Has anyone actually seen Messi sweat in games? He just seems to get through them effortlessly. By the way he is on 299 goals for Barcelona. And he is only 25.

The adoration for Tendulkar is ridiculous, I don't think people are nuts about Messi in the way some cricket fans are for Sachin. In sheer numbers, Messi will surpass if he hasn't already the number of fans that Tendulkar has due to being the best player of the most popular sport in the world and dare I say it putting himself in the top 3 of all time bracket.. but Tendulkar is seen as a god in India.

Me personally I've seen more Cristiano Ronaldo fanatics than Messi fanatics, it's not necessarily about how good the player is but more about the style/charisma i.e. there's not anyone on this forum who could wank off harder for Messi than say what Cal? does for Cristiano.

The hell?!

Thing is for all Messi's greatness, Ronaldo is still arguably the more marketable player. Regardless really where you go in the world, it's the young kids that want to be and look like Ronaldo more than they want to be Messi. The boots, the hair etc, he's effectively built an image for young footballers everywhere. It could also be that Ronaldo's skill set is slightly more attainable. It is one that alot of people can replicate at their own level where as Messi's dribbling etc is alot harder to try and show.

Attainability is a good point. Look at Bale, attempting to replicate Ronaldo in every way. No one can or will replicate Messi, once in a lifetime player.

I don't believe this at all

That would be simply because of the fact that more people and countries are follow football than cricket.

However, if you take the percentage of the support that goes to the likes of Sachin and Bradman, I think it would be more than Messi simply because there are still a group out there (read Cal?) who don't accept him in the same bracket as Maradona or Pele while Sachin is widely accepted in the bracket of the best of all time. Moreover, Sachin also has plenty of all time records to his name.

The fact that people kill themselves for Sachin is shameful, but that is India for you. This man has carried a sport that is religion in the country for the last 20 years and has had the burden of over a billion hopes on him, and people give it back in the way of their unconditional support, which tends to make them go to insane lengths at times. This is a sport for which offices and schools were shut down, when India was playing Pakistan in the World Cup semi final in 2011, and that really shows the support at every level.

This, and I'm glad I don't have to agree with your copy pasted PMs anymore. Welcome to the mains.

Not sure about that. When I was a kid everyone wanted to be Brazilian Ronaldo. I don't remember any of my mates saying they'd rather be Peter Beardsley because it was more attainable!

It's obvious that a young Lionel Messi was inspired by Beardsley

Another day, another 2 goals.

To put Messi's scoring feats into perspective: he's currently "only" 8th on the all-time top scorer list in La Liga, but already 2nd in amount of away goals (5 behind Hugo Sánchez).

He should have scored a hat trick but it wasn't meant to be. His finishing was actually poor and twice he didn't receive a pass for a simple tap in either that would have gotten him that third. I reckon he's not super happy with himself. Barcelona happy that they got the three points but they made it unnecessarily hard for themselves today.

Messi's already won it all at Barcelona multiple times.

You would think that as time goes on, his enthusiasm will start to wear thinner and thinner over there.

Bit like the Celtic players, they all end up getting bored eventually.

Or like Ryan Giggs?

Giggs said it's not really winning that keeps the drive high, it's hating the feeling that comes with losing.

I doubt you can ever really get fed up with winning things.

Wouldn't that mean we all our fans would sooner or later stop supporting United because they were fed up with the club winning so much?

If anything I guess you would want to have that feeling again.

One of the worst performances I've seen of him.
Kind of reminded me of one of the knockout rounds last year where he walked around deep in midfield for a good 25-30 minutes not wanting to get involved.

Not really sure what to make of that to be honest.

Aye it was off game for sure. This doesn't happen often though, I guess he cant be at the top of his game every single week.

Milan roughed him up a bit, everytime he looked dangerous he just got surrounded and slide challenged.

It's games like this (2 - 0 vs Milan) that will be cited by those making a case against him being the best player ever. While I have no opinion either way, I also can't imagine Maradona, Ronaldinho or Zidane would have been as anonymous in such circumstances.

That said, only Iniesta showed up for Barca anyway.

they've been anonymous in tens of matches or more..people are clutching at straws

Milan's midfield worked their absolute bollocks off to crowd him every time he got the ball. Not once was he allowed to turn and run at them.

That's crap. Zidane and Ronaldinhio most definitely had plenty of off days, even in big games.
