La Liga - 2014/15

How long before Real get a pen then?
Hopefully only a matter of time. Defenders don't cope particularly well with the pace of Madrid counters, especially when isolated one on one with Madrid's pacey and skilful attackers and Rayo have been no different so they have to make the choice of whether to let Bale and co. through or foul them.

Commentator just said that Manucho has said he can match Ronaldo in goal scoring

What a fckin save from Cristian Álvarez! pushed Bale's ferocious volley onto the bar

Ronaldo has scored, set up two and provided a great pass for Kroos which allowed him to play the ball across goal for Bale to score. Not a bad haul for the evening.

The "pre-assist" for Kroos for the 1st goal and the dribble and cutback for Kroos' goal were impressive, the rest not so much considering the space Rayo are giving them.

The ball for Benzema was good too. Nothing special but it was in exact region where it should be. Benzema was offside which is different matter but those are the kind of balls across the goal which we don't see at United anymore from our wingers.

Bale had a poor game. He will have to pick his form up soon. His performances impressed me more last season than they have so far this season. Tbf to him he is being effective and is making the difference in the final third but he loses the ball constantly and his defensive work is not the best compared to other players in the team. More is expected and Isco has done better when he has played both going forward, defensively, in terms of controlling the game and making the right choices when there is no obvious play. Bale took his time to get going last season and maybe it will be the same again but I hope the team doesn't suffer as a result while playing him so he can find his level.

Really? I thought he was good. Better than Ronaldo and James at least.

Yeah well that's the point, for a player of his calibre a dangerous cross or shot should be the norm in that situation (meaning that he received the ball on the edge of the box completely unmarked because the fullback had tucked in, even at the point he hits the ball the nearest Rayo DF is at least 5m away). That also ties in with the point about his overall influence on games, his part in build-up etc. The pre-assist would be a great example of that, or the assist for Kroos, even if it wasn't a very hard pass, but because of the dribble that draws three DFs out of position opening space for Kroos to hit that marvellous shot. The assist for Benzema is less impressive than those two other actions to me because it was a fairly straight-forward hit and mostly because he receives the ball already in a very dangerous, open position.

The issue is that most people don't care about the process, just the result; so they'll use the cross/shot for Benzema as an example of him being creative or of his involvement in build-up play (because it's an assist) when it's in fact a terrible example of that and his pass for the 1st goal in the very same game, which is an actual decent example of intelligent build-up play, is glossed over (also not at all helped by the fact that tv replays usually omit what is often the most important part of a goal, ie. the build-up before the final ball).

He scored (like I said, making the difference in the final third) and hit a nice volley but I don't think his overall performance was the best (ie playing poor passes, losing the ball when attempting to take people on and not defending well) and I certainly don't think he did enough to take Isco's place in the next game although he probably will anyway to keep Perez happy. He is certainly better than what he has shown today but his performances even before injury were quite similar imo. I would feel much safer if Isco kept his place.

Yeah, the situation with Isco is a bit annoying. And to think that we don't even have Jese back...

how is Kroos doing? He was always a bit sluggish in the games that I watched.
Very well over the last month like the rest of the team and looks to have adapted quite well at the moment. He is also making a difference in the final third, scoring one goal and assisting seven. Him, Modric and Isco is a very fluid and hard working midfield and are controlling games very nicely at the moment as well as setting up plenty of counter-attacks by picking up the ball fast off a clearance and playing it forward quickly. The lack of steel in midfield due to having no specialist defensive player in there is being made up for by having every player work very hard defensively and by closing down and pressing from the front.

Real have now scored 42 goals in the league, wow! They are making it look so easy.

Valencia V Athletic ends in a goalless draw. Athletic really are finding their feet again, certainly worth a point or more. Negredo came on for the last 20 minutes, his longest game in months.

Vela! Getting his groove back, Kroos eat your heart out.. awesomely bended goal from a lot further out to equalise v Atléti... nice start to the game, missed the 1st goal unfortunately, can someone describe it? @jojojo
