1998 was the turning point. The vitriol Beckham received, he was booed at every away game and it felt like a siege mentality as his only support came from us United fans, they had burning fecking effigies of the bloke. I still couldn't totally shake off my support but then with the shite United players received, I went to an England game at the old Wembley and all that seemed to be sung around me was "Stand up if you hate United". I received racial abuse from my 'fellow' fans that day too as I sat there in my England shirt. I was about 14 years old.
Then into the mid 00's came this media and player arrogance, Owen stating "I don't think any of the Croatian team would get into our team" after England went out in qualifying. The John Terry racism incident meant feck all as he was still picked for England as Rio stayed home, not sure if he was still captain but that was a disgrace. Then the racial abuse the likes of Rashford, Sancho and Saka received. I forgot the abuse Hargreaves received just because he didn't play for an English club at the time, I mean he was only playing for UCL winners Bayern Munich
I've probably missed other reasons too like how unlikable Gerrard, Terry, Ashley Cole, Owen were,
I could go on with how the press and Hoddle treated Andy Cole or how the media hounded Cristiano Ronaldo after 2006 and went on about how he should be 'battered' when he comes back to England.
Due to all of this, its United > England
