Klopp Confirmed Liverpool Manager

Klopp's an excellent manager and is a very likeable character - I very much wanted him for the United job after Van Gaal and I'm extremely disappointed he's going to manage Liverpool instead. Nothing much more to say about it. Ridiculous to try and suggest otherwise about his ability.

The only saving grace is that I have doubts that Liverpool as a club can deliver what he needs to be truly successful but we'll see.

Who's to say he won't manage us later on. Stranger things have happened but by then, he'll be a hate figure in the red half of Manchester.

Depends on the money Liverpool has to spend. Götze is on a high wage and his transfer sum would not be low.

Coutinho might leave at the end of the season, which would free up some money.

Do you think Klopp would target the German market for players? I'd like to see more Germans in the PL.

Agreed. But only if he disappoints (again) this season. If he plays like he does at the moment -- which is still not up to what I think he is capable of -- then rather not. Unless the amount offered is surreal.

Quite a bit at that, as he's contracted until 2020.

I'm pretty sure he will. It would be only natural to source where you have the best expertise.

Klopp is a great appointment. There's seriously no way to convince yourselves otherwise.

Track record of success + exciting football + ability to build teams + charismatic + ability to spot players + ability to motivate players.

He's absolutely brilliant. Liverpool will be getting one of the top managers in world football.

That's why we must live in hope that he catches whatever disease of the mind has caused the last few Liverpool managers to descend into madness while on the job.

As a United fan, I love this appointment cause there's absolutely no way he's going to fail right? Absolutely no way.

I hope he fails miserably and ends up back in Germany with his tail between his legs.

I still find it hard to believe he wants that job. Hard to believe he will be given more dough considering the hundreds of millions that Rodgers spunked on averageness.

He'll fail spectacularly with those average players. It's bonkers he even took up a Liverpool job.

As good an option Liverpool can get from the available managers out there at the moment. I still doubt he'll lead Liverpool to greatness or anything, England is a different playing field to Germany. Might do better in europe but god, 6th for them would be even more unbearable than they are now. I suspect he'll have very much a Rafa time with them, be in the mix at the top and challenge for a year or two while he's there. Eventually go downhill at some point and leave like he did with previous clubs. The troublesome bit being he's likely to leave Liverpool to the next manager in a much better state than Rafa did.

I am not sure he will bring any (or many) of his former players to Liverpool. Not Reus, Goetze, Hummels etc anyway. Not sure they'd be too interested in a move to Liverpool. Will be fascinating to see what he can do with the current team though.

it's all done then :(

there's a chance he can fail based on my judgment of 14/15 season and I hope he fails. but nevertheless no denying liverpool got a really good manager, who can actually win trophies at that.

I have a better idea. Keep Gotze and sell us Muller. We obviously have a better working relationship than Bayern and Liverpool

A great move for Liverpool, they will have gotten themselves a great young manager. However, I don't understand Klopp's motivation here. Unless this is the height of his ambition and Liverpool is his dream job. If Klopp has ambition to manage at an elite club, and I think he has done enough to put himself in the picture, than managing Liverpool is a risk he dosen't have to take.

Three years from now after three Europa League finishes, Klopp will have lost most of the credit he built up at Dormund. Managing Liverpool in this day and age while not a career killer, will certainly stall your career. Unless he wins the Premier or Champions League in next few years, his stock with the elite clubs will fall. To me the risks far outway the rewards for Klopp and I think he will come to regret it.

Have a feeling he's a romantic. Other than him being manager of Liverpool, I hope he fails.

@KGBhoy
Thanks for pointing to Klopp's attempts to adjust his game. He tried this indeed, actually even during the last matches in the previous season 13/14.
Another point to note is that when Reus got injured early on, Shinji came back (before 3rd match day) and was requested to deliver instantly; Klopp stated once that he went mostly back to tactics Shinji was used to, hoping to make it easier for him to slot in.
Our little Japanese, however, wasn't fully fit, not just in terms of stamina but he was in pains when shooting; but he didn't dare to tell Klopp until November when the descend in the table had almost hit rock bottom and the self esteem of the team was rather low.

Oh, he definitely is, and everybody who had followed him over the years shouldn't be surprised about it one single bit. Don't know how often Bundesliga-following users have repeated on the Caf over the last years that Klopp's main motivation isn't money. It feels like a gazillion times. :)

As mentioned some pages earlier, I would expect him to try again some signings he wasn't able to do at Dortmund as those youngsters wanted more game time than he was able to offer them, like Julian Brandt or Leon Goretzka.

As for Dortmund players potentially following him, the only one I could see open for this is Neven Subotic. He and Klopp have been very close for years, and Neven was very open that one day, he'd like to play in the EPL. He hasn't reached his best after his long injury though and therefore it's unclear if Klopp trusts him enough to bring him on board.

John Cross, the only Arsenal fan that makes Piers Morgan look decent, wants everyone to remember Klopp didnt re-invent the wheel and is not that special - and that Danny Murphy said it's a gamble.

That's a shocking article imo.

Agree with most of this, although I think he has a good chance of competing for top 4 - just as Rodgers did. And it may be worth noting that Rodgers himself was a young manager growing his reputation - not yet arrived - with many admirers not least those on the caf. And after coming closer to the title than any other manager in 20? 25? years he now sits on the scrap heap with a dunce cap on while everyone mocks him mercilessly.

A graveyard for many a good manager and until they recieve the reality check over there that big club Liverpool are operating in an era of super power clubs then there is always the risk that a large bite could be taken out of Klopp's hard won reputation. But as has been mentioned he seems to be a man drawn to the mythical.

My bingo card is quite large. I'll take the bolded sound bites from above and add the following to the mix:
  • Attacking football
  • Attractive football
  • Vibrant football
  • Fast, pacey football
  • Hunt for the ball
  • Emotions; emotional
  • Playing with passion
  • Passionate fans
  • Fantastic stadium; fantastic atmosphere
  • Goosebumps
  • Can't believe he's at prestigious Anfield now
  • Honored and thankful for the owner's faith in him
  • Will thank Brendan
  • Will say Brendan is a fantastic/talented/... manager
  • Will mention his team (Buvac and Krawietz)

Honestly don't care. The squad is shit, and who can they really attract?

I agree about their squad but I think there is a case for Klopp being able to fix their awful back 7:

1) His version of the transfer committee can't really be worse at identifying defensive talent than Rodgers was

2) Players in those positions tend to be cheaper than attackers and with Sturridge, Benteke, Coutinho and even Firmino, they don't really need to spend on attackers (though a top winger would help).

3) Clyne is probably already a solid answer at RB, so that's one spot down.

4) Klopp has done well with young players and can maybe develop one or two of Sakho, Gomez, Moreno, Can or Henderson into better players.

5) Klopp might attract Bundesliga talent. Maybe they get someone like Ricardo Rodriguez or Granit Xhaka to fill massive holes as a result.

6) Klopp will be able to raise some funds by happily culling some players Rodgers signed but he doesn't like. Instead of another Lovren year, maybe they get 10M for him from some Prem side and can invest it on a good player.
