Lots of rumour flying we are interested in this guy, looks a midfield enforcer to me but how good is he is open to debate.

Dont know him, can only comment on the video but his passing looks iffy and I dont see anything there that puts him above the likes of Muntari.

Not the type of player I want us seeing being linked with tbh, cant we sign someone like Messi instead? :(

I read an article on him last year that he was the real driving force behind Udinese's 4th place finish (more so than Sanchez, Inler, Isla & Di Natale etc)

Can't seem to find the article again though, but if that is true, sign him up.

Seeing as both Inler and Sanchez have gone and they look set to finish even higher this season, there must be someone else who's very good in that side indeed. Apart from the machine that is Di Natale.

Asamoah? Rated highly at one point and sounds like one of the types of midfielder we need (we need two). At the price quoted I wouldn't mind.

Have only seen him a handful of times, seems a good player who'd complement the rest of our midfielders well.

Worth mentioning he can play centrally OR wide left. Different sort of player than most we've looked at.

He seems in line with our price range and the fact no one else seems interested. I've seen him a few times, he's ok.

Pretty similar types of players aren't they?

No Strootman is currently plays a deeplying playmaker role for PSV with not as much combativeness needed, Asamoah is normally employed as more combative CM type(similar to Tiote) with not as much creativity being asked for.

The billing in the press of Strootman as the "new Roy keane" isn't quite correct(Roy could be creative). Asamoah is probably closer in style to Keane than Strootman is.

Ah, I'd gotten the wrong impression of Strootman then. I wouldn't compare Asamoah to Tiote though (that's racist), if you want to compare him to someone I'd say he plays essentially the way we want Anderson to. Somewhere between Anderson and Fletcher. Advances the play with strong running and positive passing but has the discipline and awareness in defence when needed. I watched a lot of Udinese last year and he was never anything like a defensive midfielder. They never played with an out-and-out destroyer like Tiote but Inler was the one who played as the holding midfielder, and since he moved on that's the role Pinzi plays.

Would you say he's something like an Essien or a Yaya Toure then? Not as in is he as good as them, but tn the way that both seem to be box-to-box type of players who don't just sit in defence?

Let's just say he's like Fletch so not to be racist.

My recollection from the World Cup was that he had uncommon discipline and maturity for his tender years. He is a player who keeps it simple, chooses the short pass and keeps possession.

When the US played Ghana it was impossible for the US to get sight of the ball once Ghana went up a goal. Asamoah bossed our (The USA) midfield in that match and took Ghana to the quarterfinals.

If someone compares a person of similar creed/nationality/colour they are being racist!:wenger: Are you not being racist by saying this? Where does it all stop!! Lets keep it football orientated!

It was a joke. Surely you've been on here long enough to know 'that's racist'. It is amusing that the majority of the time black players are only compared to black players and white players are only compared to white players, for whatever reason.

Hi, still in the newbs, so maybe you could forward this to the mains ?

I wwas watching a Serie A round up show today, and Asamoah was mentioned.
One of his team mates (I didn't catch his name, sorry), was asked who is the most improved and hardest worker in training. The player replied "Asamoah" "No doubt will he go on to play for a bigger team" "He does the simple things soo good, and never has a bad game, he is very consistent"

Something along those lines.

By taking his team mates word, he would seem a decent backup for Carrick. I haven't watched him play, but only caught part of the interview with one of the Udinese players.

Anyway, I thought it might be a bit of news for the muppets in the mains !

got this pm last night, just throwing it out here

Udinese playing on ESPN at the minute. Looks a neat and tidy midfielder without looking spectacular. Playing left side in a midfield 3 by the looks of it.

I would guess Scholes signing on for another year rules out signing him this summer. With Cleverley and Anderson back (and possibly Fletcher), there's no room for him.

That's the whole problem. We're still counting on a 38 year old, an injury prone player (Anderson, jury still out on Cleverley) and Fletcher with his illness? It's a recipe for disaster.

Fergie isn't stupid. He knows what he's doing and I'm sure he's perfectly capable of counting how many midfielders we have available. Stop worrying.

Why should I stop worrying? I've been calling for midfield reinforcements for two years now and nothing happened, while we continue to suffer greatly because of that. Fergie may have his reasons, he may count on some youngsters, he might have put his faith in Anderson and Cleverley and Fletcher's return, but it ended up badly. Scholes's comeback has been magical, but the fact we ended up needing him so much doesn't reflect too well on our midfield.

The bottom line is Fletcher is not available. And Anderson can be avaibale one day and gone for three months the next. It's happened time and time again. He can't be counted on.

It might be, but relying on this guy wouldnt have been much better
