You contradict yourself when it suits your agenda.

How?

Spain have won everything there is to win in recent years (ignoring the stupid Confed Cup);

Argentina (with Messi) have failed time and again at the QF stage of the WC & Copa America.

The fact Spain's winning goal against Portugal was actually offside doesn't change those facts.

Whatever makes you feel better about Messi shitting on your dude from a great height cal? ;)

hehe

With Messi having a massive 1 more goal in La Liga and Barca holding an insurmountable 1pt lead over Real?

Right...

Sigh... Messi 8 goals 5 assits 0 pens

your boy 7 goals 7 goals 1 assits, 3 pens.

Someone will be very upset with the sidetracking of the thread. :nono:

If you insist on talking about that again, go dig up that thread.

I've not mentioned the lad's name :)

Hahaha!

Let's not go there... ;)

Let's stick to talking about Messi, his amazing record for his club or his mediocre (I'm trying to be nice) record for his country.

17 goals in 62 internationals, especially given the number of easy qualifiers Argentina always have is just...

He, he - this is like a rerun of the 'who's the best player in the PL Cal?' of a few years back.

Yup he can't find the net to save his life in those Argie colours, then again being a complete player not of the mythical type, he doesn't need to score to have a good game :)

Again, he doesn't seem to ever have these good games (without scoring) for Argentina when it counts, QF exit after QF exit...

Unless you want to talk about the Olympics.

He was brilliant vs Uruaguay to be fair in the Copa, his pass to Higuain to get Argie back in the game is something a certain bulky ex winger can't pull off. Let's be honest here.

Against Germany he played some good passes, but was playing in the defensive midfielder role for the majority of the game.

I'm not sure why you laugh at the Olympics? Is it because a certain lad was left crying on the bench as Portugal crashed out? No medals at International level unlike...

That someone has already played in a Euro final & WC semi, a lot more than Messi has done in his national colours...

Olympics soccer, it's amazing, all the major footballing nations take it oh so seriously.

I like the way the Messi haters try to repeat the "Messi never won the world cup so he isn't the best" statement like 5 times per minute, but ok, if you want to play, I'll play..

Why try to hide behind the time barrier to make the comparisons impossible?? We have players who have won the world cup and are still alive.. I'm sure everybody have seen them play many times... So now the question is:

Why do we agree that Messi is better than Xavi and Cannavaro (while both won the world cup trophies that Messi never won), WHILE we use the exact same argument to prove that Messi isn't the best, because Pele and Maradona won the world cup???

You'll find the reason in my previous post in this thread... It's because you never watched them play everyday like you do now with Messi and all you know about them is their moments of glory, AND because no better players played at their time, so they were the undisputed best at THEIR time.

It's like that lame argument that was gaining a lot of momentum that: "Ronaldo is better than Messi because he won the premier league", until Ronaldo played Messi face to face and the debate was over..

That's why choosing one trophy (especially one that a player could only get a shot at twice or at most three times in his career) is far from being the accurate measure for a player's greatness, in a career that could last 15-20 years.. And if you wanna talk about all what Messi has achieved so far, and Maradona and Pele had achieved in their careers, Messi doesn't look that far away already..

If your man didn't crash out and actually won the tournament I wonder if you'd change your tone? As it would actually mean silverware at International level! It's not like you to flip flop to suit agendas...

As for the first statement so has Miguel :p

Anyway I'm off cal? We really are the saddest fecks on the Caf, till next time!

It's not choosing just one trophy though, is it? Maradona and Pele achieved great things at club level and at international level. Messi has achieved great things at club level but not at international level. What's so unreasonable about about saying that Messi needs to replicate his club form at international level (like Pele and Maradona did) before he can be considered their equal?

He's already achieved more at a younger age than Maradona did, so there's every chance he'll go on to dominate at international level as well, but until he does he can't be placed alongside Pele and Maradona (and maybe Cruyff) as the very best to have ever played the game, no matter how good he is at club level.

tbh, if Messi leads Argentina to glory in 2014 IN Brazil and with this current Spanish team and Germany being even better....it won't just make him the greatest ever on the spot, it'll be the greatest sporting achievement in history.

What?? A team with messi, aguero, higuin, pastore, mascherano, di maria, cambiassso etc winning a tournament where theyre expected to make the semis anyway would be the greatest SPORTING achievement??

Greece winning the euros was probably a bigger sporting achievment. Not to mention the thousands of others.

It was close to the greatest travesty known to man in the last 60-70 years, and I say that with all due respect to the

Holocaust
Cambodia & Pol Pot
Darfur

Greece were the underdog, no one but the Greeks liked or cheered for :lol:

EDIT: sorry for the OT, carry on...

To be fair, you're post has nothing to do with the sporting achievement part. Whether people cheered them on or not is not relevant at all.

It would be something else to do it in Brazil, but nah not the greatest sporting achievement.

It's very possible if these Argie players believe in themselves. They put too much hope on Messi, without even trying to show their best form.

As chief alluded to somebody needs to inspire these players. Messi isn't the leader to do it. I'm not sure how they allow Messi to take up so many positions in his own half and not feel guilty about it.

I hear rumours Riquelme is going to return to the fold, if he does I think we may see Argentina at their best in a very long time.

A joke for Boss

"messi walks into a bar, he meets a girl then takes her home. the lady then goes in the bathroom doing her lady things, then when she comes out she is shocked to see messi in the bed with 2 men, she asks messi what are he's doing and he replies, i cannot perform without xavi and iniesta."

Got that from goal.com comments.

2010-2011 season stats:

Player ............ Goals ......... Assists
------------------------------------------
Messi .............. 53 ............... 25
Xavi ................ 5 ................ 15
Iniesta ............. 9 ................ 13

You're much funnier than the joke!
