When Messi wins the Ballon d'Or this year, watch Ronaldo propel himself to ridiculous heights due to his insatiable desire to be the best.

It seems each year he's working on a different facet of his game. When he interlocks them all together - look out world - you'll be witnessing the greatest player to ever play football.

More or less. There was no attempt to play the ball and a clear concentration on kicking his achilles. I'd have sent three of them off.

Everyone's is so overprotective, United gave people like Reyes a similar ride. Nothing brutal, some delibrate fouls. Thats where it ends. It was given so much talking time because it was Messi, nothing more.

Nevertheless, had our Ronaldo played at Barca, they wouldn't have given him nuff to time practice his pyrotechiques with set pieces , never mind continuing it even though he isnt that good.

Thats silly mate. Ronaldo is the best player at almost everything in attack for us, so he's going to take freekicks because he's better than the others at it. Messi is taking freekicks for Barca, even though he never scored one. It could be all down to both of them scoring them in training, and in Ronaldo's case he has scored/made a lot of goals from freekicks.

This whole Barca are strict and wouldn't let Ronaldo do things like United let him is the biggest load of shit I've seen. If a player will get you that much goals and assists and win you so many matches on his own, let him play. He has no special rights at United mind you. Its just him being so quality off the ball that it looks he's given such a free role.

The only comparison with Reyes was the team approach like the old Leeds the tackles weren't anywhere near as vicious as those on Messi.

Laugh all you like, I've been watching football, and United, for 30 years now and I haven't seen anyone play a season like Ronaldo did last year. And he was only 22-23.

Some people feel the need to get all nostalgic and over exaggerate just how good some of the players of the past really were.

I respect your view you know,it's just too funny though.

I have. Been watching the little Argentine all season.

I don't see what's so funny about it? It's not like he isn't capable - he proved as much last season, at such a young age. It's frightening how good he can actually he be. His only perceived weakness was his decision making, which we have seen a huge improvement in this season.

Like I said earlier, when he matures and is able to interlock all of his abilities together, we will be seeing something very special. What I think is imperative, though, is that he stays where he is. There is no better place for his to fully blossom than here.

He could get injured, so could anyone. Does him getting injured make him a lesser player when he is fit? nope.

Ronaldo is better at free kicks, heading and staying fit.

When did Ronaldo actually start scoring free kicks? after his 100th attempt and at the age of 23 really. In two years time Messi could very well be a fine free kick taker. Ronaldo is 24, Messi is 21.

Actually, you'd find the first ever goal Ronaldo scored for United was a freekick. But let's not facts get in the way of cheap digs at Ronaldo... :wenger:

No it wasn't. It was a cross shot from the left wing that missed everyone and ended up in the far corner. Was against Pompey if i'm not mistaken.

YOu really don't understand. Ronaldo is a brilliant player, a player who has improved himself so much from when he was younger. Every year he seemed to take new steps in development but you have to realize that there comes a limit. I'm not saying Ronaldo has fulfilled his potential completely only that he is getting close. It becomes impossible for a player like Ronaldo to keep making such leaps in progression.

Messi is a completely different prospect, there were never question marks over his final ball, over his team play or any other aspect of his game. He is as natural a footballer as you will find and at 21 has already shown more ability and a higher level of performance than anyone else around. You can ignore this, you're quite good at ignoring truths but i think you'll feel a bit silly in the coming years.

What you seem to be doing is assuming that Messi will fulfill his potential, I'm just not making that assumption.

Most people seem to rate fat Ronaldo very highly due to that talent he had, but for me, he goes into the category of never quite fulfilling that promise (even though he's done very well), Messi could be the same. At this moment, Messi has half a good season to show for all his talent, he could go on to emulate Maradona, but at the same time he could suffer injury after injury and never fulfill that promise.

You go on and on about how he's done so brilliantly this season, but without having got into the knockout stage of the Champions League, his season could end up just as another one who dominated a league campaign and nothing else. Henry dominated the Premiership back in 03/04, but what sets Ronaldo 07/08 and Ronaldinho 04/05 apart, is the fact they maintained their form into the big big games in the Champions League. Ronaldo had a good case in 06/07, but the fact is Kaka dominated the big games when they mattered most... it remains to be seen if Messi can produce at the highest level - the latter stages of the CL.

Reyes got roughed up and clattered, harshly but it seemed less callous and calculated, Madrid went to work on Messi with total disregard for his safety. If Titus Bramble was getting that treatment I still would object to it.

Of course the prem is generally tougher week in week out (which makes the fouls and refereeing of the Madrid game even more suprising) and noone knows how Messi would hold up.

You also can't ignore that Ronaldo is currently the best footballer in the world and by definition better than Messi.

I'd welcome Messi to United but you wouldn't swap the two unless a large amount of dosh went United's way at the same time.

Hm, I wonder how many people would say the same thing.

Would anyone here just take a straight swap, no money involved, for Messi and Ronaldo?

No, would much rather keep Ronaldo, he's already proven he has what it takes to blow away to competition in the Premiership. Messi might cry to mommy like Reyes did.

i totally agree with the first sentence

but to say "cry to mommy like Reyes did" is to minimise the cheating tactic of fouling a player as a method

Have you had a plastic bag over your head this season?

No. Have you have forgotten last season already?

Ronaldo outshone Messi by an order of magnitude last season and is about on a par so far this season. This season can be judged at the end of the season as per usual.

Not unless you were a retard or a CM muppet.

Messi is a very good player with potential to get better. Ronaldo is a very very good player who has realised his potential.

I'd like to think I'm neither, and I'd give it some thought.

You'll find very few people agreeing that Ronaldo's a better player.

People might get carded for it, but doesn't mean it's not an effective strategy.

I think Ronaldo is the better player, have been going on and on about it for the last 20 pages.

Are you trying to claim that Ronaldo's performances this season have been as good as Messi's?

How about this lot then

Best player in the world as voted by football fans & everyone else in football!

How you rate Messi higher than Ronnie is beyond me. Ronnie's the most complete forward player i have ever seen & that is echo'd by millions aswell!
