Kylian Mbappe | Merci.

Its the best club in europe to join if you want to win the CL (unfortuntely).

Its run extremely well and they pretty much get the players they want eventually.

Run well as the club might be, no, the galactico-era is well and truly over, we are just another top club competing on the market now.
Getting anyone we want is a thing of the past, RM can compete well, of course, but times have changed, lets be real.

Yeah I don’t get the whole ‘he wants Madrid’ thing. It was mostly the club twerking for him but he rejected RM time and time again. If he really wanted, he would be there already.
He didnt want to go to Madrid from Monaco, as he would have been seen as a replacement for a outgoing Ronaldo (left for juventus) and it was deemed more sensible by his team to stay in france and sign for PSG.

He wants the biggest prizes in club football i.e. CL and balon dor. There is nowhere better to go to achieve those goals than Real Madrid.

Times have changed, so has Madrids strategy for recruitment. Instead of buying players in their prime and paying top dollar for them, its now about finding the very best talent at a much younger age.

Financially only City and PSG could blow Madrid out of the water with a financial pacakage. But Madrid have 14 CL in their trophy cabinet and the weather and lifestyle that appeals to many players.

Ronaldo left for Juventus a year later. Main concern for Mbappé in 2017 seemed to be a guaranteed starter.

So many people still believe Real Madrid is the perfect club to win CL despite this year's final got nothing to do with them, the power has shifted to Blue ketchup slurpers and they are in a massive rebuild marked by the departure of Benzema and arrival of Bellingham to refresh their midfield. Did you forget how they won CL after Ronaldo left? that's right. Benzema was the difference. They no longer have him and to expect someone to come in and replicate his stature there is kinda silly unless if that person is Haaland. Pretty sure Mbappe is well aware of this.

And that’s the reason they lost Ronaldo just after he’d helped them win a 3’d CL in row… Because they wouldn’t pay him more than what was economically viable. Barça ruined themselves with Messi’s contract and learned a hard lesson(Messi was getting 150M/year, that was eating up almost half Barcelona’s wage bill). I don’t think any normal club -no matter how big and rich it is- functioning within the market's logic can afford Mbappé without sacrificing too many important positions and ultimately weakening their side.

He'd have been an instant starter on the right with Bale and Vasquez being inconsistant.

Not only Benzema, Modric/Kroos/Casemiro were still great, that's a VERY tough midfield to replace, even with talented youngsters. Real Madrid has a lot of work ahead even it it's obviously doable to be competitive with their roster.

Well, it was Benzema converting anything that moved in the opposition box, Courtois saving things left and right on the other end, he even beat Petr Cechs record for most saves, that takes some doing.

Not saying Courtois in peak form alone is enough, of course not, just that we had the best luck on both ends.

It wasn't really the midfield, but they of course had their moments, if i had to pick just one player after Benzema, its Courtois.

Big gamble to bet on definitively relegating Bale to the bench coming out of his (impressive for sure) first six months of pro football. No doubt there would have been some sort of rotation.
Being a no questions asked starter was much safer and obvious at PSG.

Utd won the treble and then didn’t reach the CL final for almost a decade, the closest thing to a certainty in the CL is Madrid

Utd won the treble and then didn’t reach the CL final for almost a decade, the only certainty in the CL is Madrid

Yeah, speaking of "certainty", we went about 10 years without a UCL final as well, not only that, we became R16 merchants for about 6 years or so during that time, nobody remembers that now, it seems.

Nothing is certain, clubs have their bad spells and their good spells.

Bellingham and Mbappe, unreal window from real madrid. Makes them instant favourite for UCL.

Nothing is certain, clubs have their bad spells and their good spells.

Currently both Madrid and City seems to be certainties.

Over the last 3 CLs (21-23) both clubs reached the semifinal 3 times over these 3 years. No other club reached the semifinal twice in this 3 years cycle. And very surprisingly, Bayern (the 3’d best team in UEFA’s ranking over this period) hasn’t reached it once.

MadridXtra. Definitely an unbiased no-agenda source.

MadridXtra is not the source, it's Romain Molina.

They way MadridXtra or MadridZone work is by collecting pieces of news related to Real Madrid. Merely the messenger, not the origin of the information.

You can say a pattern emerges with 3, but i would extend it further, you can get lucky sometimes, this season, we faced a shit Liverpool-side, Chelsea's meme-team, before getting destroyed by a much better City-side.

Given what we lack next season(unless adressed), i don't think we are getting to the semi's.

You cannot possibly know that.

And inconsistent or not, Bale was still a massive player and Mbappe a newbie. Plus Isco enters into the equation.

Agreed.

Real Madrid didn't work properly at the beginning of the 2017/2018 season, Zidane was alternating between various systems, various players (Bale, Asensio, Isco, Vazquez) with little success. I have no doubt he would have been a starter.

With Mbappe and Bellingham, I will consider real as the favorites to win it again.

Other than the fact that Mbappe 100% isn't joining this summer, who needs width anyway?

Who knows, or the competitors would have worked harder to ensure not to be relegated to a bench warmer role.

But even if we accept your scenario as valid, what would have happened had Mbappe signed for Real Madrid is not really relevant.

What the player thought his role was going to be like in one club and the other is the important matter here and one that had definite weight on him deciding his final destination.

