I m just gonna leave this story, including Seth Johnson, from the early 00s:

"Going into negotiations, Johnson's agent apparently informed the player that he could expect a raise on his £5,000-a-week wages to around £13,000. As they sat down to negotiate with Peter Ridsdale, the Leeds chairman made his opening offer: "I'm sorry, I can only offer you £30,000 a week."

Shocked by the massive offer, Johnson's agent reportedly said nothing for a few moments. Ridsdale panicked, thinking he had insulted him with such a low offer, and quickly upped the offer to £37,000. Jackpot"

Excellent stuff. Now to sort out 6 year, £300k extensions for Fellaini and Young.

If he was committed to united, he wouldnt be asking for 100k to stay. He is probably laughing to the bank.

Again, that's not for you or I to decide. Its the club's prerogative. If they think Lingard is worth the investment, then he is. full stop.

I don't mind having him in the squad, but if we keep on underperforming for a few more years we'll soon start to regret giving our squad players over 100k a week.

No, he is to be paid what he deserves, it doesnt mean if we offloaded Two players we give him more, we dint offload bastian and pay rooney more cause that wont make sense. HG quota and all that shit does not matter. He is not a 100k/week player in any way possible.

Can you define how we value what a 100k a week player is? What's a 50k whilst you're at it? Or 30k? How do we decide what the player is worth in wages per week? Is there attributes they need?

Then we should have flogged him and bought someone cheaper, it's not like we'd miss him. The state of the club is partly down to leniency like this. Ashley Young on 130k a week for being on the bench, ditto Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger on 200k a week. Ain't good enough.

Who? As mentioned hundreds of times in this thread lingard brings a lot to the table and is a useful player to have around. SAF loved having English players in the team and it was a big part of the culture.

It's his job. I quite like my work to and am committed but I wouldn't take less mone if they offered me a massive pay rise to stay.

Lingard can't believe it either

Those pictures piss me off more than they should. His antics that day(and all his other bullshit stuff like "HYIMM" and dab university) plus this ridiculous fecking contract makes my blood boil.

What's that mean? So if you like the club you should play for free? Messi and all must hate Barca then.
Perfect example, they'll use wages pre-tax for players which can cause division/controversy like Shaw for example because it fits with the 'worlds most expensive teenager' story.

Not so far I believe, and any other time Sky are seen as unreliable, so i'll wait for the club to announce that he's actually negotiated a deal first.

Yeah as someone mentioned, there was a similar rumour some months back too which turned out to be nothing

I bet some people are nightmares when it comes to their pay reviews in work. Demand to know what every member of staff is on and then their main argument for a pay rise is Jesse Lingard is on 100k a week.

HG quota makes him easier to sell (if needed), since all clubs need a certain amount of those. Not sure about the correct term, but a player trained in England. Looking at those quoted salaries of City's players, I have no problem with Lingard's salary. That's if Sky is even correct with this one.

Has to be money laundering. No-one in their right mind would pay Lingard that much shirley?

I like Lingard but this seems quite a high amount. Are we trying to prove a point here or something?

Am I the only one that seriously doubts anyone knows the number? The club would never do that.

I'll just hope it's typical ABU press BS.

Because of he's a long term first xi player (as that number implies) we should enjoy and settle in for more 6th place finishes.

I have no doubt about that, but to be paying our squad players that much is ridiculous. I would rather we'd sell him and buy Gray from Leicester instead, for example. He'd not cost that much and would probably accept less money per week. If not, then we should be using the ridiculous amounts of money to improve our scouting systems because, looking at our U23s we're really lacking in attacking talents in the club. Although I understand there are loads of them in the U18s, they're not ready for the first team.

This is the club that has been paying Ashley Young 120k a week for about 6 years to chip in with 2-3 assists a season. That is what we expect to pay for that sort of return in investment so Lingard's numbers seem about right. A couple of goals and assists each year to help us finish 5-6th.

As Jose rightly pointed out, people are just jealous. He deserves what the club thinks he deserves.

Agree with this. People are just superimposing their own jealousy of what footballers make relative to their own lives and blaming Lingard for it.

Nah, it's not that simple. The club can be wrong, and clearly they have been more often than not in recent years.

Bullshit to keep thinking people are just jealous of the money too. Sure, some are, but most on here just want to see this club put together another title winning roster. And making Jesse Lingard one of our higher earning players, and giving Fellaini more influence in the team, and any of the other recent poor transfers we've brought in is eroding the confidence of many of the supporters. Rightly so.

True, no one is right all the time. Although one can logically say that professionals know more than amateur bystanders.

If this was a new contract for De Gea getting 250k a week no one would bat an eyelid about it. We have players that contribute a lot more than others and fans want to see the players rewarded proportionally.

That's a bit lame and José was the one talking about Shaw's wage when he was managing Chelsea, talking about killing the dressing room. People can have the same problems or maybe we consider that fans should just shut up and cheer.

Yeah you can't expect him to score a winner in the FA Cup final or a class goals in the community shield or in the league cup final.
Has he shown anything to be worthy of such contract apart from the three goals he scored at Wembley? By your logic we should have tied Macheda to a heavy contract because of his goal against villa. Where were his goals when we needed them in last three draws at OT? I am not against him, i love him for his hardwork, but he offers nothing more to the side. Just look at his contribution in our league campaign. We should not be throwning away money on limited players.

Ok, then. Which players (who have featured as much as Jesse this season) are being paid less than him and should be getting rewarded more than him?

The club is in a far far better position to make that call than people on redcafe.

If Lingard does well then would people enjoy it more if he did it on 50k a week than 100k? No. Or if the answer is yes you're a fecking weirdo.

New contracts are very much about expected future performance. The club clearly expects a lot out of him. Personally, I think we will look back at this thread for a laugh 12-24 months from now after he wildly exceeds expectations.

That's a fair sum of money for a guy who doesn't tend to have a massive influence on most games.

I don't care how much a player earns, but for the fact we're probably going to find in 2 years nobody will be able to sign him off us and we're stuck with the useless git.

He has absolutely no talent. His biggest attribute is his pace and he's not even rapid.

I have no idea what Mourinho has seen in him, having worked with some of the best players ever

He doesn't have the focus, drive and determination to warrant a 100k deal.

But lets see, he's improved a little since the last two years so let's hope he gets better.

He will be able to fill all his garages with his Bentleys at this rate.
