We had a former World team of the year midfielder on the bench.
Meaning we could have a midfield square of Matic, Nzonzi, Banega, and Pogba operating for us, if they were our players. Rather than McTominay and Alexis in it....

For 20 million pounds, we should seriously look at him. If he goes to Barca,he would be their third choice CB at best but here he can be a starter provided he proves himself to be better than the others.
Top draw talent would be a great signing however I think we need someone with abit more experience.

I'd rather Alderweireld than Lenglet. We're crying out for an experienced and composed head at the back.

That's more what I want. Imagine a situation, with our injury record it could happen, Lenglet and Lindelof at the back.
I'm a bit van gaal'esque when it comes to CB partnerships, so a left-footed defender would be very nice.
I don’t think we’re crying out for much at the back at all. Every single year we have the best defence in the league and I have to read about how we need a centre half. What we need at the back are full-backs, and that is more for the attack than the defence anyway.
I agree. Doesn't make sense to invest in a new CB when we need to upgrade on both of our fullbacks. Buying atleast one world class fullback would help us a lot attacking wise.
Agree. It's not that we couldn't use a great CB, but it should not be a priority!
Another lindelof type signing. Player who has potential but who will need time to adapt. Don't want it. We need top class defender who will lead defence.

I agree with you. I suppose "crying out" was too strong a phrase, though our defence has looked suspect at times - especially when pressed or put under pressure, with DDG having to bail us out. What I meant was that if we were to sign a CB, I'd rather it be a an experienced head with leadership qualities rather than another prospect. Agree full backs should definitely take precedence.

That’s football. What I will say, is that no other team’s defence is better in this league. We are very hard to score against.
Because we are shite in identifying talent. Chelsea bought Lukaku, De Bruyne, Cuadrado and we bought Powell and Zaha. It wont surprise me a bit if we invest 30M to by Lenglet only for his value to drop to 10M the very next season.
Doubt this guy is really better than the likes of Smalling and Jones.

Perhaps it's just me, but I personally do not rate our defence that much.
When you exclude De Gea from the situation, I think we're rather vulnerable at the back. De Gea almost masks some of our defensive problems IMO.
Our fullbacks are definitely not good enough, as you've already mentioned.
I'm not saying that replacing our centre backs should be a priority, just that we can probably improve in that area significantly.
Plan B if Spurs are deluded enough to want £50m for Toby.

Please not another average CB. We already have Lindelof who has a lot of potential. Maybe if we sell Rojo or Jones it could be an option. I don't think we can give him enough game time to turn fulfill his potential.

Jones has thrown away his career at united with his idiotic mistakes and terrible injury record.

You make it sound like our current options are dreadful, Bailly and Smalling at the moment stand as a very reliable partnership, this guy will get plenty of opportunities to show his worth in the mean time.

Lenglet was awesome against us (though we didn't exactly make it difficult). He also seems very good at bringing the ball out of defence. If he comes, Jones is definitely a goner.
