Messi didn't start the league game against Sevilla. Once he was on the pitch with about 30 odd minutes to go, you could see that Sevilla players were nervous. Mind you Sevilla should have won that game much before as they had so many chances but they simply didn't score when it mattered.
Against Roma in the first leg, the scoreline 4-1 flattered Barcelona and for everyone who saw the match it was obvious that Barcelona needed physical presence in Paulinho in midfield. If I recollect, Valverde himself said that the scoreline flattered them and they were lucky. Yet in Rome, he did field the same starting 11 - mind you most of them played over the weekend with half fit Busquets.
Anyway, today Valverde and Don Andres's Barcelona won the Copa del Rey title for the 30th time. Congratulations to all Barcelona fans.
