Gaming Kingdom Come: Deliverance II | Please Spoiler

Really loving this game. Definitely in my running for game of the year. I've made it to Kuttenberg and I'm still wrapping up all the side quests before progressing the main story. Excellent game, but I accept it wouldn't be for everyone.

Agree its a perhaps a bit too slow paced to gell with people with little time but i think this is best rpg of its kind since TW3. It's very similar just without the fantasy elements.

I've lost way too many hours to this game already. Incredibly immersive.

The combat is a bit grindy, but I don't think you're supposed to face down whole squads head on. You can, however, and you can pretty much turn Henry into a warrior god of sorts, complete with yelling like a banshee at certain intervals. Still a grindy warrior god, though, and the combat style is probably the biggest hiccup for most people coming into the game.

However, in most cases, you could probably go full assassin, or just ignore mobs altogether, so it's not like there aren't options.

Block and then stab when you can. As they have no shield they're susceptible to it. Be patient with the fight though and don't try to win it quickly.
Thank you! I keep blocking and then he seems to somehow get me anyway. I’ll try again

No problem. It's the perfect block you want when the green shield icon pops up.

I think as the game doesn't have a difficulty setting, the way it ups the ante with harder opponents is to punish your mistakes. In the case of Tomcat that appears to be when you make a mistake they do quick combos and you can get destroyed. So it's just a case of being patient, utilising the block and trying to stab when there is an opening.

Mutt is a good dog but by Christ does he get in the way a lot. Remember to tell him to stay if you're ever going into stealth.

Yeah I told him to go home and haven't seen him since. I'll stop by to say hi from time to time.

Probably for the best, I do like to have him handy for combat. I don't think he does much damage but he's good for distracting enemies, especially when up against a crowd.

I feel like I've reached a point with stats where I can handle 4-5 on 1 encounters. Still it is fun having him around.

Finally about to go to the wedding.

Just completed the Gules side quests -

Those last two are fun. First you take on 7 and the next you take on 8.

I'm the first camp battle I started with a crossbow and missed someone but then an achievement popped up telling me I got a headshot so that was lucky. I also managed to only fight a group of 3 and then another 3.

The last one was quite hard and I pulled them all at once. I managed to camp on the ridge and fight one of two at a time but then some bastard with a bow was sniping me and I had to fight and kite 4 or 5 at once.

Kept patient and done it though.

On my way to Kuttenberg...

..after killing that cnut Toth! Feck you.

The story and cinematics are beautiful.

Kinda lost interest at Kuttenberg. Felt like the point in open world games where everything gets really big and open again with a lot of paths and I lose my drive to explore again.

Really well designed city and lots to do though.

100 hours in. Still enjoying but novelty effect worn off by now. Still one of the best rpgs ive played in a long time and a goty contender.

I really like the game but I think the quality dialogue masks that a lot of the side quests are very fetch questy and have you going from A to B and back to A again a lot.

It’s also a game that doesn’t respect your time at all which is hard cause I don’t have a lot of it these days.

Still mostly having a blast though and it’s so unique in a lot of ways.

Bolded is true but at least it's enjoyable in terms of the time spent compared to something like a Ubisoft game which is just eating your time for no reason.

I've done a few sidequests, and can now go to the wedding via the blacksmith's +1. Is there any reason to delay going to the wedding? I have a bunch of sidequests I'd hate to lose access to.

I’ve played almost 50 hours and I’m still in the first area. Just keep finding stuff to do.

After playing Baldurs gate 3 I thought it would be years until I have this much fun with a rpg but this is at the same level

It has made me wonder what is going to happen with Elder Scrolls 6. There’s such a high bar now and I can’t see Bethesda coming close. Think they might end up like BioWare

Henry trying to talk himself out of a fine is wheely funny at times.

So I went to the wedding and numerous hours later I'm still doing on rails main story content. I'm loving the game overall but the post wedding blitz of main story content has completely thrown the pacing off for me. It's overstayed it's welcome for me and starting to remind me of the God of War Ragnarok atreus sections (particularly that forest one).

Part of my annoyance might come from all the rare alchemy ingredients I'd stolen going bad because it's been many days since the game offered me a drying rack

So finished the main story + most of the side quests today. The game tracked me st 153 hours. Best open world rpg I've played in a long time. Pity i finished right when the massive update dropped. Highly recommend 9/10.

Does the massive update mean you have to reset the game?

Is it worth playing the first before buying this? Would I miss anything by skipping to the second?

Also I'm terms of gameplay is there much difference between the two?

I didn't play the 1st but there is definitely a lot of the story from the 1st being referenced to. I didn't feel like I was missing out much. There are probably some good YouTube summaries of story of the 1st.

Considering they recouped the paltry development cost for such a massive game on day 1 of sales, im confident the 3 dlcs they are making will be incredible.

All the stuff after the wedding is a bit much.

Also, dice blows, terrible mini game, I hate how the game tries to force you to play it.

Is it worth playing / necessity to play the first game before jumping into this 2nd one? I'm hearing great things and wanting to play it but conscious I might be missing out on a lot of storyline and character backdrop skipping over the first instalment.

You don't need to but I would. The only danger us that's also a big game and it's way more clunky.

Doesn't sound like a good idea then. As someone that started with Witcher 2 and Mass Effect 2 after hating the mechanics of the first games I don't think you need to play the first. I haven't with this one and I don't feel like I'm missing out at all.

I only would because it's still a really good game despite the clunkiness. I enjoy the story more in that game too.

They're both brilliant but can understand why people prefer the second due to them improving some of the former issues.

I've gotten to the same point and feeling the same way. Taking a break for now until that enthusiasm returns.

I think the issue is there’s loads of open world for 40 hours and then 20 hours of very repetitive quests and then it opens up again so it’s hard to keep enthusiasm. It’s poorly paced.

Re the last few comments: i dont know how old you guys are but as ive gotten older I find myself losing interest in games much quicker, especially if it gets to a point where there is so much that its possibly hard to get back into if you stop for just a little while. I cant stay engrossed by games as much as I used to. Maybe it's the idea that perhaps I should be doing more productive
