La Liga 2018/19

That should have been a yellow card. It didn't look intentional so no red card but it was careless and clumsy so yellow would've been sufficient, IMO.

Barca red card (Lenglet) upon VAR review. Seemed incidental but his arm was raised although it could have been due to his momentum/trying to keep balance. Tough one imo.

Think so, too. Very weird situation. Neither looked intentional nor natural. I wouldn't have given red but I can see why they did it.

Not even the Girona player (nor his teammates) made much out of it in terms of asking for a card. He shook hands with Lenglet and was getting ready to play on. I didn’t even know what they were reviewing at first.

Girona score 1-1.

And the game has indeed become a proper match.

1-1. Stuani has a ridiculous scoring record last 12 months for Girona.

Nice to see Suarez can still play football, this is the best game I've seen him play in months.

Messi is going to score again, or Suarez...he'd deserve it this game.

That was an insane piece of footwork by Messi. Would've been a great assist if Alba hadn' screwed it up.

This ref. Just whatever.

Barca did well not to lose, considering the refee had probably some castilian accent from Madrid. How could you send a player off in that way? Christ! He couldn't remove his arm there.

Horrible horrible horrible officiating my god

It's been a long time since I've seen a top team being screwed by the referee in this way. Usually they are on the good side of officiating mistakes more often than not.

Ref lost control of the game, during the latter stages in particular. Barca’s reliance on Messi was evident as they chased the winner.

Clear red card, not sure how there can be a debate. Flaling elbow to the face, intent doesn't matter. Ref got the big calls right, VAR working well too helping.

No chance this Barca does anything in the CL. They are so dependent on Messi it hurts. Great goalkeeper, ordinary defence (Pique is a chapter on his own and the full-backs are a joke going forward), decent midfield (Rakitic solid, Busquets on his day can still contribute), ok'ish attack (Suarez is done. Dembele overrated, goals have camouflaged his poor performances this season).

He makes a very weird gesture with the arm / elbow. For me it is not natural. Also the fact that he can not remove the arm (if he can not) does not make the blow on the face disappear

that looks 100% intentional

no physical reason why you'd through your arm up like that

What about Coutinho, he should be Barca‘s 2nd best player by now. Great at the world cup for Brazil, the most expensive midfielder ever...

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has "outright rejected" La Liga's plans to stage a game in the USA. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45621861

This is great news, & makes the rest look utter fools. I wonder who actually agreed to this deal.
Bartomeu defended the idea the other day in the radio. http://www.sportspromedia.com/news/barcelona-president-bartomeu-la-liga-us-game
“I do not know if Girona vs Barça will be played in Miami. La Liga proposed that we play a match abroad and it seemed a good idea. We have an obligation to promote the league. You have to get closer to the fans and find new streams of income. Playing a match abroad would help us.”

A midfield consisting of Busquets, Rakitic, Arthur, Arturo Vidal and Coutinho is decent? Every other midfield besides Madrid must be completely shit then...

They have Malcom, Dembele, Messi and a top 5 striker in Suarez as forwards... in defense arguably the best goalkeeper in the world, Alba is the second best leftback after Marcelo, Pique and Umtiti make a very good partnership.. what more do you want? To have the best in the world in every single position?

Barcelona have built a ridiculously strong squad, if they are dependent on Messi it’s because that’s how they choose to play, not because they need to. There are no excuses for Valverde this time, Barcelona have the best squad in the world and they’re desperate to win the Champions League. Time to deliver.

They really have a very strong squad this season. Effectively, they have improved their already decent team with Coutinho, Arthur, Vidal and Malcom in the CL and only really lost an aging Iniesta. I also didn't see the Messi dependence today. He was good but they also created many chances without him. Coutinho was gerat when he was subbed in, Suarez was also good and got many fouls. And Athur looks like he could really solve their midfield problems sinc ehe fits perfectly to Barca's traditional style of play.

I'd say Real's squad is more balanced since they don't really have any week spot while Barca's defense isn't all that great and their midfield is only absolutely world class if Coutinho adjusts well to the Iniesta role. But then they've got Messi which is probably the biggest asset you can have right now which places them just that tiny bit in front of anyone else. I wouldn't say they have to win the CL since this requires much luck and you can't force or guarantee (I mean even Guardiola's Barca won "only" two despite being arguably the best team in hstory) that but among all contenders, Valverde has probably the best resources to work with.

Why is this guy so obsessed with Barcelona and the CL? Every thread I see him in he's promoting this idea that barca have the greatest squad ever assembled and if they don't win the CL they're massive failures

Problem is Barca struggle to impose themselves in CL away games.

Look at their results in last two seasons in the competition.

Man. City 3-1 Barca

PSG 4-0 Barca

Juventus 3-0 Barca

Roma 3-0 Barca

Messi struggles to get into things away from Camp Nou.

That was my second comment on the subject...

Winning the Champions League is incredibly hard but after 3 disappointing campaigns where they haven’t even made the semifinals, there is obviously a lot of pressure on this team. Rightly so.

That doesn’t mean they’re failures if they don’t win it, but they actually need to look good enough to do it this time around.

I think if they can’t at least get to the semi finals Valverde will be fired regardless if they win the league

Man City and Liverpool are comfortably better teams. And I’m really liking how Madrid looks so far, much more cohesive
