Here's an excessive smiley infraction for your highly cerebral efforts.
Worth it if the rumor is true, the club is tossing away money and making sure shipping squad-players become so much harder in the future if they do stuff like this.

Its obviously a problem. In either case, its clearly not because of Lingard. It takes a total team effort and we have been lacking in the final third. No production from Rooney, and limited input from Martial and Rashford as well.

Yeah it is. But to say that's the reason we are 6th is daft in my honest opinion. The reason is mainly because our attacking outlets (Lingard, Martial and Rashford) have let us down massively this season and have contributed next to nothing in goals. So what do we do? Reward Lingard with a horrendous contract that no other club will pay to take him off our hands once Jose eventually gets sick of him.

I'm guessing players contributuons are judged by more than just looking up the number of assists on wiki.
You're right, our attackers and wingers have been amazing this season. Give them all pay rises.

Does he get in to any of the starting XI's above United? Not anywhere near Chelsea or City's. Spurs or Arsenal either. Doubt he would get in Liverpool's XI.

He looks like a player you'd see starting for Southampton or West Brom, not Man United.

We've also hit the post something like 25 times. Extremely unlucky. If only 4-5 of those had gone in, we'd be at or near 2nd right now. There is definitely a bad luck factor to accompany out ineptness in the final third.

Well Fabien Delph started last night in one of City's most important games of the season, so...

We are breaking records again, so yes pay rises all round.

You guys are right. The club should refused to negotiate any contract renewals, unless we're having a great season. What could possibly go wrong with that approach?

I do agree with you that we have bad luck, but that's what tends to happen when your team isn't a main challenger and is struggling.

It's all ifs and buts with us though. No excuses, we have been let down by our attacking outlets and their goal returns and lack of creativity have been terrible

He wouldn't start for neither. He'd probably get in the Sunderland or Swansea team. I'd take Traore ahead of him at Boro.

Not all players in the squad are starters. He's played less this season than Martial, Mata, Mkhitaryan and Rashford.

Just offer them what they deserve. If this was Lingard gets new 70k a week contract then I'd think fine, and I'm sure the responses in this thread would be much different. 100k puts him over a lot of better players here and at other top 6 clubs and he hasn't really done enough to warrant that. He wouldn't get into most people's best XI and Spurs/Chelsea/City wouldn't go anywhere near him if given the chance. If he threatened to walk unless he got 100k then cheerio, I don't think any fans would blame the club for that.

What are we doing ffs? Player who can't dribble, can't cross, rarely scores is playing winger and has 100k wages!
Now my week is complete. Two draws and now this.
Yes i know that i have issues against that player but this is too much for me.
I never, never "hated" any our player but this situation with lingard makes me crazy.

He is not good to be in 25 player squad in any top half team in premier league, he is not good enough to play in first 11 in any premier league club in general and he is our regular starter with 100 k wages. 100 000 . Pounds. Per week. feck me.
That is why we are 6th.

Ok , i feel better now.

There's absolutely no way he would get in to Liverpools XI over Mane and Coutinho.

Lingard is going to get Eriksson, Mane, Pedro, Coutinho and Walcott level wages while not performing close to any of them this season.

Naivety and gullibility on this forum is quite funny to be honest don't people realise according to press this is Lingard's third renewal in past 6 months first it was done at 50k pw and now it has jumped to 100k pw by the the time if actual renewal does occur he might become United's highest earner.

Our management has been bit reckless in last few season's when it comes to transfer fees and wages but I believe we might be becoming bit more responsible and looking for better value for our money by the way we held out for own valuations while selling Schneiderlin and Depay. So at least for me it's a non story .

We're talking about football here, not the 110m hurdles.

Yes because Lingard is known for his amazing technical ability and amazing attacking play. Rather than running around lots.

Agree, but I also think he is way below the quality of squad-player that we should have. Rashford should be a squad-player (for the striker role only), not Lingard.

That said, I think part of the reason we're paying him so well is that he's a youth-player and if we are going to ship either of Jones/Smalling/Rooney and Carrick calling it quits anytime soon, we need to keep some still for the quota.

At Manchester United you fail upwards.

Jokes aside happy to keep him as a squad player, even if £100k p/w sounds like an awful lot.

Problem is, it now sets a dangerous precedent. The likes of Jones, Smalling etc will now be looking at this and wanting alot more money to be in line.

I was reading the thread title as ' Liverpoool agree 100k 4 year deal' and came here just to mock the amount their sponsors give them :p

Ok, fair enough. I honestly don't know enough about salaries to know whether 100k/week is outrageous and 70k is fine. I stopped keeping track once Rooney was on 200k plus! If that's the going rate for a squad player at United, then fair enough, it's what he deserves. Considering his age, this might well be the highest salary he negotiates with the club so can't blame him for looking to get as much as possible. From the club's perspective, he's more valuable than most because he helps fulfil the homegrown quota.

So 100k a week for a benchwarmer/League Cup player? Insane.

Naivety and gullibility on this forum is quite funny to be honest don't people realise according to press this is Lingard's third renewal in past 6 months first it was done at 50000 pw and now it has jumped to 10000 pw by the the time if actual renewal does occur he might become United's highest earner.

I think our management have been very responsible. Just in the past three months we've reduced our wage bill by 410k/wk by ditching Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, and Depay. That could grow to an additional 370k/wk this summer if we sell Rooney and Young, and an additional 200k/wk if Zlatan decides to leave. That's nearly a potential £1m/wk off the books in a 6 month period. Very responsible and effective at re-balancing the books into a group of players Mourinho wants for next year.

It has nothing to do with jealousy. The problem is that we have the team with the biggest wages in the world, while they produce mediocrity year after year. In this particular case 100k for a squad player is pure madness. This club is being managed by total amateurs.

Whatever your opinion on the players' salaries, the club is run by people who know exactly what we can pay in wages as a percentage of turnover. It's run by accountants, financial experts and businessmen, so your assertion that they're amateurs is ludicrous.

I think he's a good squaddie with potential to improve further. Could be right on the second part, one reason behind the new contract for sure. Cheaper than buying new English players.

And how exactly do you figure this out?
As any other sane business...By looking at the going market rate for a similar contribution? I'm sure there would be plenty of examples out there of players with 1 goal and few assists in the EPL to look into.

Yes because Lingard is known for his amazing technical ability and amazing attacking play. Rather than running around lots.

He's pretty good at it and will only get better. I'd prefer we invested in a local lad who has been at the club since he was a little kid and who will only improve exponentially as he enters his prime career years over some battery operated pinball.

So 100k a week for a benchwarmer/League Cup player? Insane.

Well we've paid more than that for Young for years. To me there's a status or two between a "starter" and a "benchwarmer". Have never seen a 11-player squad win anything.

I do actually like Lingard and would gladly keep him around, this number is just obviously too high. When it comes to who wins our player of the season award he is obviously not going to be in consideration, he hasn't stood out at all. Such a huge increase after a fairly ordinary season is just odd. The club obviously expects him to kick on massively. This is unfair but he is 24, compare what Giggs and Beckham were doing at that age.

That precedent was set a long time ago. Shaw was given £100k p/w and he was 19.

Shaw was coming in as one of the most sought after LB's and he was coming in to be the starter. Big difference in my opinion.

Ha Ha! Redcafe meltdown over Lingard's hypothetical wages!

I think he is below the squad-standard we should have (I see him as around Cleverley's level), but I suppose it's fair to say that we have more troubling positions in the main eleven that needs sorting before the squaddies needs upgrading, so I suppose I'm not against this, even though i find the rumored wages to be laughably high.
