One point behind the eventual winners is still an achievement, considering that we lost two great players and didn't replace them.

Liverpool have had a dire season.

I know, but to me I still get a whiff of the Stokies ridiculous celebrations when Chelsea scored today.

I just think it's beneath us to laugh at anyone after this season. I'm not a big 'laugh at the Scousers' person at the best of times, but if we've won the league, and/or were in the FA cup final/Champions League final, then I'd understand it.

Why ? Because we lost the league a single point after winning it 3 seasons on the bounce ? Or failing to clear the CL quarters after making the final 2 seasons in a row ? Or by winning the carling cup 2 yrs in a row ?
The scousers didnt come close to neither of the above and now have their worst finish since 1999 falling out of the CL with more shit headed their way.

For me? I could laugh if someone farts at my friend's funeral. Doesn't take away from the loss of my friend. Don't know why that's the best analogy I can think of.

Er, stoke arent either Chelsea's or our rival. Liverpool are our biggest rivals atm. Plenty of difference and a lot of pride at stake despite trophies and for a team that was banging on about winning the league this year with their greatest players, greatest manager and greatest fans pushing them there, falling to 7th is beyond funny.

We finished 5 places above them (after being told by countless Liverpool fans that they'd finish above us this season).
We've won yet another trophy, while they now have 4 years without a trophy.
We'll be playing CL football, they'll be in the Europa League.

There's plenty to laugh at.

You seem a bit edgy Spammy. You're clutching at straws if you can't see that finishing second only 1 point behind record-breaking Chelsea isn't a complete failure.

United are always expected to win, and even though this season hasn't been a success then we can still feel okay about what we've done.

I agree we had a good season, not just in light of losing Ronaldo (and Tevez not signing), but also given all the injuries.

I'm just disappointed & I'm being a grumpy sod tonight, and I just can't see how this season is anything to laugh about. The Scousers did even worse, but I hope the day is far into the future when they ending up 7th is somehow a consolation to me when we've failed to win the league (or get to the cup final or progress beyond the quarter finals in the European Cup).

Do you seriously fail to see the irony in bumping this thread and laughing at us minutes (even the same day is bad enough) after you failed to win yourselves?

Don't try and cover it up by saying you're laughing at our season in general, because that's not what most of you are doing. Deflecting is the word, I believe.

It would be a very boring rivalry if we were only allowed to laugh at you if we were champions (and vice versa).

You mustn't have had much laughs over the last 20 years if you live by those rules yourself.

Oh and don't use that "You shouldn't post about that today" crap. I bloody hate that. This is a football forum, taking out a couple seconds to post a green laughing smiley at something funny should be in everyone's right even if they've just lost their grandmother.

Trying to dictate when people should be amused is just stupid and a very weak argument.

You've been utter rubbish which is hilarious. It was hilarious Yesterday, it's hilarious today and it'll be hilarious for a long time. Our results won't change that.

That's not what's happening. Us finishing 7th is not news, it was inevitable going into today's matches - didn't see you lot laughing this morning? This thread was bumped to try and deflect the fact that you failed. Laughing at a rival having a shit season isn't abnormal, I wouldn't expect anything less. But laughing at us on today's events - which is what this bump was about before some of you tried to save face and turn it into 'oh we're laughing because your whole season has been shite' - is pretty fecking ludicrous, we lost out on 6th, you lost out on the title. The truth is most United fans had accepted the title was over last weekend so today's events haven't taken anyone by surprise.

Liverpool's plight is funny, and you had another shite result today, which means you'll have to pre-qualify for the Europa League.

It doesn't get much shitter than that, and it is funny. I think regardless of what happened in our game today, we'd be having a little chuckle.

Erm, I think you'll find most people had come to terms with us missing out on our fourth consecutive title a week ago - the disappointment hit us then, we don't need to deflect anything today.

There are a lot of threads on this forum, this one just happens to take a look at your sorry excuse of a team.

You're obviously a lot more upset than we are, so the question is - who is deflecting?

I do agree. I just couldn't find anything to be amused about myself, hence my initial post.

And of course it was a stupid post. Just because I'm not in the laughing mood today, who am I to criticise anyone regarding their reactions to todays defeat? If the Scousers' season makes today more bearable for you, then I'm honestly just happy you're finding a piece of solace anywhere. I just want all my fellow Reds to find solace where they can. Today was a horrible, horrible day. (We played so well; Burnley!; if only... and so on & so forth)

I personally agree with Spammy, but that's neither here nor there.

Fine, Spammy. You tell us. How long should we wait next time?

Nobody's deflecting anything. We lost the title. That sucks. There is no saving face from that because there's nothing we can do to put the trophy in our cabinet rather than Chelsea's. Feel free to laugh at us for that. Meanwhile we'll keep doing what we always do. Your season being shit and our season being not as successful as we hoped are nearly mutually exclusive so I see no reason why we can't be sad for ourselves and laugh at you at the same time.
 
Inevitable? Couldn't you have leapfrogged Villa had some extra money in the bank and started your season of life in Europes 2nd tier of cup football slightly later?

I take consolation from the fact that even if we would normally sit and think it hasn't been the greatest season it could always be worse and Liverpool sum that up perfectly. After everyone writing us of at the start of the season could you imagine today being sat in 7th, Europa cup to look forward too, Out the CL in time for santa coming, manager not happy and only two little rays of hope possibly leaving.

If that isn't to be laughed at then what is.

I didn't even know the Scousers' result until an hour ago, didn't stop me from being at peace all day.

We lost the title a week ago, I was hurt then, today was all about finishing the season off on a good note and enjoying some goals from our players.
