If Rafa or whoever takes over manages to keep the core of the team together and just gets on with the business of football, Liverpool will be back to being contenders.

Once you have these 'outside' issues creeping into the day to day management of the club, you are in serious trouble.

Liverpool have been a top club for many years now, having gone through the thick and thin. Unlike some who are suggesting one bad season indicates the demise of the club, it will not happen....unfortunately :D

But if Rafa remains, I will continue to hope;)

You're making the assumption that the Liverpool board will continue to give them money to improve on their squad even if they failed to make it into the CL, they're skint and if they miss out on the cash that the CL brings for more than 1 season, they're going to find it very hard to get back in unless they get a new owner who has more money than brains

Out in the UCL group stages
Out of the FA cup by losing to Reading
Out of the title race in September
Out of fourth spot.
Political wrangling between club and manager

Thank you Mr. Benitez for a season of pure joy and happiness.

Using Liverpools misery to disguise the fact that we're probably ending up with the Carling Cup is sad... but i'm in on it...

True - but:

Winning the Carling Cup vs. no silverware at all
Going out of the CL at the QF vs. Being knocked out in group stages
Fighting for the league until the last day vs. finishing around 7th below Villa, City & Spurs
CL football next season vs. Thursday nights on Five

I know which season I'd prefer

They've achieved something this season which Manchester United never have managed;

Knocked out of Europe twice in a season!

better get used to this :D

Dont be fooled, behind those *fake* smiles lies a broken man who knows his teams best days are long long gone.....their days at Europes top table a distant memory and any hopes of a league title decades away.....wouldnt surprise me if they lost 50% of their fanbase this summer anyway, the increase in Chelsea fans next season will be there for all to see.

Bingo. Dumpling puts a brave face on it, but inside he must be gutted.

This looks like the end for Liverpool FC. Thursday Nights Channel Five, no CL income, Torres looking fed up. Benitez needing a £20m pay-off. Sad bitter fans who care more about stopping United than doing any good for themselves.

To think this was a once proud club with dignity and self-respect. Almost feel sorry for them.

Indeed, one wonders what the likes of Bill Shankly would make of the modern day Liverpool.......he must be turning in his grave, hed be ashamed to have once associated himself with the Name Liverpool FC id wager, theyve become the ultimate has-been/washed up bitter fans football club ...a far cry from the club he once knew, one could say built.

Shankly would be ashamed of the Liverpool of today and to what depths they and their fanbase have now fallen, as im sure are many former greats....

You could see it in Torres eyes today, he might as well have had the words " my god what have i done" printed on his forehead.....all that money, all those hopes and goals and hes basically moved to the spanish equivalent of Atletico Madrid, a club well in the shadows of its most hated rival with a fanbase more obsessed with its rivals failure than their own success....

a loss today is a win for them. It's kind of sad watching a team being so pathetically effortless because another clubs failure is more important than their own success.

Let it go mate, its done. We lost. :D

This is how it feels to be liverpool
This is how it feels to be small,
This is how it feels when your team wins nothing at all,
Nothing at all,
Nothing at all,
Nothing at all.....

Come on now mate, go easy on dumpy, his clubs in tatters, hes desperatly searching through the wreckage for glimmers of hope, hes just witnessed his clubs home grown captain throw a match to stop a rival, the clubs in a mess the managers on the brink the owners are bankrupt the banks want their money….....he needs our support not our ridicule.....this is Liverpools darkest hour, the club is on its knees.

And i still wouldnt Piss on em....

If Wigan go and hold Chelsea next week that sad display Liverpool gave today will be all for nothing.

Seeing as they're being charitable to their opposition these days, I don't know if any of them have any vendettas against West Ham, but if Hull win today they only need to beat Liverpool 22-0 on the final day to have a chance of staying in the league.
