That was me, I always copy the last roll and forgot to adjust for re-rolls last time out (one nil had a similar issue).

Eastern Europe it is. Great pool there, some big big players still available.

One thing I have noticed is the spread of the board needs looking at next time as there is clearly a preferable side of the board to be on than the other. A greater spread would be better so when you roll you are hoping for a box instead of knowing you're getting shafted.

I don't see that as a huge problem at this stage (re-rolls help manage it). The killer is in the first round or two when some got low dice and cherry-picked the GOATs while if you got a 12 you just bypassed the whole thing and by the time you get there it's all gone.

Yeah the re rolls are definitely helping but before that some rolls I looked beforehand for the numbers I wanted and there was like 1 number. Also sometimes hoping for relax or drop just to not pick up deadwood.

It's been really enjoyable and I'm probably just nit picking in order to make the next version even better.

Anatoliy Demyanenko

February 19, 1959 saw the birth of arguably one of Ukraine’s best ever left sided players – Anatoliy Vasilyovich Demyanenko.

From the Dnipropetrovsk Region of Ukraine (Soviet Union at the time), a young Demyanenko actually had a choice between ice-hockey and football. During the spring, summer and autumn months, Demyanenko would play football and in the winter ice-hockey. His ice hockey coaches saw great potential in him, but a lack of commitment to the sport saw him kicked out of his ice-hockey team and it was so that Demyanenko’s first sporting success, came on the football field with local side the “Swallows” winning one of the regional tournaments.

At the age of 12, he left his regional team and started his youth career in Dnipropetrovsk where he became a pupil at the well-known “Dnepr-75” football school. Here he spent 4 years learning his trade, earning a contract with local team Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk of the Soviet Top League in the 1975 season. After 3 years of hard work and development, Demyanenko finally broke into the first team squad, making his bow for the club as a 19 year old. He would later go on to recall:

“Such moments are never forgotten. I was only 19 years old, which means that the excitement and experience were my natural feelings. I remember after the game the coaches praised me.”

In his debut season Demyanenko went on to play 20 games, scoring 1 goal. His obvious talent attracted the attention of Dynamo Kyiv, whose scouts had watched Demyanenko during the “Pereprave” tournament in 1978. Valeriy Lobanovskiy – then manager of Dynamo – didn’t hesitate and snapped his man up in 1979 while Demyanenko was still only 20. Demyaneneko has been quoted as saying he was “a pet in the family” and even through the delight of being signed by Dynamo his mother and his biggest fan didn’t want him to leave the family home – just yet.

It was a dream come true for Demyanenko to play for Dynamo Kyiv – the team he grew up supporting, and this is where he spent the majority of his career, dominating the left hand side of the pitch from defence to attack and establishing a huge reputation. In 12 seasons and 333 appearances, he managed only a mere 28 goals, however it was his leadership skills that made him stand out, and he was a long time captain at Kyiv serving as Lobanovskiys general on the pitch. His time at Kyiv was hugely successful and in his time he 13 major honours and 3 personal accolades including:

USSR Championship – 1980, ‘81, ‘85, ‘86 & ‘90.

USSR Cup – 1982, ‘85, ‘87, & ‘90

USSR Super Cup – 1980, ’85 & ‘86

UEFA Cup Winners Cup – 1986

Ukrainian Football of the Year – 1982 & 1985

Soviet Footballer of the Year – 1985

Following on from his achievements at Kyiv, he moved to a small German side (FC Magdeburg) for the 1991 season, where he would only manage 3 appearances, before moving to Widzew Lodz (Poland) for a season, mustering up only 13 appearances, before returning to Dynamo Kyiv in 1992.At the age of 33 he played out his final season for Dynamo Kyiv where he helped his side win the double. Kyiv won both the Ukrainian Championship and the Ukrainian Cup with Demyanenko making 20 appearances in all competitions.

Demyanenko also collected an impressive 80 caps and 6 goals for the Soviet Union during his career, putting him 4th in the all time caps record for the USSR. Demyanenko played at the 1982, 1986 – where he captained the side and the 1990 World Cups He was also part of the USSR side that lost 2-0 to the legendary Holland side in the 1988 European Championships final.

Anyhow, fitting that I'll get my team out along with MJJs. The reason I finished a round earlier was I won the roulette round (and no, I didn't roll that! :lol: )

The weird thing was I branched out at Garrincha following this logic: teams that nail their colours on the mast with a couple of great wingers can go far, but that usually creates massive constraints.

1. Can't pick more wide players (and I'm sure they had to pass on a fair few of those)
2. Fullbacks that can stand alone with no support become important, further straining a typically shallow pool
3. If you are going to have great wings, you will be prioritising a striker to put them away

The end game usually is that the core of the midfield or the entire spine is left late and ends up being a complete shambles.

As an experiment on how such decisions come back to bite you it sort of failed, because the rolls imposed conditions which drove MJJ/Viva to sort the midfield early and, when I expected them to still have some trouble finding the right #10, up comes Overath as an option. It's a beautiful midfield, very nicely balanced.

SUBS: Domingos Da Guia, Claude Makelele and Zé Roberto

The fullbacks are ideal for the twin threat of Best-Garrincha (let alone any other combo). Instead of the fullbacks pushing forward, Scirea does. That leaves a cracking trio at the back: Andrade-Stam-Djalma, as Scirea joins Tito further upfield to pull the strings and keep recycling and pinging the ball around with Rivelino-Didí-Falcao-Best ahead of them. Uwe Seeler is exactly the sort of striker you want with that quartet, not a greedy one they have to constantly feed but one that will link up well with them in and around the box.

Shades of Brazil 70 as it is very difficult to defend against, there's no discernible way to strangle/choke the generation and conversion of goalscoring opportunities. And there are no chinks in that defensive unit.

Aye, I mentioned to those I shared it with by PM that the obvious upgrade/cherry on the cake would be your man instead of Didí. Primarily for the incisiveness he brings, Didí has much of the package but not that imperious second striker capability.

Chill mate, not sure where you get the aggression from. After a long time you asked a question that you could have asked hours before, so I joked that your digging for gold wasn't working. Clearly wasn't serious as I obviously didn't even check what the alternative box was (as you pointed out: a worse one).

It's a great box, but with that wide open "any CL red card ever" it has taken forever every time someone falls there. Funny thing is when @Raees said @Invictus was researching every match ever I just looked at his team, noticed they needed a leftback and thought of Abidal being suspended for the final against us. Several hours later they picked Abidal :lol:

Funny thing is I've been having a hard on for Abidal throughout the draft and As soon as that box became available I typed in Abidal red card and it mentioned his CL suspension.

Invictis then was tasked with seeing if we could find anything amazing for other positions but obviously we never got round to completing the research so I just went with my first initial pick.

Complete waste of everyone's time - so I do apologize.

Yeah, as far as I was concerned that box had Abidal written all over it from the start (Maradona/Garrincha/N.Santos on top but likely to go quickly). Fullbacks are a bitch so my first scan was where the GOATs are and the second was where the bloody fullbacks will come from.

Fantastic box but an absolute bastard to research as you say. It took a hell of alot of google search spamming for me to hit on Dzajic.
