Agree its a perhaps a bit too slow paced to gell with people with little time but i think this is best rpg of its kind since TW3. It's very similar just without the fantasy elements.

I've lost way too many hours to this game already. Incredibly immersive.
The combat is a bit grindy, but I don't think you're supposed to face down whole squads head on. You can, however, and you can pretty much turn Henry into a warrior god of sorts, complete with yelling like a banshee at certain intervals. Still a grindy warrior god, though, and the combat style is probably the biggest hiccup for most people coming into the game.
However, in most cases, you could probably go full assassin, or just ignore mobs altogether, so it's not like there aren't options.

Master strike is a must for combat.

Block and then stab when you can. As they have no shield they're susceptible to it. Be patient with the fight though and don't try to win it quickly.I keep getting my arse kicked by that guy.

No problem. It's the perfect block you want when the green shield icon pops up.
I think as the game doesn't have a difficulty setting, the way it ups the ante with harder opponents is to punish your mistakes. In the case of Tomcat that appears to be when you make a mistake they do quick combos and you can get destroyed. So it's just a case of being patient, utilising the block and trying to stab when there is an opening.
