Television Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

Brilliant its returned and the trump handshake segment give me a good laugh.

Is that some sort of attempt at a "power move" from Trump or is he just incapable of shaking another persons hand?

Imagine having a conversation with this guy, you'd be covered in spittle afterwards. Disgusting.

Really well-researched segment on ACA but it's obvious he's being briefed by the Dems at this point. This was basically a memo to the public.

You think the Dems, who right now seem to struggle to organise a piss up in a brewery, are directly briefing Oliver and his show?

More likely, he's briefing and advising the democrats.

Has anyone else been slightly disappointed with this season so far? I think some of the segments have been great, but there's so much emphasis on the Trump presidency (which, I guess, was inevitable) that the show's lost that 'fresh' feel it used to have, for me, when it used to regularly look at completely random and unexpected topics. Also, I feel the Trump pieces are not as well researched as some of the best segments, kind of like he's just scratching the surface. Maybe that's linked with the fact that the whole presidency is superfical, that it's so absurd he doesn't quite know from which end to look at all these matters, but I'm not as enthusiastic about the show as I used to be.

@Rooney in Paris

It's kind of understandable though. Trump has a lot of controversial stuff like the trumpcare bill, the Obama wiretapping thing, federal budget etc. which cannot be ignored due to its importance.

I thought the Dalai Lama thing was one I have never thought of from that angle before and was a change.

@Rooney in Paris how did he do with the French outtro? Did he make a mockery of the language? Seems like he's quite comfortable speaking it, though they might have just had him practice the entire week. The subtitles on YouTube are random gibberish and nothing like the ones on the actual show.

His French was ok, if a bit hammy. He'd obviously been rehearsing a lot, his pronunciation was overall quite good but the sentences didn't flow that well. Understandable though, and quite brave of him to do it when he probably wasn't that comfortable with the language! The whole segment was very good, the Cheminade part with Larry Skywalker and that weird bear thing was brilliant

 Right at the end YouTube subtitles translates what he's saying to 'Larry Skywalker what's wrong who have not pursue least 13 sources well I love the Memphis here bonne nuit mon armour.'

Top episode today. Covers brexit post elections and a special guest appearance. Back to interesting topics and not just trump

feck you muffin, you still use your mouth to clean your butt.

"Thatcher in the rye"

Just brilliant.

Once again, why this government allowed such a massively complex issue be decided on by the general public i will never know...

Well i mean i do know, for votes in the GE... But still, doesn't make it any less stupid.

That coal piece was brilliant and I especially love him going after the cnut who threatened to sue him.

Last night's was pretty tame (I think the Sunday morning Tweet came a little too early for them). The local news segment was an eye-opener. But that trailer for the Warren G Harding film was outstanding (nod to Chuck from BCS ;)). Love this show, I will definitely miss it for the next two weeks. The Daily Show's off air for a summer break at the mo too :( why don't these shows have holiday guest-hosts?

I think it's not been the same for awhile. He needs to stop doing that routine where he looks away from the camera at the person/animal in the photo and says something directly to it in an annoyed/pissed off fashion.

It's still way too much trump. The local news bit was fun though.
Also:
:lol::lol::lol: At the guy moving the bear

Really good stuff on local news:

The dedication of the right to gaining power and dominating the narrative is impressive.

His constant digs at Ted Cruz are class. I think they hope for a week where Trump hasn't done drumpf, so they can actually cover other subjects. I'm glad the shoe has received the recognition it deserves through winning an award.

It won it last year too!

The stuff with the Scranton train was just..

I feel it's really picked up these past few weeks, I wasn't as enthused a couple of months ago but I'm loving the episodes at the moment. I feel this year his 'main story tonight' segment is often the weakest, with the intro starting off with a bang, and the closing piece being pretty good as well, but overall it's a really good show.

I liked the "and now this" segment this week showing Megyn Kelly up for what she is.

Every week I'm hoping for a segment covering their legal stuff with that coal/mining guy.
Guessing that case might be open for some time however.

Yeah that's the issue, i'm glad it's fighting the fight and all that (albeit to an echo chamber) but it is an entertainment show and discussing Trump at length every week is too much

OK segment, really badly thought-out beginning. Colonialism, not Jimmy Saville, is the UK equivalent of Confederacy/slavery. And the British state has done quite a number with that
and most people are "proud of the legacy" just like Americans with the Confederacy.

There was a guy in the audience in the latest episode with a really loud uncontrollable laugh at certain points. I'm convinced if I ever managed to be in the audience that we be me.

It's supposed to be Comedic satire ffs, hence Jimmy Saville and not Colonialism.

Fwiw, I massivley disgaree that most people in the UK are "proud" of that legacy, most certainly not my friends and family.
