Lionel Messi

Speaking to paddy crerand, Peter shilton, alex stepney and Wilf mcguinness last week. Asked that very question. Messi they all said is brilliant. But if Bestie played today on those surfaces with the sort of protection messi gets he would be the one. All that close control, goal scoring and dribbling ability we so admire in messi was on display when best took the field. Cept he did it often on pitches that looked like mud baths with defenders hacking him to pieces.

I never saw Best play in person but I'll accept the judgment of those that did

Interesting.

From a watcher's perspective.

For sheer week in week out consistency - Messi, comfortably.

For gobsmackingly brilliant in the face of seemingly impossible odds - Best, easily.

We'll probably never see Messi play for a team as bad as NI or a post 68 United - the reality of football finances and nationality dictate that he's on a different track.

you can say he used to be a girl and that the hormones changed his sex

and that before the treatment he looked like this:

Interesting read. Sure paints a different picture of Messi, but I suppose all footballers (barring Giggs and Scholes) are egotistical and they do in fact, appreciate individual awards as well.

Storm in a tea cup. Let's just hope if the sulking is true, he's not played this weekend, loses out to Ron and doesn't show up for the final ;)

Not that I know of. that is why I'm suspicious of the article's content.

The press are too lazy to translate Spanish articles! Particularly when they're all about personal interpretation, minor incidents and differing points of view and it's hard to get a quote out of a Barca player (for obvious reasons )

In any case, people like reading what a nice, quiet, humble - jumpers for goalposts, it's all about the team, not interested in money or credit - kid he is.

Interesting article, I hope it's true and Rio & Vidic better learn how to say "You're not as good as Cristiano" in Spanish just to wind him up.

How sweet it'd be to get him sent off at Wembley.

this! that piece of journalism opened our eyes and showed us what messi really is, a monster that wants to play football no matter what, a depicable monster that sometimes sulks, not like we, regular human beings that never ever get mad at work

btw, i remember seeing messi celebrating the tittle or am i crazy?

Crazy, he's a total brat of a man!

The best thing that could happen, a brace from Ronaldo and Messi would be crazy trying to score against us :D

'kin hell, those poor Albanians. Some of the creative passing and dribbling in that video is just fecked up.

The pass for his second assist...

Watched that match, or shall I say practice session. Was laughably easy the way Messi ran the show. I don't think the Albanians managed to get out of their own half much, it at all.

Off topic, does anyone know why Pastore wasn't involved??

Probably passed out before the game at the prospect of having to play amongst Messi, Tevez, Aguero, Banega, Zanetti and Di Maria.

Bastards.

Watched that match, Messi's passing was an absolute scandal if i'm honest. The Albanians couldn't really have done much, it was that good.

From what I've seen of Pastore, he seems like an Argentine Kaka.. ridiculous how much talent they've got.

argentina looked to have been playing their best football for years

I think alongside Cambiasso and Banega, Lavezzi's been the most important and influential addition to the Argentina team. Encourages great fluidity to the attack.

Because any team that plays Albania just tears them apart, right? I could've sworn Portugal drew 0-0 with them at home and struggled to beat them away...

I think the more pertinent point is it's a friendly, can never take too much out of these games. Still, why does it upset you that people are admiring Messi's performance?