Anyone who wouldn't take him at United is insane. And yes, that's with the baggage and the diva tendencies. I also say this as someone who detested the idea of bringing back Ronaldo.

So you know there's a load of baggage
A load of diva tendencies
You surely know that the likes of Rashford, Garnacho etc will suffer
It's possible the manager doesn't even want him
You know that we'll probably have to break any semblance of wage structure to get him
You know we'll have to pay an astranomical fee on what is already a very tight FFP budget
Will likely want to go to Real Madrid in a matter of a few seasons

We could build a great team under Ten Hag and it's fascinating to me that a load of people on this forum want to throw that opportunity away for a shiny toy, just like Woodward would have done. Mbappe is the kind of player that is a cherry on top of a really good squad. We're still playing Fred, McTominay, De Gea, Martial and more with the most threadbare bench imaginable but lets just blow all our summer on Mbappe, I don't care how good he is he won't change this entire team, he won't make us win the Premier League next season and he certainly won't help ETH transform this entire team and squad into the one he wants that can play the football he wants.

But i'm the insane one?

He's the best player in the world, who is still only 24 (!), and would instantly transform us into a force again. Why would Rashford and Garnacho "suffer"? He's not toxic, just high maintenance. And if he wants to leave for Real in a couple seasons or so, we'll get a record fee for him.

I'd rather get two-three seasons out of him than nothing, and I'm tired of watching our rivals win titles while we're miserable to watch. If you have an opportunity to get him, given where we've been for a decade now, you do it without any hesitation.

Yeah he is very much like Haaland going to City when you already have enough squad depth and looking to sprinkle a bit of magic on top

So Mbappe comes into the team, as you say he's the best player in the world, and he's 24, so presumably he will play every game and he plays predominantly on the left. His qualities don't lend itself to the the type of number 9 ETH typically likes to play in his system so he'll stay left, Rashford then has to come into the number 9 but he's only been played there this season out of necessity cause again he's not the typical 9 that ETH likes to play in his system, so he's out of position and he's not going to displace Mbappe, neither is Garnacho so Garnacho doesn't get a lookin either.

Our rivals win titles whilst we are miserable to watch because they have a great squad from top to bottom, where as our squad is mostly full of shit still, I swear none of you know how football even works, you seem to think signing Mbappe will just magically transform our entire team and all of a sudden we'll start playing this amazing magical football that ETH wants us to play. How about instead we get the players and the squad the recruitment team and manager want, get us playing the great football ETH is known for, get us competing with a fully realised squad, elevate our current good players and new players to elite heights and THEN we can think about adding players like Mbappe as a cherry on top.

Again, chasing galactico signings when we've not even fixed the basics yet, signing Mbappe won't stop our keeper from making mistakes and kicking like shit, It won't nullify our complete lack of midfield presence, it won't fix our lack of traditional number 9's, it won't change the fact our RB options are decent at best, it won't change the fact we have 1 decent backup CB, it won't change the fact our subs bench was primarily an 18 year old kid and Wout Weghorst in the FA Cup final to win us the game. I could go on and on

It's like none of you have learned anything over the last 10+ years, we're in this mess because Woodward and the Glazers prioritised stupid signings like Mbappe instead of prioritising building an elite squad that enables us to compete against everyone on all fronts and can carry out the type of football the manager wants us to play. If you can't see this then you have deserved to watch our rivals claim titles and you deserve to see more of it, cause it will happen if we don't get a squad. Our first decent season in a long while with potential to build on it and instead we should spent our whole summer budget on Mbappe.

Man City works because they have a terrific squad they keep building on topped off with players like Haaland that are the cherry on top. You want us to keep playing with Fred, McTominay, De Gea, Maguire etc and then throw in Mbappe and bar Mbappe making speedy runs and goals you'll be left scratching your head wondering why we still play like shit and howcome Mbappe hasn't magically transformed us!?

Mbappe not making a difference as he scores 50 goals for us is a new one, I must admit.

I hope we sign him and nobody else this summer just so people like you might finally admit that maybe it would be better for us to make a competent squad instead of targetting stupid galactico signings every season, i’m sure one year very soon you’ll start to clock on.

Wouldn't be surprised if his desire to move is triggered by Haaland getting a lot more attention over the last year. If Qatar takes us over, I'd bet on Mbappe joining us since it could recreate a rivalry similar to Messi-Ronaldo of the 2010s. This could boost his profile significantly.

Would agree if Real didn't have such a long standing interest but that is the crucial factor

I say we at least send a cheeky bid in. Even if we don't succeed, it would force Madrid into a bidding war and eat up a portion of their other transfers. A bit payback for when they snatched prime Ronaldo from us.

Need Jassim to win the bid first

Mbappe and Rashford can play together completely fine, not sure where the notion comes that they can't coexist. Mbappe can play forward and left, and has played right in the past as well. Garnacho is screwed regardless because the club's best attacking player has his position, unless Garnacho can be converted into a right winger.

If we're getting Mbappe, its because we have Qatari owners. Why are we assuming that the club can't make any more signings? FFP exists but we have a number of outgoing players this summer.

I think you're being incredibly naive here, underestimating the positive impact Mbappe would have here. We haven't had anyone as good as him since the version of Ronaldo we sold to Real over a decade ago.
