Lionel Messi - Performances

Here are a few realities concerning Leo:

1. He is better at football than anyone who has played the game
2. He makes and has made more money than most people (Certainly in this forum) will in many lifetimes over
3. He pays and has paid more in taxes than most people (Certainly in this forum) will in many lifetimes over
4. He contributes and has contributed to more charitable causes than most people (Certainly in this form) will in many lifetimes over
5. He handles himself with a professionalism, enthusiasm & modesty on & off the pitch that I contend few on the planet could endure for even a short period of time in his position - nevermind for as long as he has. History is littered with lesser talents imploding under far less pressure & attention

I love Messi. but this post is fecking silly.

They obviously have to keep Messi at all costs. That post was Xaviesque, but point 1 was enough to defend the wages.

The tax thing has killed Messi's reputation forever, majority of Barca fans think he's a disgrace to the shirt. Players already coming forward like actresses who've worked with Woody Allen to say they'll never play with him again.

Yeah, they hate him!

His dribbling today is like he's playing playstation, and insane acceleration to get away from opponent!

Who are these players? Have players retired from international duty or just random players saying they won't be signing for Barcelona (obviously I don't expect a reasonable answer cos you're talking nonsense)

He does score a ton of goals but it's more about how he plays. One needs to just actually watch him play rather than looking at how many goals he scored. He makes other professional players playing at the highest level look like amateurs on a regular basis. The things that other players would sometimes pull off and get featured as the play of the month or something, he does it so often that the audience has pretty much developed tolerance to the ridiculous skills he pulls off. Nobody else even comes close to Messi.

This is just so true. There was a move against Betis towards the end of the game that was just absurd. And that Milner moment ...

Whoscored wants to have Messi's babies

whoscored ranking gives more emphasis to dribbling, shots taken and key passes. Something Messi does consistently well, on top of that every season he scores and assists at phenomenal rate, hence his ratings are always super high.

In other words, he does everything better in football...except marketing

well obviously, Messi is the most accomplished player I have seen in terms of attacking sense, like dribbling, creating chances and scoring. He is all time great in all three major attacking out-put a player can give. Plus he is also a very good free-kick taker. All in all, nobody is better than him, when it comes to attacking talent. Plus he backs his attacking talent with exceptional performance at a phenomenal consistency for more than a decade.

And he pays more taxes than you (forum)

Acceleration
Top Speed

Dribbling

Deadballs

You can argue his weakness may be heading, but he scored a header against a Rio/Vidic defense in our CL final matchup. He's just that good.

Did this guy just defend Messi by saying Lionel pays more taxes than us

And something that whoscored or any other stat metric does not take into account, how often Messi forces the opposition to do this:

No he really didn't, he was completely free. Anybody can make a free header if the cross is flawless. I've never really understood why that header is never put in its right context. He still had to jump to get it, don't get me wrong, a lot of people talk about it like he outjumped Rio/Vida and beat them in the air.

Actually, Rio just never bothered to think about defending against Messi in the air. Just look at that positioning. And the GOAT scores.

He didn't just beat Rio, he beat VDS.

Free is if someone sent a pinpoint header where he didn't have to jump and there was no one around him -- not even the GK.

It's not free, he earned that goal against what we loved to call at that time the best defense in the world.

It is a free header still. The defintion is that you have no one close to bother you when heading it. It's got nothing to do with not having to jump and definitely nothing to do with the goalkeeper (it's related to the defenders).
He did beat VDS... Well duh, not even sure why it needs to be mentioned.
If you want a perfect example of player beating another for a header, Ronaldo versus Essien in the CL final is a good one.

How do Barca fans view Messi after his recent signing on bonus and massive wages? How can a man claim to love a club he is bleeding dry.

Honestly, it's a mixture of feelings. On one side I love his talent and all that he has done for this club, but on the other hand he disgusts me because of his hypocrisy. If you talk how much you love the club, how much you owe it and pledge your allegiance to it, then fecking show it and do not bleed it dry. Look at Iniesta, he's the loyal one, he gets paid a decent amount of money(but not ridiculous) and doesn't get renewals every year or obscene "signing" bonuses. Messi is yet another example of a greedy human being that was brought up in poor conditions and I actually feel sad for him.

People talk how much he "deserves" all the money and how he would get paid by other clubs without a blink of an eye if Barca didn't. Fair enough, it's his right, but If he takes the money, then he should stop talking about his "love" and "devotion" to the club. It just grinds my gears. He is getting 100 mil (allegedly) and he also gets 80 mil signing bonus for fecking staying? I used to love him unequivocally, but lately that admiration of him has been stained for me.
