What a disrespect from Bartomeu.
No, in most clubs the manager does not make the signings. In fact, in many clubs, the manager has no say at all on the signings. As in every Club, it's the manager that mostly do the signings. Is it different in Barca, that the President identified these signings? or does Messi want the CLub to consult with him, which players to sign beforehand?
What to expect from an user with that kind of name.

He can already talk to other clubs in January. This seems mad from Barcelona. They sell him now and they can get him off the wage bill and get at least 200mil from him. Wait another year and he goes for free. Seems terrible management to me, a massive missed opportunity to cash in and start over.

yeah, paying his wages for another season while the stadiums are empty. Im not sure if he will be coming to the prem at 34, feels like it was now or neverThis seems mad from Barcelona. Yeah, in most clubs (actually not only in football but also other sports like basketball, American football etc), the manager has little to no say in signing. They are done by a general manager, some board or in football director of football. EPL is almost unique in that aspect when the managers had almost full power on transfers.I mean, identified the signings. So in many clubs, the manager has no say on signings? Hmm.. that's new to me.
If I was a Barcelona fan I'd want him to sell Messi. Ok his ego doesnt want to be known 'as the president who sold the greatest player in Messi' but yeah how simplistic. Isn't it a better decision that instead of bburying head in sand for one season with an unhappy player! Barcelona could net a 120m + now instead of one season of Messi.Barto doesn't want to be the president who sold Messi.
It's an ego thing.
Giggs wasn't flashing his legs at other clubs like Messi does every couple of seasons.
You are missing the point. A man who is serious to leave (especially for a contract that allows him to walk) gets his legal team into action much earlier to go through his contract and stuff and decide when to put in the official transfer request. And the legal team advises as to how to deal with things if the board is hostile. I mean that's what they are paid for. I don't think if the legal team had looked into the Jun 10, they would have just assumed that it meant end of Covid season. They would've at least sought an official clarification. When you are a legend at a club, you do the right thing by not declaring your intention to leave midseason. He has to keep it under wraps.
He was being a leader, not naive.
How did he think he would “get out” his contract? He must be the most expensive sportsman of all timeHe never wanted to leave for free, he just wanted to get out of his contract. He's not shocked at all, he's been asking to leave all season.
He's won league titles and Copa Del Reys in the last 2 years, it's not really enough to count as trudging through the football wilderness. So yeah, it's 5 since he won the Champions League but that's an incredibly difficult achievement. He shouldn't expect to win it easily. Just look at PSG and City, for all their millions. And those are 2 of the clubs he's been linked with to give him a better chance of European glory. Why is Messi getting shit for this? If he finds the board incompetent and don't believe that Barcelona will win a major trophy for many years, then it makes perfect sense to leave now.
Terrible management by Barcelona.
I get him not being happy at Barca anymore and that's reason in itself but suggesting they're not really competitive is pure bollox when you look at almost every other club.

Definitely a complete drama queen. The player and the club deserve each other for their twatish behaviours over the years.Guy comes across as a cnut. Horrible self absorbed individual.
To summarize: it's a complete and utter shitshow. There are certain contradictions in Messi´s statemens for months ago and what he has said in the interview.
The Barcelona press goes completely against Bartomeu, without any hint of criticism of Messi. As we say here, "they piss in their faces and they say it's raining."
The Madrid press agrees on the general ridicule, on Messi's failed plan, and some say that City have let him down, since in the end perhaps they weren't completely serious.
Now come fun weeks and months. We will see if Koeman manages to impose his authority and Messi's attitude, and then the elections.
Bartomeu is a disaster but the rest of the candidates also have their lights and shadows.
Font for example, did not hesitate to say that Koeman would not continue, even winning the league and the Champions League, since his bet is Xavi
His children found out last minute. Not his wife.So Messi was informing Bartomeu about leaving for a year but he told his wife at last minute? "Honey, I have a surprise for you. Let's move to rainy Manchester!"
Definitely a complete drama queen. The player and the club deserve each other for their twatish behaviours over the years.
also hilarious that he wasted so much time and emotion at City and all their fans
I’m astounded by that statement.
This is a player that has become bigger than a club.
Amazing historical stuff.
Colossal attention whore.
If he wanted to leave all season, why didnt he inform the club before the deadline?
Has done the same before.. more than once.. even with his national side.
Is there any actual evidence that particular deadline was extended?Yeah.. something saying the deadline to terminate his contract was being extended from june because of Covid and the season still going on.
Buddy, he didn't back down due to his fear of the EPL. Did you read his interview? A lawsuit with Barca would be messy and heartbreaking. His clause says "June 10, at season's end". His team argues for "season's end" wording, while Barca hold stiff on the exact wording of June 10. Messi could obtain a certificate to leave for city while it goes to court but if he loses then city would have to pay 700M. Messi can now leave for free after the season. Barca screwed up royally.
The state of their squad, this soap opera going on all points to a really bad season for them.I really hope Barca have a terrible start to the season. I am going to enjoy every minute of this soap opera!
Tbh I think Barca should be milking a rich club for as much as they can for him. It seems like he is a much part of the problems at that club as the people running it.
Get a massive fee for a problem player and use that money to aid a rebuild and a fresh start.

In October of last year, he did an interview saying that in recent years they had always had a winning project, and that in the last two years it had been their fault (of the players) and not the project.Such as?
I think the 8-2 result plus the decision to transfer list his best friend were the main catalysts in his decision. In October of last year, he did an interview saying that in recent years they had always had a winning project, and that in the last two years it had been their fault (of the players) and not the project.
And in February of this year he said that he had never thought of leaving Barcelona, and that if the club wanted to, he would continue.
Reasonable, things that are said to the press, but contradictions after all. He didn't seem so unhappy those days.
