Leon Goretzka | Bayern player in the summer

I'm probably missing something about him but what are his main attributes exactly? I've only seen him a couple of times but he didn't seem anything special in those games. Contrary to Keita for example (who I've only watched after he's been linked with us, so couple of games as well), who can have a bad game and still showcase his talent at the same time. Guess he is a decent passer and by the look of him has a decent physique but other than that, what else? Doesn't seem to score or assist that much and while his defensive record looks good for a box to box midfileder it doesn't really warrant such an enormous interest.

Obviously it isn't. Goretzka is a smart guy, he can choose the club of his liking, and pretty much dictate his wage demands as a free agent.
Still, I have my doubts about Liverpool being the top contender to land him. From a legal standpoint he's free to sign any contract from Jan, 1st on. There's zero reason for a pre-contract agreement, if he had made his mind up for Liverpool already. So if I were to guess, this is probably negotiation tactics to up the pressure on those clubs who he might want to join for real.

That's true. If he makes a decision in a few days, which he said he would, it might just as well entail him signing officially to his new club already. I'm pretty sure there'll be an official announcement regarding Goretzka within the first 2 weeks of January.

I’d be very disappointed if Goretzka went to Liverpool. He’s a perfect addition for us. I think he’d suit us more than a Savic style midfielder. I feel Goretzka is more of a B2B whilst Savic an AM.

He's a much better potential that Savic imo. Albeit different types of players.

Would be an amazing coup if we landed him.

With him and Keita, we can forget about 'deep lying midfielders' etc. Just play two allround boss midfielders and have them boss the centre, a la Petit/Vieira.

Heavily linked with Barca too.

He's already said he wants it settled in January. That's reason enough.

Again, there's nothing that could prevent him from signing an actual contract in January.

I don't get your point. Whether it is a pre-contract (for English clubs) or contract (everyone else) he signs in January, he will not transfer until the end of season when his current contract expires.

Why would he have to go for some non-binding pre-contract blabla agreement, if he's free to sign up for whomever he wants, starting, Jan 1st, 00:01am? If this was a done deal, your Twitter ITKs would have said so.

I will be seriously pissed if Liverpool get him.

Do your fecking thing, Bayern.

In actual practice the pre contract is no different from a regular contract starting June 1st.

Goretzka and Keita does seem like overkill but could also be very dynamic if they get a holder as well, I'm not sure they are cut out to be a partnership as they are too similar. My guess is that if they get Goretzka they will probably move more to a 4-3-3 and perhaps Lemar wont be bought.

If he is bought though I think Lemar would compete with Mane for the left, Salah is undroppable for them and I can't see Lemar or Mane in the central role Firmino plays.

I don't think klopp likes or wants an out and out DM.
Seems to me he wants a dynamic duo at the base of midfield , in a sort of pivot where if one goes, the other sits deeper but either able to cause real damage in the opposition box.
I think he sees Keita and Goreztka as those 2.

Well, let's see if it happens, then. Would be definitely a huge coup for your club.

Aka - An Old School midfield pairing.

But yeah, I reckon so. If he can pull it off, it would be lovely. You can't do that with lesser players at this level.

He can officially sign a contract from June for Liverpool, too, on January 2nd, can't he?

Anyway, kicker have commented on the BILD article and say that Goretzka to Liverpool is "possible, but not very likely". Nothing new there.

He has Barca and Bayern as options. Why would he take us or Liverpool above them ?

It isnt happening. On to next target guys :)

We must be shrewd and try to sign him. Maybe for a change let us strike a transfer bargain and get a solid deal.

United need to really get this guy. If Liverpool get him, I'm gonna have a meltdown.

If news reports are to be believed, he has Barca, Bayern, Juve, United, City interested in him. No way he chooses us. Unless.......... is there a Blackpool equivalent in Germany? ;)

There may well be but I would be concerned about how awful the place is. Blackpool is supposed to be the Las Vegas of England... What the hell would a place that's supposed to be Blackpool look like? Not sure that we'd convince anyone to sign if we took them there

I'm not sure that would work, kinda like trying to pair Lampard and Gerrard, there's a reason the top teams all have a holder, it gives balance to the side.

Techinically it's like having 2 6s and 2 8s. Both can drop off without the ball and more importantly can add to the numbers in the final third vs parked buses. Lampard - Essien worked similarly.

Neither of them are anywhere near as good defensively as Essien was and even then Makelele often anchored behind him and Lampard, it just seems like more videogame stuff from Klopp who wants everyone attacking.

You probably haven't watched Keita though i agree having a holding player behind them is better for balance but hey, they both play in a two in Germany.

I've watched lots of Keita, Leipzig are an entertaining team with him and werner espeically good. In a two with a holder though, someone to balance their attacking stengths.

A two man midfield of Keita and Goretzka is completely unrealistic and it would make no sense to acquire both of them with such a plan in mind.
Both of them are very vertically oriented and it would be nonsensical to deprive them of their main attribute in order to have one stay deep.

I doubt Klopp's plans are 'videogame stuff', but some posters' surely are.

Thought this guy was Bayern bound?

How good is he? I've never actually watched him play but there's lots of noise that he is to follow VVD.

Theoretically, they could play in a midfield 3 with one other player holding. Klopp has done this pretty regularly in the past at Liverpool, with Henderson, Wijnaldum and Lallana/Coutinho in a 1-2.

Which hole are we looking in?
He's a left "interior" but can operate as a todocampista imo. Has great technic and a eye for key passes - 05 assists in 14 games so far. Hes similar to Kaka.

Twitter says he is off to liverpool. Liverpool will have a seriously great. squad if they get him and Lemar. Probably one of the most exciting in europe.
