Lionel Messi - Performances

Great second half today. Messi plays for Barcelona, Ronaldo plays for himself, that's the difference. Occasionally, Ronaldo's and Real's interests intersect. Football will become a lot more boring once Messi calls it a day.

Awesome goal by him. Made a great pass in the air and when received it back hit the ball straight

It's incredible how accurate and lethal he is when playing these one-two pass + shoot in goal... I mean, look at his second goal, pass, receive it back and hit it at a fast pace with perfection without chance to the keeper... he has been doing it since he was a teenager and always the same! The assist only maybe Toni Kroos or Xavi could've seen, so difficult to pull off. Plus, he looked sharp and fresh, still got great acceleration, maybe not alot of pace to go in long runs, but the acceleration to speed up a piece of play is still the same, even in only a few seconds the defender has to foul him otherwise he'll create something.

Messi gets guaranteed 104 million per year and his wages alone 40% of their payroll.
Soon to be football's first billionaire player?

Personally, I feel whatever this crazy and broken sport is offering its highest earners, Messi deserves more simply by way of being the best, so, as insane as the numbers are, if that's the going rate, he is entitled to it.

No player in the world should expect to earn more than Messi - if they do, a vid of Messi doing what he does should be played to them, at which point, the lawyers and agents of whichever player is asking for parity can hold their hands up and say, 'I see your point' before gracefully retreating from the negotiation table.

Here are a few realities concerning Leo:

1. He is better at football than anyone who has played the game
2. He makes and has made more money than most people (Certainly in this forum) will in many lifetimes over
3. He pays and has paid more in taxes than most people (Certainly in this forum) will in many lifetimes over
4. He contributes and has contributed to more charitable causes than most people (Certainly in this form) will in many lifetimes over
5. He handles himself with a professionalism, enthusiasm & modesty on & off the pitch that I contend few on the planet could endure for even a short period of time in his position - nevermind for as long as he has. History is littered with lesser talents imploding under far less pressure & attention

No disrespect but the thirst for success and a unhealthy idolizing makes way to many supporters blind. It’s just sad.

This is insane on so many levels and it’s also a testament why the football industry needs a modern regulation regarding players incomes.

I’m probably a hypocrite but these figures alone makes me uninterested in everything connected to Messi/Barcelona.
Messi isn't the problem though, is he? Others set the market - the market leader benefits. Very simple, so the overall gripe you should have is with those who enable this process, at least more so than the ones who benefit from it.

Messi is an excellent player,no doubt, but that comment was genuinely OTT. I understand you're a Barca fan, and this is a Messi thread but come on.. No disrespect to Messi, but he's also the same guy who sulked, quit the national team, made a big fuss about himself and then tucked his tail between his legs and rejoined.

This post is probably one of the worst I've seen on here.

If someone is willing to sign the checks he'll be getting, you can bet they're making more. Kudos to him for being able to earn this much, and it's nice that Barcelona are willing to clean up his tax fraud. He's the best in the game though, so if anyone should get paid crazy money, it's him. I got no issue with Messi, I feel his father and 'team' is really what could drag his name in the mud.

80% of that post is as true for Jesse Lingard as it is for Messi. 100% if you notice point 3 which is true only for Lingard and point 1 which is true only for Messi.

Insufferable fanboys of specific players (usually Messi or Ronaldo) almost make me dislike the player.

It's like having an amazing product but hiring Donald Trump to promote it. I aint buying that shit now.

It is a Messi performance thread yet it regularly degenerates into non performance topics
