Lionel Messi

I'm not having a go at you Rowen, but you still cannot deny that there is not much different in defense from both leagues, yes the PL plays with more pace and pressure but not too much different from the other sides. I mean, Messi playing in the PL would be great to watch, but he is on top of his game in La Liga and he is making every defener look like shit when facing him.

Can you please re-read my posts?

This is like having a conversation with someone in the past. It's completely out of sync.

I don't think he could, he beats so many people because he likes to attack space which means he ends up playing everywhere in a match. His game needs freedom.

If you put him as a traditional winger, you are restricting his game, because he needs to come inside. If he has to hold the width and you place two people on him, there's not much the genius could do. I've seen it for myself.

Here's an example, Messi vs Liverpool, there's not much he can do when forced to stay out wide.

Lionel Messi vs Liverpool

As outwide it's not hard to restrict the space for him to move the ball into, making it easier for defenders to deal with him. Rijkaard did Messi an injustice playing him like this.

Of course but we were having a silly discussion about what a player could do if not doing what they do best...

My point isnt that Messi wont be less effective, of course he will but my only point is/was that without goals Messi could still be a world class player, be it winger or playmaker. I said he would play left wing, not on the right and all you would say is, get to the byline and whip a cross in. He'd do it better than anyone probably but of course you are right in what you say but it wasnt exactly what i was getting at, or in the same context.

That's got to be one of the best hattricks of all time, surely? The agility and ball control for that first goal, in particular, were absolutely out of this world. Football fans harp on about the supposedly weaker defences of La Liga, but there's no defender on the planet that is capable of dealing with Messi when he's playing like that. It's just stupid how good he is - that video is pretty much 9 minutes of him taking on player after player....in one game!

Playing Messi is amost cheating, the manager can just put his feet up and enjoy the show. A touchline ban is useless to Pep with Messi around.

He wins the ball near the half way line, turns a few players inside out and then inside out again and fires it into the net. Unbelievable.

Best player in the world. I don't know how anyone can dispute it. What a goal. What a player.

The scary thing is that even Rooney - playing his best football in his career - is nowhere near this good at the moment. When I say nowhere near, I mean nowhere near.

Hattrick now.

Trust me to start that thread as Messi decides to take it up another notch.

Absolutely unplayable today.

If he carries this level of performance into the World Cup, he'll be mentioned in the company of the very best players ever, without question.

What a time in the season to hit a purple patch. Arsenal must be shitting themselves.

He already is mentioned there for me, it's now about overtaking them

I know you're WUMming.

Surely..

But at this level, he'll be up there with them in no time at all - needs a great World Cup for it to even be a possibility.
