Lionel Messi

This is still one of my favorite goals by him. Sums up his game for me.

He shows incredible strength to win the ball (something about his game which is underrated), then goes on a mazey run and a trademark left foot finish.

Ive not seen him live, but I did get this close to him outside the Nou Camp about 5 years ago

Messi get a lift from Roy Orbison!

In all seriousness though that is his dad. Great pic too

Anyway - don't wan't to turn this into a 'would Messi play well in the Premier League thread' cause I definitely think he would and would have loved to see it in his prime..

In his prime.... he's 24, isn't he?

He was great before his legs went.

Lol - well he's not going to leave Barca for.. Lets say 6 years?? At this time he is writing history. There's no chance he'll leave until he's not needed.

IF he leaves at all. Could see him scoring 7/800 over a career at Barca.

I don't personally, Zidane and Ronaldinho had more creativity and charisma to them

Jury is out on Messi till he performs for another team than one of the best ever

Well thank feck that's just your opinion. And the wrong one at that.

Royston Drenthe: "I've played with Ronaldo and he is obsessed by Messi. He sleeps and wakes up with it"

"If Messi makes 3 on saturday, Ronaldo wants to make 4 on sunday. I've seen him angry when he didn't score and Leo did"

Maybe Cal? actually is Ronaldo???

im off to dream about playing vs messi and stopping him in the champions league semi final over two legs with the media declaring me the best that ever lived. Cheerio.

he tries hard to not be egotistical but its his personality it seems, he is the player in the playground that is talented but hogs the ball so everyone hates his attitude but Messi is the holy angel everyone loves. must be annoying for him. Both deserve all the praise they get and have struggled in life. Hard work pays off.

Yep, I saw him live once. It was in Rome and he tore us a new arse-hole.

Still can't get over the fact my mate and his dad went over to a random Barcelona game v Albacete simply to go to the Nou Camp and it ended up being Messi's debut. Bastards.

Aye, I think his back to back La Liga hatricks in that game and the Valencia games will stay long in the memory for me because he went on a run of scoring 10 goals in under a month and pretty much every one was trademark Messi.

I've seen Messi play live a few times - good, bad and indifferent. Which is better than my track record watching Ronaldo I, Zidane, Figo, Ronaldinho and Zlatan, none of whom made it past indifferent when I was watching (except for one match at OT of course).

However I haven't seen him play live for over a year. I reckon the odds now, particularly at the Camp Nou, of him playing great despite my presence, are excellent.

That said, I remain optimistic that my jinx characteristic will kick in next time United play them - so long as someone gets me a ticket.

Everything has been said about him; I wonder, because he has upped his game virtually every season, how is he going to perform next year?

I think we should have a sweepstake of just how many goals he will have at the end of the season.

Imagine if he goes through a dry spell and doesn't score one half. I'm sure all of you people hyping him right now will turn on him then!

11 goals this month (so far)

You should've seen my home forum when there was talk about how he had peaked, had lost pace or become too selfish, blah blah blah...Even diehard 'fans' have a tendency to go from one extreme to another in an instant

He's the best player I've ever seen by a distance. Personally I reckon he'll be seen as the greatest ever when he retires, if not before then.

As someone said in one of those youtube videos: 'Maradonna was Maradonna some of the time, Messi is Maradonna all of the time.'

dont want to go backwards in the thread but feck it.

Supposing you do get people who want to see him play in for example, the Premier League, but say 'he wont want to leave Barca' etc.

Has anyone actually thought about what would happen even if he died fancy a move away? Imagine the transfer fee Barca would be looking for, highly unlikely anyone could pay it.

I really liked his assist to Xavi, terrific technique heading the ball - if only Piqué & Busquets could learn as well
