People are being (unsurprisingly) naive here, eventually the fans pay for it all. If it wasn't for City artificially hiking wages we'd never have had to pay Rooney £250,000 a week.

Mendes, Raiola and all the other sleazeballs are loving this.

I fear Uefa's ineptitude and immorality have been allowed to fester long enough, in terms of a long term business strategy it surely makes sense for clubs like United, Real, Barca and Bayern to form their own Euro league.

I hope they do that and I hope they have the sense not to invite clubs like PSG and City.

Yes that's something his agent will have to deal with in the contract.

Considering the figures in the contract, I'm sure they'll agree to what PSG wants. PSG don't give those fat bonuses for agents, fathers, and players for nothing. They do it to have the contracts they want with the player.

I'm telling you I've yet to see PSG being pressured to do something. Mbappe won't be able to either. They have so much money that if a player misbehaves they can afford to bench him until he gets to his senses. Regular clubs don't have this power because they can't absorb such a loss.

Maybe they won't, but if in 5 years he does decide he wants to leave then there's nothing they can do about it, pressure or not.

I think it's a good move for the player personally. He's only 18 years old and has had just one good season. A move to the PL or La Liga might be too much for him. This way he can continue his development in the same country and move to a better league after 4-5 years.

He could have done that by staying at Monaco aswell...

We'll see, but if Mbappe wants to go to Madrid, he shouldn't go to PSG first. It's an odd move. Madrid want him now anyway.

Yeah that's something I thought as well. I guess he'd rather be at the team that is investing more and looks like winning trophies. Also, better wages always help.

I don't necessarily think he does, but it would be odd to move to PSG at 18 and never venture outside of the French league. I can see him banging them in for 4-5 years and at 22-23 wanting to test himself in a harder league.

My god if this deal to psg actually is true and happens, football is gone to a level where I actually kind of don't like it. 400m on two players in a month :( I know city spend but but at least it 200m on 4 or 5 players. After all the dreaming of getting back into champions league , I am actually not really pushed about it. It's a little tainted now. I always was not with real and Barca antics. But psg are a whole new level. Football is out of touch with normal society.

Its ridiculous but synonymous with any capitalist system. Google makes an acquisition every two weeks, only 10 companies control almost every large food and beverage brand in the world....and on an on. What's the difference. The rich buy out everything to the point that no one else can compete. No rules and regulations will stop them. They will just find a way around it. Only way United will be able to compete is if we get a sugar daddy of our own.

I know what you mean. We really don't want top level football to become an oil sheikh's plaything.

I really don't understand how PSG are allowed to do this and how it's not seriously investigated.

They literally have a country backing them. 400m on 2 players? You can't even do that in football manager.

I've always thought football transfers were bound by market forces. £1m for Trevor Francis 30 years ago was no less staggering than say £75m for Lukaku today but PSG have changed all the rules if they are indeed about to take their spending in less than a fortnight to £500m. It is, officially, getting stupid and it would be wonderful to draw them in the CL nd give them a spanking (although I'm not sure we would)

That's probably what Verratti thought...

Could we see the biggest european clubs moving away and forming their own competition? If it continues and the likes of United, Real, Barca, Bayern simply can't compete?

I feel like a dick saying it, but I hope he flops at PSG. Hard. I think it would not only be a nice kick in the balls for their owners, but it might just force some common sense upon the transfer market.

Neymar for 222 million euros is one thing, but he is as sure a bet as is possible. Spending 180m euros on a player who has had one good season is absurd, no matter his potential.

Who says they can't?

For one, it remains to be seen whether PSG can comply with FFP after this. If they do, that would prove that madrid, barcelona, united and bayern at the very least could have pulled it off as well. If they don't, they're likely to be banned from CL in 18/19

Spanish media reporting l'equipe today claims his salary at PSG will be €18M a year after tax

Any l'equipe reader who can confirm? If true, congratulations and good luck to him. He'll be the 4th highest paid player in the world, at 18

This is on 2 premises.

- PSG can't 'trick' UEFA and their FFP rules.
- UEFA is not corrupted.

If any of those two is false, then PSG will likely get away with it.

Suddenly felt like Pogba was a bargain. Lucky we bought him.......Had we not bought him for 100M last summer.........

Plus, if Dembele is worth 130M and Sigurdson is worth 50M, Griezmann's buyout clause of 100M this coming Jan/Summer is like peanut !

I think Neymar/Mbappe saga has definitely increased the chance of us signing Griezmann, if he choose us over rivals IMO

Sorry slightly off topic but the world has turned upside down jeez

What are you suggesting?

Yeah. Both of those will be helpful to PSG really. They'll magically acquire some new 'legitimate sources of income' which UEFA will 'investigate' and find to be absolutely fine.

Nothing. We'll just have to show them that money isn't everything. Barca already did show them that by beating them 6-1 and making them the embarrassment of Europe. It's going to be harder as they will improve by spending crazy sums, but I will always support the traditional clubs against oil clubs from Qatar with the temporary residence in Paris.

Galactico policies can't really do all the work. You still have to know how to build a football team. Hopefully, PSG will never learn until they stop abusing the market in this way. It is also pretty difficult to build a team full of stars. Not as easy as it sounds.

And no amount of lazy reporting will convince them to sell to PSG.

That is exactly the same kind of comment which was repeatedly written, by many posters in the Neymar to PSG thread.
PSG are being ruthless in the transfer market. They clearly have the intent and have found a loop hole with regards to financial rules, allowing them to buy very expensive players.
If anybody can get Mbappe, it's PSG.

You need to talk to Monaco

They are quoted saying they will not sell Mbappe to PSG. And its still a long way off done. Expect Real to be back in on this before long.

I said if they can't.

And yes, we will see what happens with FFP.

Super League

I read some where the 220m Neymar's people paid to Barca to buyout his contract never came from PSGs as accounts. That is came from the 300m deal he struck with Qatar to be their world cup ambassador. Meaning in that case they can easily afford Mbappe....
Al Khelaifi rubbished that rumor, and even if it were true UEFA would still count it against FFP

a) that's untrue and b) that wouldn't change the discussion because it would be an obvious move to circumvent the rules and would warrant an investigation.

I am putting my vote on the "something needs to happen, won't someone think of the children" category. Spending that money on two players is absurd.

I can understand the Neymar one to a certain extent but this one makes no sense, he's done nothing to warrant any club to spend stupid money on him.

I'm officially pro Super League. How would it work though?
