Lionel Messi - Performances

Master at threading the ball. That's all in one season? Ridiculous.

Yep, pretty much every match last season. I've been saying it for a few years but even when his speed begins to fade he will easily slot into midfield and pull the trigger like the #10 he is to impact matches just as convincingly as he does now.

Not sure there are too many goalscorers who would transition so gracefully into a support role for others to score the way Messi does/has and yet still score a boatload. Seems to be as happy scoring as he does giving those assists

That would be a red card in a normal match. Better to rein this agression.

The golden boy does something stupid again and no doubt it will barely be mentioned or even punished.

Wow quite rare for Messi to get angered up like that. Let's hope he'll use that anger to produce magic again this season.

Other guys fault, should ahve been sent off for putting his throat against Messis hand.

What an absolute cnut. Guess one can't hide his true cnutish nature forever.

The funny part is, of all people it is Suarez who does the calming down and holding back role to Messi.

Leading 1-0 in the 34th minute and he does that? What a knob.

Not sure how the ref decides a yellow is appropriate there...

Someone commented on that incident saying we might see a more aggressive Messi this season due to his NT frustrations/final failures. Could be a grain of truth in it/but probably means nothing.

Should have been a red there.

Because he is a good boy?

And the only issue I have is that he will be cut slack because 'he is messi' unlike players like Suarez Ronaldo Rooney who would be critiscized to death.

I still don't understand what Messi was reacting to like that in the first place.

 imagine it was Suarez, he'd of got a 5 year sentence.

You see the guy say something to Messi for Messi to turn around like that, then Yanga-Mbiwa throws a small head-butt like movement toward Messi which Messi also reacts to with a stronger headbutt motion of his own, then he grabs the guys throat still clearly incensed. As much as i'd like to jump on the "oh look Messi is a dick" bandwgon, he was antagonised. However, it's a clear red. I can only speculate that because it's a friendly there was some leniency involved.

I had to laugh that there was no mention of this on the BBC football page. I have a feeling if it was Ronaldo or Suarez it would have occupied their main story column.

That's actually ridiculous, other players would have been crucified for that. Especially the one who was calming him down

Messi should just play ball, he's far too good and short to act like he's tough. Beat them with your skill...

Maybe it's the new sleeve that did it.

Yanga must have said or done something right bad for Messi to react like that, saying that I think people are making a bit of a mountain out of a molehill about it. Something was done or said, Yanga stuck the head out and Messi stood his ground. Handbags.

Exactly. They mutually pressed their foreheads together. However the alpha male in the situation asserted his dominance and pushed his head into the other guys to dominate him. Afterwards he followed up by pushing him away.

Messi would destroy Ronaldo in a fight, he has fighting spirit.

Pretty much, seems clear there was a provocation

It's the Joan Gamper game. You think the ref will send Leo off at the midst of the first half and at the Camp Nou?
It was a definite red card, but due to the circumstances as you mention, it wouldn't have been given.

You rarely see this side from Messi. Since Yanga-Mbiwa has a history of being a cnut, I wonder what he said to provoke him.

Yeah, I honestly don't see the uproar. Since when do players get punished for something like this in a friendly?
