His form this is season is much more sumptuous than last.

It's only in the last three weeks has Messi improved on any of his form from 2008/09. He was absolutely immense last season as well and that wasn't in spite of Eto'o. Do you remember how the two of them would switch positions allowing Messi to wreak havoc from the hole?

That was effectively Guardiola's "Plan B" last season and it worked to great effect.

It is kind of ridiculous isn't it that someone like Rooney is having the season he is and you can't say he is the most inform player in world football. Saying that the season isn't over yet, Messi is due a bad patch...............preferably between 30th Oct and 6th April :nervous:

Ok, this is getting ridiculous now. It's cheating to have him in your team at the moment. I have no problems with admitting that he's at the level Ronaldo and Rooney need to aspire to.

How can he be scoring so many goals?

The number of goals doesn't impress me because I think Ronaldo has a better goal per game ratio but what impresses me the most is the nature of those goals.
He's just toying with defenders, scoring some goals you'd think only in amateur level they could be scored

He's 22

Twenty fecking two

By comparison, Maradona had just come to Barca himself at that age, and he was 4 years away from his seminal World Cup

He's one of the greats of the game already, the question is how legendary does he become? It's utterly fecking ridiculous, he can pick the ball up anywhere on the pitch, and there's a good fecking chance without needing to pass, it'd end up in the back of the net. He makes it look so ridiculously easy too... astonishing player. It takes a manager as dire as Maradona is to make him look anything close to being ordinary

:nono: That's clearly not true, he scores 1 or 2 goals a season where he dribbles past a few players.

You could argue Ronaldo could pick up the ball the same distance out and shot from about 40 yards (see Porto away last season).

There's something about his composure infront of goal which makes keepers look very silly, his finishing has improved every year that his composure infront of goal is now up there with the best of them. Look at this for example, he takes the piss

It's not just once or twice occasions that he scores these ridiculous goals where he just dribbles around everyone before scoring.
I bet he'll score more of these goals in a season than Ronaldo ever will with wonder strikes like against Porto

How many do you count this season?

Anyway, no point arguing about it, we shall see come Apr 11 in the El Clasico.

That's not a very convincing argument. Messi is obviously better than Ronaldo or anyone else at this stage.

More than Ronaldo scoring wonderstriker I'm absolutely sure of it.
April 11 will not decide who is better between Ronaldo and Messi, one game won't decide anything.

I wasn't able to see much of Brazilian Ronaldo in his pomp (20-22) but compare him against the current Messi - who's better at this stage of their respective careers? I know they're not similar players but in terms of being the best in the world.

 Why did you even bother with such a shit argument?

he can pick the ball up anywhere on the pitch, and there's a good fecking chance without needing to pass, it'd end up in the back of the net.

How is it a shit argument? He might score 1 or 2 goals like that a season, so clearly there IS NOT a good fecking chance that he scores one of those goals.

April 11th won't really decide anything. Messi has been on fire of late and has been the best in the world for some time now.

El Clasico is likely to decide the destination of the La Liga title.

If Ronaldo, with a new team (which is significantly worse than the rest of the Barca side) manage to beat Messi & co to the title, it says a lot about Ronaldo v Messi.

Seriously Cal what is the matter with you, another discussion regarding Messi where you just couldn't help but add your dislike and bring up C.Ronaldo. At first it is funny but you really need to just chill out and just even grow up FFS! You used to do the same about Henry and if anything your hatred for Messi is even worse, I got news for you pal you ain't 10 years old anymore.....

Takes your breath away some of the stuff the lad does. Hes a fecking genius. Pure magic.

 I see, so the point of a forum is for everyone to agree with each other and drool for Messi?

That statement I quoted is clearly wrong and somehow I'm not allowed to comment on it?

I still dislike Henry much much more, just that he doesn't even get to play very often, so there is not much to add about him.

If Messi was not around Ronaldo would absolutely be the best in the world. Ronaldo is equally as deadly as Messi in a goalscoring sense but when Messi is in the kind of dribbling and scoring form that he is in now its hard to say whether there has ever existed a more talented footballer! I guess he needs to add a World Cup winning medal and get player of the tournament at South Africa to be argued as better than Maradona or Garrincha.

I can count 3 this week!!

Barca is way off form since January. RM has several players on form. And you know that ,that's why you're setting that ridiculous criterion to compare the two. How about last year CL when it was Ronaldo and Messi. A game never determines which player of two is the better one especially that this is football, a team sport. Ronlado is a great player, one of the greatest; Messi is from another planet!!

The point of a forum is to have a serious meaningful discussion about players, I'd like to think this forum isn't a place where certain posters can just vent their personal hatred of a player. Well I suppose they can but when they keep on going on like a broken record it does get boring and any meaningful discussion suddenly just becomes almost like a playground for people like yourself. I can start a thread up and open a poll as to what others think about you and I am pretty sure most will share my views.

This thread and what has happened in the last week has nothing to do with C.Ronaldo yet you still could not help yourself but to bring him into it. The problem you have is if you don't like a player you don't like giving them credit and others giving him compliments bother you lot that you feel the need to jump on any slight exaggeration. Hell I don't like C.Ronaldo, think he is a fecking twat of the highest order yet I can still respect the fact he is an exceptional player. You can't separate how you feel about a player personally to their performances on the pitch.

Header from a few yards out and shot from the edge of the area counts as "dribble past a few players and slots it in"??

I've already said before that Messi deserved his awards last season as he was better than Ronaldo in 08/09.

No I'm talking about first goal against Valencia. 2nd and 4th last night. he probably had something against Stuttgart too . That's a week

I've said time and again that Messi deserved his awards for 2009 as he (& Barca) had an exceptional 08/09 season and have often said he's ONE OF the best players in the world. How's that "not giving them credit"?

It's when people start going over the top with comments like "he's from another planet" or "he will receive the ball anywhere and more than likely score" or some shit like that when I comment on it.

Until the recent run of form by Rooney, most people agree that Ronaldo & Messi are by far the best players in the world, and they even play similar positions (winger/forward), is it so ridiculous to compare the 2?

First goal v Valencia he basically dribbled past ONE player and another ran across him; 4th last night he didn't even dribble, he rec'd the past and shot from the edge of the area.

I agree he's on a fine run, but a lot of people seems to get carried away with it.
