Kylian Mbappé | Real Madrid watch

And to be clear, who are you saying was like Mbappe that played with Muller?
Players like Ribery, Robben, Lewandowski and the various forwards Bayern have had over the years. Muller was only Bundesliga team of the season twice despite Bayern nearly always winning the league, there was always more important players - Lewandowski made it 8 straight years for example.

I don't think it's that simple, Muller gets less criticism when he plays badly because he worked harder and is less selfish. Mbappe does 1 thing for his team, goals. If he's not doing that he's not doing anything of benefit (within reason), that is not true with a player like Muller.

Muller it's ten times more intelligent than Mbappe, he is a great player with a carreer that more talented players should had and wished had.

Yet to make an example with another player in his prime: Diego Milito in 2010, there is a reason why he would never sit beside Messi, nor live any remotely the type of pressure Lionel had to endure even till today and why also sadly he was very unfair treated when he didn't even got into the 30 best players that year for the Ballon D Or (the real big miss of that award that year). Milito even in his best year, winning everything, being excellent and clutch he operated in very different scale of expectations.

I'll give just little sample of what I mean.

No one remembers that miss from Andrés and he had quite a number of others similar misses (we all are going to remember his goal versus Chelsea and Holland), as had Xavi and even Lucho that lived for goals. Some Juve fan will remember Buffon's saved, but the title after the match if Barca is defetead and Messi doesn't score is: Messi did nothing, even if just that assist is beyond excellent.

On the other hand, of course sometimes when Barca wins, everything was about Messi, that isn't true either, but it's an entirely diff world some players live in. And mostly it's because of the atributes and type of player some players belong, that is quite different of those with the atributes of a Muller, a Diego Milito or even trully special lads Iniesta.

PD: I'm not saying that Mbappe is as talented as Messi, or Pele, or anything like that, but he is the type of player whose atributes would put him in the Upper echelon and people would lay their eyes on them with a microscope, for the good and for the bad, it's a world of hyperboles.

I wouldn't say any of them were like Mbappe, they all added different things to their teams, not just goals, and teams were not built around them. It's very different.

I think that's partly down to him though. He's criticised because he acts like he is Messi/Ronaldo or similar, and that attitude will always be met with criticism when he plays like he does.

It's a good example you have, and yes like for example, Mbappé went to Camp Nou in 2021 in the CL knockouts and scored a hat-trick at that point the first away player to do that in 24 years, one of the best performances by a forward in a one-off game I've seen. If Muller played like that, it would be remembered at the end of his career, but nobody even mentions this game for Mbappé because it was expected. He's also been let down by team-mates at PSG, like he was brilliant against Real Madrid in both legs in 21/22 I thought, but then Donnarumma kicks a ball against Benzema and Marquinhos collapses and they lose. There's nothing he can do about that. He has higher expectations than Muller because he is more talented than Muller.

Because he's been one of the best players in the world for many years. His Ballon d'Or placings since he was 19: 6th, 3rd, 6th, 9th, 6th, 4th, 7th. Yes there's always some hype with the Ballon d'Or but also he has clearly been one of the best forwards in the world for most of his career.

He has been spoiled too much and he didn't correct many flaws in his game prior to arrive to Madrid, therefore those were expected to be shown like it's happening now.

Yet, if Madrid has patience, if he works out his deficiencies, if he becomes more humble and with a tad of luck.
He can be huge in Madrid, it's too early to put a nail in his coffin, mostly because we shouldn't even be alow to talk about coffins.

There is certainly an overreaction that like I've said before, Kiki's traits and things to improve aside, it's typical of the expectations this type of players have to deal with.

They still need to sort out their imbalance problems with their lineup and get a new top midfielder.
