La Liga - 2012/2013

Was going through the table just now, and Barca has 95 goals in 30 matches!

Going on the same rate, they will end up with something of 120+!

The match of the weekend may have already happened :smirk:
Last night: Sevilla 3 Betis 3 - Sevilla 3 up after half an hour. Betis completed their comeback in the last minute.

Zaragoza (17th) should be easy meat for Barca, though I guess Barca's rested list may be quite long (and include Messi) which might make Zaragoza think they're in with a shout. They drew with Real Madrid a couple of weeks ago in a similar situation.

Athletic at home are capable of putting up a fight with Madrid, again with Madrid resting a few. Higuain and Kaka are injured. Ozil and Alonso will almost certainly be rested.

Sergio Garcia equalised with literally the last kick of the game (94th minute) to make it 3-3 in the Espanyol-Valencia match.

Some great games this Jornada so far. Great derby on Friday, Betis coming back from 3-0 down at home against Sevilla. Rakitic, Reyes and Negredo in top form atm! The latter on 18 league goals for the season now. Unfortunately for them it's the same song, their defensive players feckin' it up; Medel with an error leading to a goal + obligatory red card, eternal promise Fazio giving away a pen.

Then yesterday Depor's golden oldies bailing them out, with an hugely impressive 4-0 win at Levante (something not even the big boys have managed since they came back up). Valerón and Manuel Pablo combining for the opening goal, Valerón also with an assist at the end (his 8th of the season already). Form is temporary, etc.... Depor now with 4 wins in a row, and from dead bottom to 2pts off relegation.

Espanyol v Valencia was another insane game; Espanyol leading 2-1, turned over to 2-3 by a superb Banega, Jonás and Soldado (whose finishing let him down a couple of times), only for MotM Sergio García to equalise at the death. From minute 82 till the final whistle, 4 goals and a red card for a sub (which seems to happen a lot in Spain).

Which means that Málaga were the winners on Saturday, when they managed to beat Osasuna 1-0 right at the end thanks to Julío Baptista. Two of the cagiest defenses in La Liga up against one another, so I didn't expect much other than a low-scoring affair. To my surprise there were loads of quality attacking plays only thwarted by two excellent goalkeepers, Willy and Andrés Fernández (who would be my MotM, absolutely outstanding again).

However, La Real just don't seem to let up! Currently thrashing Rayo away, 2-0 up at HT, both goals by Agirretxe within 15 min. Which means they've virtually opened up a 4pt lead over Málaga and Valencia for 4th spot.

Still to come, the "big three", of whom I suspect Barça will struggle the most against a relegation-threatened Zaragoza away without some key players...

Was watching the first half of Rayo-Sociedad game just to watch Illaramendi and Griezmann that everyone's raving about. Rayo play some really nice football themselves. The top half of La Liga just play much better football than their English counterparts IMO.

Yeah, Rayo are having a great season themselves; but they are far too open to make it to European places IMO. Léo, Piti, Javi Fuego and Trashorras are all great players.

Vela, Xabi Prieto, Illaramendi and Carlos Martínez have been outstanding most of the season. Griezmann has ups and downs, the LB de la Bella has also had his moments.

Dunno about that tbh. Slower tempo in general to the game and lot of periods where nothing really is happening.

Depends on what you prefer watching.

Barca willing to make a game of it tonight, start with:
Valdés, Alves, Adriano, Bartra, Montoya, Xavi, Thiago, Song, Cesc, Alexis y Tello

After 31 games last year they had only 90 goals and ended the season with 114, so yeah I think 120+ could be possible, will be interesting to see if they can beat Reals 121 goals from last season.

Ronaldo free kick after 1 minute

49 goals in 48 games. 30 goals in 27 la liga starts...crazy.

great break by Madrid and Di Maria does all the tricky stuff before hitting the woodwork

Ronaldo going off before Athletic or the ref do him any serious damage.

So, with visions of the CL looming large and Barcelona with 7 games to get 9 points (worst case) for a mathematical Liga win, we can expect a couple of underpowered teams this weekend.

From the BBC so all times are UK.
Tonight - playing now

Home advantage should be enough to see Madrid and Barca win.

However, Alonso is suspended; Ramos is Madrid's only fit right back so he's going to be rested, so is Khedira. Ozil is unlikely to play the full game.

Meanwhile Messi and Busquets are back in normal training for Barcelona but I wouldn't expect to see them, same goes for Iniesta and a couple of others. Incidentally it looks like Puyol is definitely out for the Bayern Munich game.
