This guy is going to fecking destroy Arsenal.

(part of me hope he doesn't, and Arsenal win...but after watching him in the last 10 days I just don't see how Arsenal can win against Barca)

There's something about his composure infront of goal which makes keepers look very silly, his finishing has improved every year that his composure infront of goal is now up there with the best of them. Look at this for example, he takes the piss

Messi....

Nail on the head. This exactly what it feels like when you see him usually finishing his chances with such ease. He does it here even more ridiculously against Casillas of all keepers, who's the best keeper in the world IMHO.

Watch Messi's goal at 9:17

 I can almost hear the gritting of teeth...

Says it all really. I feel sorry for someone who doesn't get enjoyment out of the way Messi plays the game. It's fantastic, it brings a smile to the face. You're a strange, embittered man Cal

Do you like every top footballer? I'd find that very strange indeed... :wenger:

I think it's really said that you can't get enjoyment out of seeing a master of the game at work. I guess that means you're not into football as a sport, purely in it for United. Which is a shame imo, because the sport has much to offer beyond the club you support. No matter who they play for I always love watching great players play.

First goal v Valencia he basically dribbled past ONE player and another ran across him; 4th last night he didn't even dribble, he rec'd the past and shot from the edge of the area.

 feckin' hell. This is so pathetic really. Go watch it again ,it's Messi who made him ran across. Go watch the dribble..it's sublime

And I mean Ibra's penalty, that was the 4th goal. Messi dribbled past 3 and was about to score. That's a goal for him in my book. But of course for someone who perceives dribbling as defenders' mistakes ( running across) rather than a player's talent , you would never hold that opinion.

I've said this many years ago, nothing's changed - I'm a United fan more than a football fan.

So you think our first goal vs Pool should be credited to Valencia?

Not to Valencia. But Valencia's run made it possible. Same way Messi's run made the 4rth goal possible. He dribbled 3 defenders.

That's like saying Fletcher deserves more credit than Park because his cross made the goal possible.

Sorry, I just don't get it.

I would say yes I pretty much do. If Messi, Ronaldo, Rooney, Fabregas, Drogba, Ribery, Xavi, Iniesta, Ronaldinho, Robben etc.. are playing then I will watch it because they are great and entertaining players. I'd even do the same for Torres if Liverpool's football wasn't so awful.

Intriguing, I only like United players and a handful of others...

See what I don't get is this. When I watch Barcelona play I want Barcelona to thump the opposition (assuming it's not us) because when the current Barcelona side do that it's beautiful, as good as football gets and I watch and am in awe of how good they are.

When you watch Barcelona you want them to play to the dullest on 0-0 draws so you can come on here and say how overrated they are. You want to be not entertained and not see good football played. That is just bizzare to me.

No, when I watch Barcelona I want their defenders to make comical errors and lose the game, because I desperately want to see the side that won everything last year to win NOTHING this year.

How funny would that be?

You're entitled to your opinion, we shall see come Apr 11.
Why did you even bother with such a shit argument?
I wasn't able to see much of Brazilian Ronaldo in his pomp (20-22) but compare him against the current Messi - who's better at this stage of their respective careers? I know they're not similar players but in terms of being the best in the world.
Ronaldo. He was tearing every side he faced apart for both club and country and wasn't in a club side anywhere near as good as the current Barcelona is.

The only thing that could stop Ronaldo was injury and cheating (see Juventus vs. Inter reffing)

I see, so the point of a forum is for everyone to agree with each other and drool for Messi?

That statement I quoted is clearly wrong and somehow I'm not allowed to comment on it?

I still dislike Henry much much more, just that he doesn't even get to play very often, so there is not much to add about him.
If Messi was not around Ronaldo would absolutely be the best in the world. Ronaldo is equally as deadly as Messi in a goalscoring sense but when Messi is in the kind of dribbling and scoring form that he is in now its hard to say whether there has ever existed a more talented footballer! I guess he needs to add a World Cup winning medal and get player of the tournament at South Africa to be argued as better than Maradona or Garrincha.
:nono:

That's basic form for the very best who have played.

Been a while since Cal was being a complete and utter spastic

...but this is getting better by the minute
 what kinda fecked up logic is that ?

Cal? makes the caf look bad. I'm sure his stuff gets quoted in forums across the internet.

As Fortitude said the only thing that could stop Ronaldo was cheating.

For Brazil at one time he came up againest a defence of Maldini, Cannavaro, Costacurta and tore them a new arsehole at just 20.

As in this past week?

Try over the past year and a half. In the past few weeks he's been closer to Maradona than anyone else.

El Clasico is likely to decide the destination of the La Liga title.

If Ronaldo, with a new team (which is significantly worse than the rest of the Barca side) manage to beat Messi & co to the title, it says a lot about Ronaldo v Messi.

It won't matter. Messi is a better footballer than Ronaldo even if Real win the title. Very few people will dispute this - now - or in 2 months.

It will say alot about Madrid and Barca in the league it wont say anything regarding Ronaldo V Messi.

Did you not watch the first el classico of the season when Messi was probably motm whilst Ronaldo had no impact on the game. By your token that would already declare Messi better which is just plain silly but then you are a bit of a strange one so i dont expect anything less. You'll find a way to make Ronaldo sound better in your own words but the rest of the world who live with eyes open can see the truth. Right now there isnt a player better than Messi. It's no disgrace to not be quite at the level of Lionel Messi because this guy is a phenomenon.

That's nonsense to be fair but you are right, there is no shame being second best to Messi, no shame in it at all.

That happens to include Sir Alex.

Including Van Der Vaart, who back in 03 you predicted would be the BPITW by WC2006. How's that one working out ?

I was mistaken, but I also predicted Ronaldo would become the best player in the world when lots of people wanted him out after WC06 and have been proven correct.

So if Real win the league, Ronaldo with lesser team mates manage to beat Messi with better team mates, doesn't that say quite a lot about Ronaldo v Messi?

Also, you're happy to use the "just back from injury" excuse every time you talk about United v Barca in 08, but somehow the same doesn't apply in El Clasico earlier in the season?

I think Guradiola summed it up yesterday : “I’ve run out of adjectives – you’ll have to put your own”.

Puyol was man of the match, although he could well be the weak link in the Bernebeu the way he is playing at the moment. In terms of that game, I felt both Messi and Ronaldo were a little subdued - Ronaldo especially but understandably given his recent return from injury. Both players missed excellent chances, although only Ronaldo's mattered in the end.

FV will proclaim Messi to be man of the match in every match regardless of what happened.

He even thinks Messi was man of the match in United v Barca in 08.

I don't necessarily think Messi is a better player than Ronaldo, they both have different strengths and weaknesses and are both head and shoulders above everyone else. Either way Messi is clearly the best in the world at the moment, wouldn't be surprised to see Ronaldo dominate La Liga next season though, or even Messi again. They're both superb players, and both capable of going down as two of the best ever
