Yeah, they have been extremely poor lately... and just looking at the unncessary rotation from Luis Enrique for this game it's no wonder. The backline changed again, the MF changed again... the biggest issue though is that they're not controlling games like they used to, because of Xavi's decline. Lucho's idea of how to replace Xavi's orchestrating skills is to just bypass the MF entirely and rely almost completely on the FW (ie. Messi) for chance creation now. In the first month they looked rejuvenated and energetic, pressing up high (just like under Tata Martino a year before, which was their best start to a season ever I believe?). Now that's already gone and they look too disorganised. But honestly even in that first month they were extremely flattered by the 0 goals conceded stat... they got lucky on a lot of occasions, and as soon as they met two top sides they shipped 3, now the floodgates are open. They also seem incapable of flying out of the starting blocks... have barely scored in 1st halves of games, let alone before the half hour mark.

This game is set up to be a carbon copy of last week v Celta... they already missed 1 sitter and conceded the goal. Only difference Neymar and Suárez on the bench.
 
Predictably, Luis Enrique brings on both Neymar and Suárez for Pedro and Munir at HT... what a clown :lol:
 
Soriano and Thievy bossing it when they get the ball (awesome assist that was for the goal as well). What a tackle on Rafinha just now from Soriano in his own box!
 
Xavi on for Busquets... all or nothing now.

Suárez hit the crossbar from about six yards out as well, getting ridiculous now their profligacy

Is that Neymar's goal or an own goal? Took a deflection from the initial shot then the defender booted it into his own net.

If the original effort from Neymar was on target it's his goal... Whoscored seems to be giving it, could yet change I guess (wasn't paying attention to the replay)

Yeh if it was just a deflection, but on my stream it looked like it took a deflection, was going in, but the defender then kicked it again trying to clear it (aeit into his own net)
 
How is that an own goal? When the defender tried to clear it, it was already past way beyond the goal line

Messi hits the bar with another header (again). That's about five times in the space of three La Liga games.
 
Messi's worst game of the season by far... nonetheless an excellent dribble at the end, but once again couldn't finish a relatively easy 1v1.
 
Curse of Zarra, seems like ages since he scored in the league.
 
Mascherano probably Barça's best player, Suárez also pretty good (still quite sloppy, but two excellent crosses for the goals) and Xavi's influence is just staggering at this point. They looked a completely transformed side when he came on, reminded me a bit of Messi in that 2nd leg v PSG a couple of seasons ago.
 
Been like that quite a lot over the past few seasons. He's clearly nowhere near the player he was but Barcelona look worse without him, too.

Think they're paying for overusing him, he's shown he's still got it when he's well rested. In the smaller games, at least.
 
About time they ditched Busquets for good now too. Never rated him, like Pique shined in a great side who rarely conceeded possession, never been a holding midfielder and it's absoloutley laughable people had the audaciety to say he's the best in his role.

Can't protect that defence for toffee. If they wish to keep a DM in the team they need to put Mascherano in there ASAP. Allow Rakitic more freedom in midfield and Xavi to control the midfield. Iniesta should be benched.

The lack of a midfield and defence is seriously going to waste that front three, in particular Suarez and Messi who should be in their prime right now.
 
The problem with moving Mascherano into holding midfield is that he's been, by a distance, their best centre back over the last few seasons. Busquets on form with Mascherano is obviously the best option, and I agree that right now he's better than Busquets in midfield, but what do they do at centre back then?

Nice ball by Ronaldo to find Kroos who played a great pass across goal to give Bale a relatively easy finish (although he had to use his great pace to get there).

I was thinking that it might have been a great tackle but looking at the replay it certainly looked like a foul which stopped what surely would have been a clear chance.

Yep, it was arguably a sending off that's why probably the coward gave nothing.
 
Madrid have been very lacklustre and sloppy in the final third. This has to be improved on to kill the game off. Rayo are definitely in this game and can get something from it. They are playing well.

Yeah, Rayo are giving us a game here. They're playing better than many of the teams we've played recently. ;)
 
As soon as I say that James almost scores a great goal and Benzema hits the crossbar. Hopefully Madrid are getting closer and can keep creating chances.
 
Rayo get back into it - 2-1 after a bad backpass by James leaves Madrid wide open.
