how can you say something like that?
Yes, but you should not play the best player of all time in a stupid meaningless match, especially when that player usually plays 60+ games in a year. If you do that you're asking for trouble.
I was wondering if you're worth replying to, so I checked your posts in this thread, and I found a lot of brilliant posts.. On the top of the pack is this:
Nevermind.
is it not obvious? I am simply making fun at the stupidity of some fans who just dislike Messi.
The devil smiley not give it away?
When was that written? Hopefully for his sanity, it wasn't after 2007-08 or something like that. Though there's something about his profile that tells me this isn't the case.
I'm not so sure about that.
If Messi wants to beat that record, and they felt there was a good chance he could score in that game, then he had to play a little. I can't see anyone wanting to gamble with Messi's motivation. It's more beneficial to Barcelona to keep him motivated and happy in the long run. Risk vs reward and all that.
It may seem an odd way to think but he's that special.
Also, the score was 0-0 and Benfica should have been 2-3 goals up by that point. Barca was struggling. Made sense to put on Messi. Nou Camp isn't used to not winning and despite it being a meaningless match I don't think none of the players or manager wanted to lose this. Wouldn't be surprised that Messi wanted to come on for that reason.
2010 .
There was a stage in early 2010 when Rooney had a better goals for game ratio (only marginally of course) than Messi did over the season, a little before his injury. At the time I also thought Rooney in that form (the peak of his powers) was a more valuable player to have in the team than Messi (who was still close to on par with Rooney's form when he had a whole new level to reach as we now know) and as such obviously that statement is now untrue.
But there was a small window in early 2010 where the argument could've been made that Rooney was ever so slightly in better form than Messi.
Obviously not now though, or ever again.
I'm not so sure about that.

What if Rooney scores 5 goals in the next 5 games, while Messi scores only 4??
Are you telling me that there is a moment in 2010 where you honestly would have picked Rooney over Messi if you were offered both players??
It has never been a comparison between Messi and Rooney IMO, as much as I love Rooney.. And it's never a good idea to base your opinion on a small window.
Besides, look how he described the way Messi plays.. Not a fan of Messi, is he?
Great job that did for them last year when he died in the arse by seasons end.
Score all the goals you want, but if it comes down to personal accolades over club trophies, they both need to take a look at themselves.
All that says to me is that Messi is bigger than Barcelona and they freely accept that. Sorry but with a club the size of Barcelona and the players they've had in their past, no player is bigger than their club. No matter how good they are.

What exactly went wrong for them last year? Certainly wasn't Messi's fault, it was down the squad not being strong enough and indifferent form from many other players, he was carrying that team for much of last season. If anything the reason they were even within 5 points of R.Madrid was down to Messi. In the CL it was Messi's goal that played a huge part in them getting to the semis and against Chelsea he missed a penalty and weren't far from going through there either.
Messi has a unique opportunity here to beat a record that I think many thought in this current age could not be toppled so they will support their player is doing so, nothing to do with him being bigger than the club.
Villa's injury was a blessing in disguise for them. He had been doing a lot of nothing. What hurt Barca last season were Pedro and Puyol's injury problems.Indeed, the fact that Messi was all alone to score the necessary goals needed to keep them up there is credit to Messi alone. Real Madrid not only had Ronaldo, they had Higuain and Benzema who scored 20+ goals a piece. Who did Messi have to help him? If Barcelona had Villa, I am not sure that Real Madrid would have won la liga to be honest.

By the way, any news on his injury?
vilanova said that he is travelling with the team because he can play, so he might be in the starting eleven
And the record is broken.
What should little Leo do to convince the world that he is the greatest player ever?
and abidal's cancer

At 25, when he reaches 30 I don't think there will be any dispute on him being the greatest ever.
For me he already is.

How popular is Messi in Argentina (given that he left the country at a young age)?
Win the World Cup. Rightly or wrongly, it is the only way that he will become the best player of all time IMO.
Carry on as he is. He is only 25, so there is at least another 5 years of this.
