Lionel Messi - Performances

There's nothing wrong with posting relevant gifs of goals or skills or whatever.

As long as they're football related and on topic what's the issue?

Wait, is this an all time performance thread or a seasonal one?

He's literally on his own level, playing the game. The amounts of pure moments of genius/magic he comes up with is outrageous. It's a shame really, because of the quantity and ease at which he pulls out a jaw dropping moment - it has "lessened" its value.

When he does something that is supposed to drop your jaw, you're kinda just sit there, smiling, thinking "that's Messi". You almost expect the impossible from him.

No one literally comes close.

I watched it with 2 Arsenal fans and they weren't even mad, I might never get to see God, but I've seen Messi and I'm okay with that.

Yeah, when someone like Messi plays like that against your own team you just have to applaud. Nothing else you can do, it's still genius.

(Unless you support a genuine rival like Real Madrid)

I know Madrid fans once applauded Ronaldinho, have they ever applauded Messi? do they actually hate him?

They have chants calling him a retard and such, but I don't know if they actually hate him. I doubt it but a Madrid fan could tell you more.

Personally I don't hate any player. What I feel is pure envy, probably the reason he wasn't applauded in Bernabeu, besides Ronaldinho was more likeable and Barsa authority was not so overwhelming in those days as with Messi later

And Ronaldinho wasn't a direct rival of any of the Madrid players.

They don't respect Messi as they respected Ronaldinho. Ronaldinho was more likeable.

But I believe in the end, in Messi's last game at Bernabeu Madrid fans are going to recognize Messi's value to La Liga. Messi has been a nice rival for Madrid through all the years.

how is messi not as likeable? he isn't a twat like Ronnie and actually doesn't showboat on the pitch

The best moment in the Champions League this season. Martin Tyler's commentary is so good.

The goal against Arsenal, when he completely fooled Almunia in such a tight space  Truly speechless, this fecking touch of his. It's unfair to be this talented.

Iniesta is pretty special in that move, too. The pass is perfect.

Arguably their greatest rival (in terms of players)?

Ronaldinho was one of the most likeable players ever to play football. It's hardly a dig at Messi, who's pretty much adored all over the world.

No goal and only hit the post, but this is the sort of thing that gets me out of my seat that there just isn't a lot of in the modern game. The ball control here running at top speed is outrageous

I can't think of any other player I've ever watched - live or on tape - who can do that.

fitting that he of all people scored such a good goal away to the champions, to crown his side as the new champions.

The Madrid fans will have to applaud him every time they face him, so they would rather not do it at all. 20 or so goals and a good no. of assists against them?

Punishing them at every opportunity aside, Ronaldinho was way more entertaining to watch IMO, which I think is one good reason why even the Real fans applauded him. Never a Barca fan, but I somehow find Ronaldinho more likeable than Messi too - not sure why, I can't really explain that one!

It's simple, Ronaldinho brought smiles and joy to his football. A guy who found the perfect balance between competitive and entertaining football. The sort of player even people who don't like football, can appreciate.

Best ever, give him everything, he deserves it. What a genius, an absolute machine delivering his performances week in week out. He isnt human, seriously, i dont understand how someone can be so fecking good. I am watching every Barca game lately, enjoying it while it lasts.

Read a good article today from Graham Hunter where he says a senior player at Barcelona told him at the turn of the year "Barcelona will DEFINITELY win trophies this year because Messi is switched on".

It was basically talking about how when Messi's on form his teammates step up more, they feel like they've got a special advantage with him and it gives them confidence which spreads through the squad.
