driving the argies on. first touch and little drag back was sublime

anyone see the linesman getting his picture with him at half time? thought that was embarrassing, reminded me of the costa rican team lining up to he could sign their shirts

He took a picture with Alexis as well, seems that was his last international match.

Brilliant goal. His feet are just incredible.

Easily the best player in the world and how anyone can doubt that really bemuses me. An honour to be watching him.

Come on now guys, there's no use arguing against Cal? wrt anything regarding Messi and/or CR.

Cal?'s still convinced Ronaldo is the best player in the world and nothing/no-one's going to change his opinion.

Oh, ONE... :eek::eek::eek:

Apologies for forgetting such an amazing feat.

the apologies should be for saying he didn't score a goal in the two world cups he played

btw, in 2006 he only played as a regular the game against the dutchs -he was replaced after 70 minutes-, then he played a few minutes against serbia -15- and 6 against mexico

on the other hand, Ronaldo played every game as a regular in 2006 and scored one goal -penalty against Iran  tremendous achievement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and in 2010 he scored the 7th goal against North Korea!!!!!!!!!!!! unfukingbelievable

so ronaldo >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> messi

Most of the time you only get drawn against 1 of all those you or Sewelly named.

You get one minnow (San Marino/Andorra/Liechtenstein). Then you get one the next step up from a minnow (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan), then in the next pot up you have Scotland, Lithuania, Northern Ireland. Not to mention the fact that you get two rounds of this (for Euros and WC) in the timespan that SA qualifying happens.

South American qualifying is 8 or 9 strong teams and even the minnows of the group see you playing at altitude. Every match is high intensity, rivalrous games with both teams going at it. The difference in difficulty for a player to maintain an impressive scoring record between continents is huge, absolutely no doubt about it.

Messi's 12 goals in 8 apps for Argentina in the 2012 calendar year

Good watch. Scoring looks so easy with him.

(29.02.2012) Int. Friendly | 3-1 v Switzerland | 3 goals
(02.06.2012) WC Qualif. | 4-0 v Ecuador | 1 goal
(09.06.2012) Int. Friendly | 4-3 v Brazil | 3 goals
(15.08.2012) Int. Friendly | 3-1 v Germany | 1 goal
(07.09.2012) WC Qualif. | 3-1 v Paraguay | 1 goal
(12.10.2012) WC Qualif. | 3-0 v Uruguay | 2 goals
(16.10.2012) WC Qualif. | 2-1 v Chile | 1 goal

Unless you're in one of two groups that have one team fewer. Portugal had that last time. I should know as we were in their group. We got drawn twice in a row in a group like that, with no poorer nation after us :(
This time we got Cyprus as the lowest seeded team. Arguably the best team by some distance in that rank. Been a good 6-7 years since we got a "freebie".

Thomas Müller scored more then both combined in one world cup. ;)

He must be a god then. :D

People need to stop this "not good enough if he can't do it at a world cup" nonsense.

It's just Messi and Ronaldo fanboys being Messi and Ronaldo fan boys.

Well that's not really hard though.

Google for Ronnie and about 75% of all pictures where he isn't on a football pitch is some gay stuff.

I googled him and if it's not a football related pic it's with him and a chic, cover shots for magazines excluded. Found one of him and Ole smiling at the camera in the dressing room.

So either you two google homoerotic stuff from time to time and Google has picked up on that for you or you know where to search.

Are you honestly trying to compare them in the 2006 WC? Ronaldo played a big big part in Portugal making the SF, Messi wasn't even a regular as you said.

I don't understand why it's so difficult to speak about either Ron or Messi, without bringing the other one up in the conversation.

Fans need to understand, and get to grips with the fact that Messi is TBPITW and stop trying to prove otherwise because it just makes them look incredibly obssessed.

It's almost as if admitting how good the 1 is - is at the expense of the other, which is far from reality. We're 99% United fans on this forum, so surely we shouldn't have any "vested" interest or bias on the topic. Ron played a huge part in our history, but it was definitely a mutually beneficial relationship (he benefited as much as us) and then he decided to move on. Wish him luck. Remember him fondly. All that.

But you'd swear at times, it's as if United owe Ronaldo some debt of gratitude or something. FFS. Move on.

/Rant over.

Anyway, back on topic.

Marcos, what's been the difference in Messi all of a sudden scoring for the NT, like he is at club level? New coach?

I'm sure the last freebie you had was Liechtenstein and they done you for 4 points.
