Lionel Messi

When he's gone, we'll have to change everything. Rethink transfer strategy, redefine our approach to the game, make some heavy transfers to compensate for the loss of the GOAT, and basically learn to do it as a team again. We'll have to sign several world beaters who will combined, hopefully, in the right system and with the right manager, be able to create something comparable to this. It will be a major shift for the whole club on all fronts.

Always said there was a clear gap between and every other player playing in the same era as him

He can go a whole game without scoring and will still put in top performances it's not about the goals but it's the way he gets them

Does things other players couldn't even dream of

I'm getting kinda bored with his Barcelona goals. Not undervaluing his accomplishments in La Liga, but i'd love to see him take on a new challenge. Maybe go to Napoli and try to make them Serie A champs, or go to EPL. It would be really cool to see him in some other situation, just as a spectator.

Nah, Messi's big "challenge" after leaving Barcelona (as a 33-35 yo?) is to win the Argentine Primera División with Newell's Old Boys. That would be the closest to become a "legend" for most argentinians (that means his detractors)

No, actually this one

As good as he is, let's not forget that he's never actually proven that he can do it on a cold, wet Wednesday night in Stoke.
Which is fairly unlikely to happen now, as they're in the Championship! Maybe Bristol City could sign him to help their push for the play-offs.

I only know the level of play based on this years Boca - River game. Seems doable, if he has some decent players joining him. What do you think?

It's easily doable, Ronaldinho won it while being hung over for all matches and barely practicing.

That's why I'd like to see him try to repeat Maradona @ Napoli, he can still go back to Argentina at age 38 and dominate.

You really do run out of words to describe just how good he is at times. Football will be just a little bit darker the day he hangs up his boots.

His next challenge should be to come to United and win us the league....

It’s almost boring to talk about how good he is!

True. It's a difficult proposition to compare across generations, leagues and positions.

He's the greatest of his generation in my opinion.

I don't understand why that's not enough for people to say .

Otherwise you just come off like your 4 years old and don't get people existed before you

Because many people genuinely believe he is the best player of all time. That doesn't mean they are four years old.

But I agree that it is a difficult claim to substantiate across generations.

were those fans bowing down to him after the 2nd goal?:D it's the only thing you can do at this moment. There's no more words.

"In this world, maybe we would have won this game. But there's a player from another planet who didn't want it that way. Proud of our team. Go son Sevilla"

Simply can't say greatest of all time

Football is not like sports like sprinting or other athletic sports, where it's great straightforward who the best of all time is. Since it's a team sport it's difficult to say who the best of all time is, but Messi certainly stands head and shoulder above almost everyone else when it comes productivity. His only shortcoming is that he's never had a WC where he was truly the stand out player. In the world cup where he won best player I thought there for a few better than him, like Robben for instance.

Questioning him doing it only in Barca is like questioning SAF for doing it only with us .

Messi is a cut above - there have been many which have been applauded by the fans , but there is only him which the fans don't applaud if he doesn't hit 50 in a year .

Thank you for showing us your talent in the past more than a decade .

A fragment of football will die when he retires. I struggle to imagine anyone else like him gracing the game again.

He's set such an unbelievable standard for himself over the past decade that people have been desensitized to the outrageous things he does every week.
