Kim Min-jae | signed for Bayern

Would have been nice to have him but let's be honest, he was never going to be a priority signing. We have bigger issues than CB. And I would happily take Pavard off Bayern's hands for cheap. Seeing reports that he wants to play CB full-time and is looking for a new challenge.

Yeah would rather invest in an unproven CB from the farmer's league than in one of the best CBs of a title winning team.
Yes. Like Koulibaly before him. He will turn out great i am sure. And by the way, when was the first time you heard of min Jae?

Very cheeky of Bayern to just step in and secure the deal, not leaving us enough time to prepare a bid which we can’t have realistically expected to complete before late July.

When did Koulibaly win a title? And when did you hear about your random french CB because I am aware of Kim Min Jae since Spurs were linked with him a couple of times in recent history.

I know we are limited in what we can spend this summer but honestly if I was club brass, I try to gazump this offer last second with a significant improvement on Bayern's offer.

Why? There's a million posts on here bemoaning the willingness at which we were 'bid up' by clubs, players and agents during the Woodward era and yet posters still want us to try and gazump Bayern to sign a player 99.5% of us had never heard of 6-12 months ago.

Move on, there will be 40-50 other CBs around the World on his level or so close it makes no difference. Clearly some are already taken but there are still gems out there to be found for smaller fees and more reasonable salaries

Spurs?

Shame, I thought this guy had bigger ambitions than the easy road with Bayern.

He’s very good, great value with his release clause and I would have loved to have seen him here, but he’s not a Van Dijk level talent we should be crying about too hard about.

Time for our scouts to do their job and find us a younger up and coming CB. Sutalo has been mentioned by quite a few posters who I confess I only really know from FM23 but in these highlights against Chelsea he looks like a potential Rolls Royce for the price of a VW Golf.

That will be why we are not in for him and its all paper talk then. We def don't need a left centre back. I was mistaken obviously and thought we were purchasing a right centre back this term.
I think he would be able to cover both positions and the position we would need cover in based on the injury record of Varane would be RCB.
I wouldn't pay too much attention to it until July anyway as nothing can really happen until then.

To be fair we don’t even need a CB that badly. Varane & Martinez is our first choice pairing, we have Lindelof perfectly capable of covering either and we just need a reliable fourth choice to allow for rotation and injury replacements. Kim will be a starter for Bayern whereas he probably would not be for us.

Given our FFP restrictions it will be a disappointment to miss out on him given his release clause. With Varane being unable to complete a full season we need a CB ready for the first team and that won’t come cheap.

That being said, Bayern have two world class central defenders so I do wonder if Kim Min Jae would be more inclined to go for United if they can match his salary expectations.

Disappointed, makes me question the quality of our/ the negotiations.

We need another top-quality defender, so we move on!

I don’t think there were any reliable ones linking us. Didn’t Romano say we weren’t in talks?
There weren't though Romano hardly has any inside scoop about United and Romano spouts so much BS that sometimes he himself can't keep up with it .

Napoli is not Kmj. Napoli won the title. And Koulibaly was the most wanted CB for years. KMJ is a name that has come up maybe just a year and a half or so. If you really want to fixate on some Napoli players we should buy, fixate on Osimhen and Krava. They are more of the reason Napoli won the title.

Can’t believe we’re missing out on this guy. Fuming! We would have had a solid defence for years with him, Martinez, Varane and Lindelof. For the price aswell he’s a bargain.

No need to engage with delusions like these. There’s this weird trend on here shitting on other leagues, especially the German ones. Personally, I believe it’s because the Premier League has completely sold out all its values and everything it once stood for, and those who cheered on that process now need to believe that it was for something. They want to believe that the success justifies the means. And that only works if the leagues who didn’t do the same are seen as tiny, pathetic leagues without any merit.
Makes it easier to see a club like City cheat it’s way to the treble, to see Chelsea cheat it’s way to the cl and now see Newcastle starting the same shit. It is a necessary process in order to not end up like the Bundesliga or Serie A.
It’s a boring and really sad attempt to justify one’s own passiveness during a time when one’s most cherished cultural good was stolen and stripped down for parts.
we’re at the point where if it isn’t the Prem, players will be criticised for choosing to play literally anywhere else, how can KMJ and Bellingham be getting stick from weirdos for choosing to play for Bayern and Real Madrid

Shaw is capable of stepping in too as Martinez replacement, so that's our four if we look at it like that.

Does feel a little light if we get one or two injuries, but spashing big on a CB would fall into the category of 'Nice to have', as opposed spending our money on CF, GK and CM which are absolute priorities.

Playing in a disgrace of a league with the guaranteed trophy? Germany is 80 million pop powerhouse yet they have 18 teams in the league. WTF? Bayern got the best sponsors and the rest of the league can’t raise money because of the rules. Slave League. A player who actually loves football and challenge wouldn’t chose Bundesliga over EPL.

Think you got the English PL and Bundesliga mixed up there.

Exactly. Normally you’d hope one of your younger players to step up and cover in those situations but I’m not familiar with our youth teams CBs, nor do I believe ETH has any desire to play the youngsters in that particular position, hence probably best if we can sign a player. It’s just I’d probably prefer a cheap stop gap signing to cover for Maguire’s likely departure.

The link was always obvious nonsense. CB is way down the list of priorities for us with limited funds.

I struggle to get all that angry about missing out on a centre back with all the bigger glaring issues with our current squad. But I get the feeling if there's a reason to be furious on here, some will gleefully take it.

To be fair, as soon as Bayern showed interest he was going there. They are a far more attractive prospect at present. Really is a shame though because he'll go on to be the best in the world I think.

Seemed too good to be true that we'd be the only ones in for him and we'd take him for the release clause. Didnt buy it. Hoped, but didnt buy it.

That’s obvious. However he’s still able to agree a deal in principle with any club. Doesn’t have to wait till the 1st to do that.

He obviously meant that not club can Sign him until July the 1st if they want to use the release clause which is true. Utd can still try to sign him until July the 1st if they really want to.

Utter nonsense. He'd start alongside Martinez.
Absolutely not, he never started ahead of Varane in his life. Deschamps preferred to shoehorn him out at RB, which he hates, instead.

I stand by Lindelof being a better CB though

pretty gutted to miss out on this one as I thought he was top class but I was under no illusions that he was pretty far down on the most needed list.

Hopefully we can take this negative and turn it into a positive by buying no defender or a cheaper one and using the saved money to buy the best GK we can find.

Behave. Pavard is not starting ahead of a fit Varane or Martinez.

I honestly don’t see where this sudden hype for pavard has come from. He’s been a decent RB and that’s it. He’s not coming in to become a first choice CB for us. I don’t even want him as a backup option.

Because they didn't have a RB of the required quality. Same with Munich. And yeah it's laughable to suggest that Lindelöf is better than him.

With the way football is regarding commercial interests and global markets etc. i'm surprised this club wasn't interested in Kim, partly because he was the best defender in Italy, but also for marketing reasons. On a side note, i thought we had a pretty huge following in South Korea.
