You know what, feck it. Sell Blind, Rojo and Jones, Buy Toby and Lengelet. We have been carrying too many passengers for too long now. We need to be ruthless when it comes to selling underlerforming players.

My argument is that if we have to choose between an experienced defender and a young defender with the same football IQ + leadership skills then we must choose the younger option. The latter tend to be faster, stronger and has time to improve himself. The Former has time against him.

An experienced defender must provide skills which young defenders can't provide. That include leadership, an ability to transmit his experience to others, a certain calmness on the pitch and an ability to rally the troops when needed. I don't feel Smalling, Jones and Rojo do that. If they did then we wouldn't need Toby

It's not beyond the realms of possibility that Toby will play at top level until 32. 3+1 year contract should be well doable.

The issue is we can't be breaking another defender in this season like Lindelof. We need an experienced leader that is ready to start. This fella seemed good against us, I just think we need Toby to give us that real presence and leadership. We cannot resort to playing the chuckle brothers at the back again. It feels like we are going for this guy to save money, so we can blow it on a huge signing we don't need as much. He's a unknown in the league and it's a risk. This with Dalot and Fred and it's shaping up uncertain window in my opinion.

I'd 100% agree with this, we've put up with mediocre for too long.

Ideally, we'd bring in a tall, commanding CB, dominant in the air and comfortable bringing the ball forward/playing out from the back. The problem is, I don't think that exists for us this summer. Compromise might be needed.

Going by highlights pretty good but primarily he's a fantastic defender, tackler, interceptor. Some very insane tackles. Will definitely aid in our setpiece bullshittery defending.
