Yes, he was fabulous before and after his short City experience. Injuries & adaptation issue may explain that.

No dark cloud mate, he was fantastic throughout the tournament and sat out the humiliation against Germany due to yellow cards, if that was true I can equally say Neymar's 2014 WC was a dark cloud, which obviously wasn't as he was superb before getting injured.

He hung that defence together when Brazil were repeatedly under the cosh against Croatia, Chile and Colombia. You could have driven a double-decker bus through it when he had to sit in the stand for the semi.

So mate I can't understand what you mean by "dark cloud" in terms of his 2014 WC? He was pivotal to their success until he stupidly got one too many yellow cards, which led to Brazil's defence, without their leader, to suffer one of the most humiliating loss in WC history. If that doesn't point his greatness rather than being a "dark cloud" I don't know what does.
 
Forlan is like many South-American: not made to play in the EPL.

Thiago Silva is my preferred central defender.

However, I understand that when the pressure is too high (WC in Brazil for a Brazilian player and the following Copa America), he tends to lose his usual serenity.
 
Damn I really wanted Puyol. Much rather have him than Silva. Joey Barton doesnt rate Silva and that man's clearly a genius.

He wasn't great against the Netherlands to be fair, out-muscled by Van Persie and out-paced by Robben in the first five minutes to give away a penalty, which set the tone for another very nervous performance at the back for Brazil.

Great defender though and a good pick by viva.

Fair enough though I disagree.

Given the result against Germany, the level of expectation and the fact that the game was held on home soil I think it was most certainly an important game. After the 5-0 thrashing you were expecting Brazil to come back with some sort of performance but that didn't happen.

You can say what you will about T. Silva, but rarely has the absence of one player had such a dramatic impact. Because that's what it had. No chance they're getting slapped around in that fashion with him marshalling that defence.

Still would've lost, mind. But not that historically humiliating slaughter.
