Kylian Mbappe | PSG

Only on the cafe could a player go from Ballon D'Or contender to England's back-ups are as good as him. Like

He had a terrible tournament. He won't reach Messi/Ronaldo levels, but he's still a fantastic player.

Tbf, there have always been people here who make claims that Rashford is at the very least as good (if not better) as Mbappe.

This thread feels like a massive overreaction. How many players haven't had poor international tournaments in their career? He is incredible, a top 10 player and missing a few chances in a last 16 game won't change that.

Also, why are people saying he needs to get away from Neymar because he's become too selfish on the pitch? The guy's one of the best players in the world and totally a team player.

Would Henry have developed the same if Wenger didn't take him from Juventus and nurture his talent?
I personally doubt it. Wenger returned him to his striker roots and polished him. Other managers were insisting on using him as a proper winger. His career changed in a similar fashion to Schweinstieger when LVG switched from winger back to CM. Wenger found the best role for his skill set

There are also people here who think the earth is flat. They are wrong as well.

Good decision from him.

If he wants the best player one day, he needs to leave the French League.

Mbappe is an amazing player who had a shocking tournament.

I think that saying he is an amazing player is incredibly premature. He played very, very well for 3 games at a world cup and has had some very good games (and some very poor games) in the Champions League whilst scoring a lot of goals in a league that is a level below the most competitive divisions. He has a lot of talent but this got overblown very quickly due to him being very young, performing very well in a world cup and getting a huge transfer in a crazy summer. He may be great, he still has quite a bit to prove by doing it every week at the highest level.

Because he didn't sign for Ancelotti but Lippi, there is an anecdote that answers your initial question. Henry said that Lippi intended to play him as a striker, like Wenger did but that Ancelotti joined Juventus in February and only played him as a traditional wide player. Ancelotti said that it was one of his biggest regrets.
By the way, Ancelotti did the same number on Zola when he came in to coach Parma in summer '96.
Zola was already 30 but he would've never left Parma if Ancelotti didn't tell him he was a square peg for a round hole in his system and started playing him on the left midfield in a 442, making the sardinian run away screaming in the autumn transfer window.

Carlo was such a square manager at the start of his career, he did evolve a lot by the time he joined Milan.

Anyway, Zola to Chelsea and Henry to Arsenal, quite a service to Premier League audience he did =)

Exactly, either Neymar or Mbappe being called selfish is hilarious.
Yes their off the field politics is another matter.

Didnt Al Khelaifi say that Mbappe is not leaving PSG on a free ever or something along those lines. Hes going to try to make his life really difficult over the next year

If Mbappe isn't an amazing player then not a single English,Spanish,German or Italian player currently active qualifies as such.

I'd say he's almost guaranteed to end up at Real, it's long known to be his dream (ala his ideal Ronaldo) and they have a vacancy on the wings. It would be a good fit too, the core of Real is still young and I can see him doing very well there.

He probably knows that spending his peak years in the French league isn't great for his development. Ronaldo at the same age was on his way to having a Balloon D'or winning season with United.

Surely PSG won't let him go for free, who will sign him this summer then? Real Madrid would be his first choice, but could they afford him?
I’m not sure they have much of a choice.

they are one club that can afford to let him run down the contract, even though it’s going to be bitter.

if Mbappe only wants Real - and that means obviously his agent has spoken to the club, how much could they realistically get for him from Real this summer? £30/40m?

which will just make his decision more rapidly...

Truth be told. It's the only way Mbappe can leave PSG. No one can afford him other wise. For it's not like PSG would accept to insert a reachable buy out clause in his contract.

No way. Would likely still be around €100-150M. Hazard went for €150 despite having 1 year left on his deal too.

pre Covid, and now Real have no money. Completely different market/ different situation.

not a chance any club is going anywhere near him at €100m.

he can sign an agreement with Real in 6 months time.

It's not that simple. In 6 months you will have more competition for his signature, unless his father tells everyone that he is only considering a particular club every club that can afford it will see 100m as a good way to avoid an auction in January. What you are suggesting is only true if there is only one possible destination.

I agree with that to an extent. But firstly, I would suggest at this stage he knows his destination. Secondly, who could even afford a €100-150m transfer this summer?

granted not many players run down their contracts, and if it wasn’t for Covid, I’m certain he would be off to Spain for +€100m, but they simply don’t have the money for that type of transfer, which is why is pretty likely he’s going to leave as a free agent.

Mbappe leaving free is the most lucrative for him. He will get 70M signing on Fee net + high wages.

It's a dream financially for him, imagine getting 70M net signing on fee in his bank account

Martial plus cash.
That would actually be a really decent deal for them.

I think he obviously walks for free to Madrid or they sign him for way less - but with a bit of smart negotiating we could get rid of James/Martial and sign Mbappe.

Rashford/Mbappe/Greenwood/Sancho/Mbappe would be a hell of an attack.

Well the thing about contracts is that if it runs down, you don't have to show up to work anymore and there's nothing your employer can do about it. They also can't force you to sign something you don't want to. It sounds like this Al Khelafi fella isn't familiar with people having freewill

There is next to no chance that he knows his destination, he may have a list of clubs that he will listen to closely but the definitive destination is highly unlikely because it relies on what is actually on the table. And all wealthy clubs(Barcelona excluded) can afford 100m-150m this summer or any summer, the financing isn't an issue the question is whether a club believe that Mbappé is worth it, so the question is which club believe that signing Mbappé isn't worth 100m-150m? The other question is whether PSG will sell him at all.

Every club does that with their most prized asset and it isn't only AlKehlaifi. Usually they threaten to bench a player or put him in the under 23's for a year and a player doesn't want to do that and signs a contract instead. That's what I was getting at. Is PSG just going to banish him to the U23's until he signs a contract? Otherwise they lose the £150 mil investment for nothing

Yeh for sure. It's kinda like when we pay stupid insanely high wages to average player which means buying clubs can't afford them and the player stays. Except PSG has done this with a stupid transfer fee for £150mil+ that no one else can exceed or even match bar Man City. So no one can buy him unless he devalues his stock by running down the contract

He was talking about PSG and Mbappé's camp being in the middle of a contract negotiation and that things were going well. I get that people always want to make dubious comments when it comes to people from the gulf but come on.

Let’s agree to disagree.

I would be astonished if anyone pays €100-150m for him this summer.

I didn't make a prediction on what is going to happen this summer but simply answered your question about who can afford it.
