Messi got paid and got some attention.
