Leighton Baines

We would hold out for more than £15 million in my opinion. He's worth that to us and it's our valuation that matters at the end of the day.

Agreed, but I'm just questioning the realism of your outlook. If you believe EFC will hold out for 20 million, fair do's. I think they'll see financial sense at the 15 m range, myself. We'll see

I really do rate Baines highly. If he was 2 years younger I could see myself very invested in any muppetry surrounding his signing. His age just puts me off that little bit, despite how unbelievable that grey fox we signed last summer has been.

£12m was asking to be rejected of course, what Everton would call derisory i imagine.

An opening offer to put club and player on notice before it rises to a figure somewhere between 20-24m would be my guess.

I switched on Sky Sports and saw the little ticker scrolling across saying "Sky Sources: Manchester United make bid..."

Up until that bit I got excited then say Leighton Baines, and then rejected.

I like Baines but don't need.

I read somewhere that when we put the feelers out on him last year we were asked to come back next summer, now we come back and they have the cheek to reject it.

I guess this is merely a bargaining tool to drive up the price between £15m-18m.

Although he is 28 now, he is a good all round player and deffo worth £15m

£20-£24m for Baines? That would be day light robbery.

Arguably the best left back in the league for two seasons.
English
Everton who'll only sell grudgingly and want to furnish their transfer kitty a bit.
United being no paupers and with a new manager intent on signing the player.

Sounds like a plausible amount to me, and it wouldn't be 20 million up front of course.

Sorry Nick, but really? 12 mil derisory and 20-24m makes sense? Nah, 12-15mil is his range.

20-24m would be ridiculous, 15m would be more likely. If we're going to seriously splash out on a left back why not go for someone like Coentrao? If Baines isn't relatively cheap there isn't much value in the transfer.

24 would certainly leave us on the wrong end of the haggling no denying that, however 18-20m is understandable all things considered i'd say. I'm sure if we were happy to drag things out the total would go down however if we want it out of the way early that carries a premium.

Unless we've reached some sort of gentlemen's agreement before now or Baines kicks up a fuss.

splashing out 15m on a left back, when we've had Evra put in his best season for the last 3 or 4, and have Fabio and Buttner as backups just seems completely unnecessary.

And for me, risks removing another key device in continuity. We've lost Fergie, Scholes, Gill and backroomers, Evra on top would be unwise I feel.

Anything above 15 mil is too much. It's not just about Everton's valuation, but about a player's true value. That said, if Moyes feels he's worth 18 mil then that's the end of the discussion. We'll see, but I think Nick and Silent Witness are being very generous and very optimistic, respectively.

The chances were that once Moyes arrived a move was bound to be made for at least one of Baines or Fellaini. Are Monaco still being linked with Evra?

It could well be that i have overstated the contributing factors and underrated our bargaining ability, yet with the new TV deal to boot there is just so much money out there and clubs more than willing to part with it.

Hey if we get him for 12-15m all to the good.

Maybe this was part of Alcantara's demands that Barca didn't agree with. He wants to be where Baines is.

He would certainly be a better signing than Fellaini, just depends on how much we have to pay.
