La Liga 2024/25

Atletico Madrid seem to have at least ten home games a season when they're losing and turn it around in the last fifteen minutes.

Epic comeback tonight, they equalised in 94th minute v Real Madrid, were 1-0 down to Leganes up to 69th minute and were also losing at home to Alaves up to 76th minute so that's four already and they've won very late a few times on the road aswell.

They'll be in the mix but don't quite get 20/21 vibes from them just yet.

Said it a few weeks back but Bilbao are quietly placed in the table at just six points off the lead and they've had some very impressive wins in recent weeks. In the modern era that would be some story.

Atletico has decided to become entertaining these last batch of more or less 7 to 8 games on every competition.

Grizzie, Alvarez and De Paul are all of them most of times on the same wavelength and that helps. The moment Sorloth starts to bury them on regular basis, they can become better, but I still feel they lack a bigger and stronger rooster and to attack more when they are in control, not just when they are loosing.

Great goals by Arda and Kiki these last match, they needed that

Yup. I remember back at the start of last decade when they were the third best team in Spain, behind Real Madrid and Barcelona. It’s sad to have seen them fall so much. What happened?
Bad management/ownership is a killer for any club and Peter Lim is worse than most. I think Valencia needs to go down to finally get rid of him and come back stronger.

Remember too they have lost its best players in the last 15-20 years: Silva, Mata, Villa...Really difficult in a league where play teams like Madrid, Atletico, Barcelona, Sevilla...

It will be Xabi

Ah, nice. Arda getting hisself concussed while being 5 kms orsay...

Universe back to normal. Nothing to see here

Madrid drop points again. A lot of big teams across Europe are really poor this year.

Seems like we’ll get Xabi next summer. Question is whether Carlo will make it to summer…
It would take a catastrophe for that. I'm talking risking elimination at CL group stage, dropping 10 points from league leaders in January type of thing. Also it's Ancelotti, the man earned the right to finish the season I reckon

1. Given how the season has been going, we might see that happen  Legit the worst Madrid side since 08 or something.

2. Carlo got sacked first time around. He has credit in the bank but that credit can run out very quickly.

Anyway I don’t see much hope for this season. It’s just a bad one. Bound to happen.

The thing is, with Barca also been fairly inconsistent themselves, no matter how poor Madrid are, they'll never be so far behind in the title race that Carlo gets sacked. If anything, there's a good chance he still ends the season with the title. That being said, I certainly don't see him staying beyond next summer. Madrid have only gotten worse with every season.

Athletico tied top. Sorloth with a class goal after a quality cross. Like an old Beckham, Yorke goal

He was sacked after the end of the season. And please, we're 1 point off top in the league and the CL should be fine now. This isn't nearly as bad as you make it out. Win the next 2 games and we turn at 43 points - pace of 86 over the season, which is hardly this catastrophe

I think Atletico will win la liga this season. After a slow start, they are the most consistent of the top three, and they have only lost once so far.

They are playing better, they are finding "socios", they have a knack for at least at one moment some player produce the goods even if it's not in his best form, or coming form bench (very Simeone alike this stuff).
For instance today with that perfect combination between Sorloth and Molina (who have been so bad that had lost his role since some matches).
Yet there is always the too much Cholo moment waiting in the corner, when he becomes extremely/over the top pragmatic ending shooting his very own feet with his changes or the orders given to his team that they will obey to the max.

The real good news are if they mantein this better level:
1. The great level of Grizzie and De Paul from these last coupole of months or a bit less.
2. The real great connection that seems to grow between Grizzie and Alvarez.
3. The presence of Barrios as a some kind of tidy metronome helping De Paul and Grizzie to control better the ball and let them be more agressive and confident.

Still a long way to go and all those three aspects must become better.

Barca a goal down at home to Leganes in the 4th min. Their defense has really really started to get exposed and the attack won't be able to keep covering up for them every single game.

The Lewa of last year is back in recent weeks. Second really poor miss today.

Cool freekick by Lo Celso, he might be having his best scoring period ever

Great season yes but he's been below par in recent weeks. Four big misses today. He's single handedly costing Barca this match.

The team also as a whole is entering in some sort bumpy road stage

Tiredness and fatigue will definitely takes its toll, especially in attack. There is still no excuse to be losing the kind of games they have in La Liga off late.

He and Betis are like peanut butter and jelly. Such a great player for them. I'm glad Betis won because I want Athletic Club to get that final UCL spot. Villarreal is their biggest challenger for the spot.

Barca vs Atletico next Saturday will be a classic. Atletico could make a big statement win. Barca have been very ordinary recently, need a bounce back win

Shame Bilbao didn't hang on as they'd only have been three points off 1st (if this Barca score holds).

I remember the days when teams could win La Liga with sometimes less than 70 points. Feels that sort of season where a team could win it with less than 80 points certainly with the flaws in Barca and Real Madrid currently.
