Ok, then. Which players (who have featured as much as Jesse this season) are being paid less than him and should be getting rewarded more than him?
Valencia, Herrera, Smalling, Carrick, Rojo, Baily, Martial, Rashford?

I like Lingard, but 100k seems a little excessive. Especially for a player who I'm not sure what his best position is.

100k for his best years is very good value in today's crazy world of football.

If you were to place the squad into 3 earning brackets (like below) then I don't see how the sum is crazy(in the world of football)

up to 100k squad regular
up to 200k first team regular
above 200k superstar

I don't really rate him but I'm glad he's staying. We should always strive to keep the presence of academy players in the first team. 100k a week is ridiculous, but I guess when you count it towards the total duration of the contract, it's about 20 million - the amount we'd probably have to shell out for a squad player anyway; and I'd rather have academy squad players where there's a chance he would be more loyal and stay for longer.

Happy to hear he has agreed to new deal. Whilst being a squad player, we do need work horses and it's even more helpful that he's home grown.

By the by, why do people assume the amount is £100k pw just because Jim White said so?

It's scary that he even gets a look in at United imo. And I know, every top team needs hard working squad players but squad players need to be a certain standard too here. The likes of Park, Hernandez and O Shea weren't shit players. They were of the standard we needed to win elite trophies. Lingard wouldn't look out of place at a championship team.

I like Lingard but this seems quite a high amount. Are we trying to prove a point here or something?

Well we can afford it and it sets the bar high for our rivals who can't stay with us financially. Average squad players at our rivals will point to the fact that Lingard is on a 6 figure sum a week so why should they accept £40,000 or whatever's on offer.

Similarly the amount we're paying Wayne, Ibra and Pobga had so far SCUPPERED Arsenal's contract talks with Sanchez and Ozil as their agents point out that is the going rate for World Class talent.

And that is exactly why we are 6th and rightfully so.

I'm pretty sure Sky reported that Lallana was going to sign a £150k deal with Liverpool and when he did sign it suddenly became a £110k. My guess is Lingard will earn £60/£70k and maybe with bonuses it might reach £100k.

I like Jesse Lingard, his attitude, commitment, work ethic and willingness to learn/improve are all attributes I hold in high regard. He's gutsy, always making himself available on the pitch, never shying away from his responsibilites and his work rate down flanks is second to none, yet, with that said, his general lack of technical ability simply cannot be ignored. Yes, that side of his game will improve over the years, but will it improve to the extent that he will become anything more that a squad player? I doubt it very much, though I'd love to be proved wrong.

Does he deserve 100k a week whilst still remaining a squad player? I'd say no, not a chance in hell, but the hierarchy would deem otherwise. Perhaps Jose is sending a message to certain individuals at the club, those who do not share Jesse's strong mental attributes, that even though your technical ability is inherently average, your commitment to the cause and the club in general, along with a healthy work ethic and willingness to improve, will be rewarded with a fat new contract.

Hi Luke Shaw.

Ronaldo for 12m. What's your point ?
The point is any "amateur bystander" would laugh at the idea of buying Carroll for such an amount, and a office table full of "pros" got it completely wrong.

Glad he signed a contract, always works hard, has scored some vital goals for us. Not worth £100k a week but who is? Ridiculous money.

They're all being paid less than that?! I seriously doubt it. How much are they being paid?

Also, at least Martial, Herrera, Rashford, Rojo & Bailly are on their first contracts at United. When (if) their renewals are signed, I'm sure they'll earn more. When a young player signs from another club, there's always a bit of unknown about the potential. Play well -> Get a bumper deal

I hope now he keeps scoring at Wembley and puts in performances deserving of the money.

So it's only because we keep hitting the woodwork? Ok then

Its obviously a problem. In either case, its clearly not because of Lingard. It takes a total team effort and we have been lacking in the final third. No production from Rooney, and limited input from Martial and Rashford as well.

Some of the things people are coming up with to justify this are just weird.

