i'm puzzled as to why he played tonight though. No disrespect to Shaktar but sending the vast majority of your first team with an aggregate lead of 5-1 sounds like madness to me.

I guess they have a decent lead in la-liga so can rest their players then, but surely it's better not to have send them to Ukraine as opposed to somewhere within Spain

A Spanish & Barca record, a fair feat considering the talent they had in their ranks over the years. And to think the season isn't even over yet....

I can't see him getting to 60, he probably won't score against Madrid.

We'll see his record is pretty phenomenal against them, something like 6 goals?

I do believe Mourinho has the tactics to be able to shut Messi out though, he managed it with Inter but Madrid are not as disciplined in defending as that team was.

He has never scored against any Mourinho side. Guess he might break his duck now there are 4 in 19 days, but he won't keep up his ratio against Madrid.

That's a very interesting fact.

Spices up el clasico even more, Messi will be keen to get his first goal against a Jose side and Ronaldo against Barca.

I just hope they don't make the game all about them.

Everyone knows it will be all about them, and their CL tie will probably also decide who wins WPOTY this year.

They're also level for the Pichichi I think.

if today real madrid advances to the next stage -most likely- messi will play against them four times in the next two months (2 in the cl, 1 in la liga and 1 in la copa del rey)

if he doesn't score one goal -by play, dont get me those pk, they are not the same- it will prove that mourinho is his nemesis

Well, Barcelona seems to be Ronaldo's nemesis, he couldn't even score a penalty against them. :annoyed:

even though he scored a lot of goals in La Liga, ronaldo hasnt played for real madrid as good as he played for us

i don't know why, maybe he needs more time to adjust or to play with other kind of footballers

But he played Barca 3 times when he was with United and in fact that penalty I mentioned was the CL semi 1st leg.

Anyway, I guess these 4 coming games will probably see both Messi & Ronaldo break their Mourinho, Barca ducks...

Messi is 29 goals in 28 games with Ronaldo one behind on the same amount of games. Very close indeed.

Perhaps, seems more and more likely that regardless of it Messi will probably win it. He's going to smash the record for goals in a season and that alone will probably win him the votes.

Of course if Ronaldo scores in the semis and final and they win then he's got a great chance.

Your point about Messi not scoring against Mourinho isn't all that, he was MOTM aged 18/19 against Mourinhos Chelsea, he was MOTM in the 5-0 thrashing and his record against Madrid is fantastic.

Ronaldo will surely bag one in the next 4 but if you think Messi wont score for 4 games...

It's all well and good claiming Mourinho will have his/Barcas number but in reality he's never done all that well against the club be it at Chelsea or so far (only one game to be fair but what a game) with Madrid. Very exciting. I can't imagine how it will pan out i just don't think Madrid are at Barcelonas level.

I know it will be construde as fanboism for Barcelona but right now i believe they are out ahead of the rest. You might be able to win or stop them on occasion but 4 games in 3 weeks? It could be soul destroying for Madrid and Mourinho...

Actually, you'll find that Ronaldo is on 29, at least according to the organization that hands out the Pichichi award.

If Messi fails again in the CL, I can't see him winning WPOTY, unless if Fifa rigged the voting for him again.

My point about Messi never having scored against a Mourinho side is a FACT, you can go hand out MoTM awards for whatever you like, but that doesn't change the fact.

Madrid do not need to win 4 games in a row against Barca, 1 win in the CL will be more than enough. :smirk:

The performance he put in the 5-0 win replaces any kinda goal he could have scored Mourinho's team.
If in a world cup winning year, Messi managed to win the Ballon d'Or I don't see what will prevent him from doing so for the next one since he will have probably had a better season

In a World Cup year, he managed to win it with all these Spanish players spliting the votes and there is also the suspicion of Fifa rigging the votes.

Anyway, I maintain that whoever win the CL tie will win the award.

Apart from Messi, would you call him the best player in the world right now?

This thread is very much veering towards a Ronaldo v Messi debate.

Cut it out.

Don't understand why these threads always get derailed like that..I always tend to think that it's purely the inferiority complex on the part of the Ronaldo fanboys shining through.

Anyone sane with a reasonable knowledge of football will know that Messi is a far better footballer than Ronaldo. Ronaldo may be a more clinical goalscorer, but I know who I'd pay my money to watch every day of the week. Messi captures the imagination like no other in this generation.
