Television Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

Yeah I'm in line with Wowi and Squeaky on this, I thought the book idea was pretty genius, in its planning, execution, what it aims to achieve and the donation side to it. Really not sure what is 'over the top' about it.

The book was brilliant, and no different to his setting up a church or PAC, both of which were also brilliant.

Finally caught up.

The book Troll is one of the best things to happen to TV/Life/Politics in forever. Elegant, cutting, funny, everything that it needed to be and nothing that it didn't.

Pence is an absolute cnut.

This week’ episode was brilliant mainly because of that children’s court. Plus the guy who is the voice of Bob Belcher too

I love him and the show but sometimes he annoys me in his quest to be offended. Last week he was in a huff because McDonald's turned their logo upside down for international women's day. What's wrong with that?

Later in the episode he proceeded to do a mocking Russian accent when discussing Putin. Mocking accents are something he does quite often actually yet he'd be the first to spit his dummy out if Trump or any other public figure were to do the same thing.

Politicians are and should be held to a higher standard than comedians. Comedians are there to mock things, that's their job. Politicians are there to be professional, set an example and to be a beacon and representative of the people that elected them.

Am I missing out by just watching the occasional YouTube clip?

Recently discovered that Sky Atlantic were showing this. Really good viewing, loved the rabbit book trolling

Yes!

EDIT: The whole show is normally really well written to build upon each segment. You'll often find a reference to what seemed an earlier "throw-away" gag helps explain something later in the main slot. But basically, it's one of the best things on TV and if you have a chance to catch complete shows I'd personally wholly recommend it!

Absolutely fantastic episode. Also reaffirmed how infuriatingly ridiculous certain aspects of the American society are. Makes my blood boil looking at these loons propagating their vile, inaccurate lies, and playing with the lives of several people, AND getting federal funding to do so.

Exactly what I came in here to say, it's abhorrent some of the things that go on in America it really is.

Uncomfortable topic, but necessary. A lot of people don't realize what they're doing to women's rights without ever having to tackle Roe v. Wade.

Only just seen this weeks' as I was on the road … great show once again. JO seldom fails to deliver.

Surprised they never touched on Trump's personal taxes still never having been revealed during the main segment but love the idea of news reporters shouting all caps phrases when reporting on his Tweets

Was watching this and remembered the show he did on these guys:

Not a geologist

Talkin' Tehran (we're up Dawson's Creek) ;)
+ that well-researched skateboard gag

… but everything else probably gives me more balanced insight into vital topics of world politics than most news programs :(

Other thoughts:
The JO ISIS guy
and … he knows he's gonna take some shit for wishing those kids dead

Selective quoting reminds me of this:

I think it's become so popular that it's cool to take jibes at it now. It's a great show, even if the jokes are hit and miss at times, but that's to be expected when you have to pump out so much content every week.