All broken clocks are correct twice a day. Doesn't mean random fans know more about football than professional managers and people who actually run football clubs for a living.

What a fecking joke. The only reason we should be giving a player like him an extension is to protect his value when we sell him.

Nobody's going to take him at 100K a week though. So long as we keep fielding the likes of him, Smalling and Fellaini, we'll never be never the top. SAF is gone, there's no more magic that's going to turn the Lingards of this world into title winners.

Embarassing. Trebled his wages. Has not done anything to warrant that! 100k he doesn't even start every game. Doubt Mane gets anything close to that at LFC.

Terrible precedent being set by the club. Rewarding people for being below average. Only a few players deserve such wages. When you reward them for being average why should we expect their performance to improve.

Lingard now earns more money than Paulo Dybala.

Maybe we are giving him 100k/wk so we can "window shop" him. Or maybe the club want to keep him because they actually believe he's going to be a very good player.

Those pictures piss me off more than they should. His antics that day(and all his other bullshit stuff like "HYIMM" and dab university) plus this ridiculous fecking contract makes my blood boil.
This is exactly why he's hated by so many United fans. Why let off-the-field events affect your view of a player? Judge him purely by his football on the pitch and let a young lad have his fun off it. Blood boiling because of a few pictures and videos

We should keep in mind wages are one of the most misreported things in football. Could easily be 100k with a bunch of extra bonuses that may never happen or an agent leaking it to make himself look better than he actually is.

Don't understand why people care so much about wages anyway. Comparing him to other clubs is silly as every club has their own wage structure. He's homegrown and a nice squad player to have so I'm happy he's staying. Good for him if he managed to negotiate his way to a slightly higher wage.

Nonsense. No club has world class players at every position. Every club needs experienced players and younger players it has developed. This is nothing more than creating continuity through experience.

We're probably the only top club who got a former player and a no 10 as our DM options and pay 100k a week for a winger who can't dribble past defenses

Jessie Lingard isn't worth 100k. His occasional goals and dabs don't warrant him a 100K a week contract. The guy cannot cross to save his life. He needs to be a little serious. There's too much of a family atmosphere going on in the dressing room. There needs to be a little bit of professionalism like we had when Roy Keane was around to keep everyone on their toes. Matter of fact is that Lingard will never be a first 11 player. He's a bench player with decent technique. We are simply overpaying players now.

When we had SAF, we didn't budge that easily and for that we lost getting Hazard and now we're paying way too much.

Bastian was earning 200k for doing nothing
Rooney is earning 250k-300k for doing nothing
Pogba is earning 275k for not making an impact

Zlatan deserves his 250-275k because he's scoring goals for us
Mata deserves his 150k because he makes an impact and he scores goals as well (not as much as Zlatan but still)

Our wage structure is a mess.

It has nothing to do with jealousy. The problem is that we have the team with the biggest wages in the world, while they produce mediocrity year after year. In this particular case 100k for a squad player is pure madness. This club is being managed by total amateurs.

Why don't you text your mate Gary Neville and ask him to have a word with Jose about this.

He earns more than any Spurs players. He would be the highest paid player in most clubs. Who would pay him that much? Nobody. So begs the question why we offered him that?

Has he shown anything to be worthy of such contract apart from the three goals he scored at Wembley? By your logic we should have tied Macheda to a heavy contract because of his goal against villa. Where were his goals when we needed them in last three draws at OT? I am not against him, i love him for his hardwork, but he offers nothing more to the side. Just look at his contribution in our league campaign. We should not be throwning away money on limited players.

That's just stupid. If he had magic every single game he would be like Messi. Macheda analogy is also stupid because macheda had like 2 good games and then did nothing his entire career. It's wrong to say he doesn't have moments of magic. The contract depends on what the club is willing to pay vs what the player wants. I'm sure financially our club is well run and we don't spend money without seeing anything in the form of return. His image rights are probably worth more than many other players

If Jim White is involved in reporting it, then it is likely way off.
